The Price is Right

No but I would love to! I have loved it since I was a kid back in the days of Bob Barker:flower3:

No, never been on a game show. But I worked with a guy in the late 90's who was on The Price Is Right and won the Showcase Showdown! He showed me a tape of his appearance- he won a sailboat and vacation to the Caribbean, among other things.

A friend of mine did. He won the showcase showdown, including a Cadillac and a bunch of other things...total cash value around $45K. Took the money and paid off his college loans and toured Europe.

I have been in the audience 9 times. Going is 90% of the fun. My first time was when Bob Barker was still the host. He was okay, I know he was very popular. He just didn't have a love of the contestants as Drew has towards the audience.

I've NEVER been picked. It is because of my job; I try to hide what I do, but they ask questions and I can't lie. I work in entertainment and we are never picked.

It is a long day that starts early. Each person has forms to fill out and then you wait. And then they take your lunch order (about $10 per person) if you want to eat. You are each interviewed by the producer and this is the moment to shine. You want to be active, quick on your answers and just be genuine. They tend to have a set list of "types" they pick: an elderly person, one or two people from a large group, a military person, someone with a funny shirt, a crazy loud person, two people from the mid-west, and then an average mom or dad-type. They pick nine people to contestants row throughout the game.

It is LOUD once the show starts. You can't hear much and with all of the stage hands and cameras, you sometimes can't see the game. They have monitors, so that is why when you watch the show and they cut to the audience, everyone is looking up.

Anyway, Drew really LOVES his guests and takes time between games to talk with the audience and he comes across as really wanting the people to win. I felt with Bob Barker, that he just wanted the whole thing over so he could get back to his golf game. He wasn't very welcoming at all. Drew practices his stand-up during the show.

I would advise going during a "special" show. Mother's Day, Father's Day, July 4th, etc. They tend to give our audience prizes for those shows.

I wish! It's on my bucket list too. My brother dated a girl who was on the show, but apparently she didn't really like to talk about it. I told him it must be because she blew the showcase showdown.
I love to watch the show and think I would actually do fairly well on it, given the chance. I really want to be on a gameshow of any kind: Price is Right, Let's Make a Deal (but I'm terrified of getting Zonked), Wheel of Fortune, anything!

I was on Let's Make A Deal a few years ago but only as an audience member:snooty:

Wait a minute! You can "take the money"?
<looking up the next flight to California!>

Oh I would totally love to be on a game show, with Price is Right on the top of the list! :thumbsup2

My mom was on in 2008 (I was in the audience). She acted like a crazy lunatic ( in a fun way) during the chat with producers beforehand (that's how they pick people- everyone interviews with the producers. They only ask you your name, where you're from, maybe what you do, but they get enough sense). She knew she needed to stand out, and she did. She was in the first group called down.

She made it on stage, but played the clock game and didn't do well. She had actually told me beforehand that that was the one game she didn't want to play, because she doesn't do well under that much pressure. It was pretty funny - she was guessing numbers so fast that they had to stop taping TWICE to get her to repeat herself. Drew said that had never happened.

She won an exercise machine and a guitar. You are no longer allowed to "take the money" for tax/sponsorship reasons. She actually ended up getting money instead of the gym because the company went out of business. She sold the guitar to a friend.

She (and I) had a blast. I was living in LA at the time and 2 weeks later went to the show with some friends, told them how my mom got on and one of them ended up getting on. I guess I'm good luck!

Way back in 1983, a friend and I went on spring break. We were in the audience. We were hoping we'd get picked since we were from SD (Bob's home state). It was a lot of fun! It's probably change a lot since. We got friendly with some of the pages. They gave us lots of tips.

They pick the contestants based on who they think will win. Our show was predicted to be a low winning show since they'd recently taped several big winners. (It was.) They contestants chosen were the ones they thought would not know many of the grocery store prices, or didn't appear to "bright". Every contestant was carefully picked for the "image" they wanted on that patitular show.

We didn't get any food for lunch. We has a break and went over to the Farmers Market next door for food.

Before taping, everyone was told where to sit and they blocked the camera's. The producers stood on stage looking for the contestants. They never looked our way so we knew we weren't chosen. The studio was quite small, only held 300. It was hard to see the actual games due to the cameras, etc. Everything was geared towards the camera's. The audience was merely a prop.

It was fun. But, like I said it was a long time ago and has probably changed since.
