That doesnt sound good...I'm a nerd so just a question - what virus protection to you have?

Oh my goodness, it's embarrassing but I have no idea anymore. I know that I used to use Norton Anti-Virus, but I believe it's something different now. My dad is a HUGE computer geek and has always taken charge of that stuff in our family. I'm on a laptop and use Windows XP, and it usually has pretty good virus-blocking capabilities. This virus has shut down Windows Updates, which means that my Windows can't get new updates to virus blockers, updated security, etc. Whenever I turn on the automatic updates, this infection just shuts them off again.

And Goofster if you can recommend anything that could help me, I'd be most appreciative!! So far I've used OneCare Protection Scan online and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware software several times each. They've gotten rid of most of the junk that the bug has been producing, but not the bug itself. And I hope that you hear from Disney soon!

I guess my rant for today will be that I'm angry because my computer is infected with a bad virus. It's not really affecting files or anything, but it disarms my firewall/security system so that my computer will be vulnerable to whatever tries to attack. I've been doing countless scans over the last couple of days to try and get rid of it, and am hopefully making some progress.

I have something on my computer called "Spy Sweeper." On my dad's computer, we had accidently downloaded a virus that pretended to be an antivirus scan, and it ruined ALMOST EVERYTHING! But after we downloaded Spy Sweeper, it got rid of the virus. (It was hard for most anti-virus scans to get rid of the virus because the virus that we downloaded pretended to be an anti-virus, and most anti-virus scans would just think that it's one of them) I'm ranting lol....but seriously try getting Spy Sweeper...i hope it helps!

Ouch!! That happened to me a couple of months ago. Currently I'm running my current virus protection 1 time a week to be safe (mc-affee), spy sweeper, and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. I actually had to take it to my schools itech department to fix. Luckily they dont charge for students. Maybe you can take it to your schools ITECH department to see what they can do...

Well I was all set to just give up and take it to the ITECH people on campus tomorrow. Then my roommate let me use a virus scanner that she has, and that got rid of a lot of the infected files. Then I used avast! from the blog that you posted, Goofster, and I believe that the rest of it is gone! I'm going to go ahead and do another Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware full scan as a follow-up, but I believe the virus may be gone! The security system seems updated and stable again, so here's hoping that it's over!

Alright, I know you're having a conversation but I have to rant about something thats KILLING me.

I've been looking forward to doing the fall 2009 CareerStart program for the past year. I'm not ready to go to college! But apparently Disney isn't sure whether or not they're going to have a Fall 2009 program. I applied to a college as a back up plan just in case disney doesn't work out. I got in. I'm not excited about it but I don't want to take a year off and work as a waitress, that doesn't look good on my resume. I was preparing, unwillingly, to go to the college I was accepted in.

HOWEVER, yesterday my dad enlightened me that they weren't expecting me to go to college this year and we don't have enough money to have two kids in college.

I don't want to spend a year of my life depending on a job as a waitress and living off my parents... in the basement.

Besides, my mom told me that my intended major was stupid. I want to be a musical theatre major which is a hard life but I'm willing to do it.

I'm done. Thanks!

you should apply for as much financial aid as you can, and do it early! and even if you get loans(which suck) its better in the long run. i have so many friends who have taken time off from school to make money, but they dont end up going back, or it just takes them too long.

Yes it is difficult, but if it's what you love it will be worth it. My best friend is in her second year as a theatre performance major. She's always busy, but she absolutely loves it! If it's what you want to do, go for it!!

If you do happen to get loans....make sure you get a GOOD one..the one I has SUCK!!!! They give me my money AFTER I had paid out of my pocket for classes and books....but I cant keep teh money because I would have to owe them later....so when they give me the reembursement check....I end up giving it right back to them...and you know what also SUCKS!!! All the scholarships that I applied for (that was financial based) I got turned down for because my parents combined make 6 digits....and apparently...we're too "rich" for financial aid by the government....who is "rich" nowadays??? All the money my parents make are towards gas for 3 cars, bills, groceries, my baby brother's tutoring, and we BARELY have enough left over for miscellaneous...and yet they have the NERVE to tell me "Oh, you're too rich for financial aid!"....sorry for ranting lol.....but i feel better now

yeah, im glad i got some alright loans through fafsa, but even though me and my brother are both in college, and have been for 3 years(and this year at the same one) neither of us got grants! like you said, my parents "make too much"

Lucky you! FAFSA did NOTHING for me...they said that my parents have to put in $21,594 before FAFSA can step in and fund the rest of the way for college....but I'm so glad that once I get that purple folder in the mail...I WOULD BE ON MY OWN!!! Hopefully...once I'm out the house, I would be able to file for Independent...and get some money through FAFSA! Just a thought lol

similar thing happened to me earier this week. my mcafee found a virus during a scan. i freaked out. but the problem was resolved so then i calmed down. i'll do another scan later on today to make sure that the virus really did go away. my sister used to have a laptop that everyone in the house used. somehow it got bugged. she had to take it to a professional to get rid of it.
