The Pope is coming.....

I'm hoping by Sunday evening either SEPTA will be back to normal operation, or the traffic in Northern Philly won't be bad.

lol, I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to walk my dog with an extra 700,000 people in the neighborhood.
I live in a shore town whose population shoots up overnight. I walk the dogs very early and after dark in the summer.

Heck, I don't even live in the same country, and I knew exactly what the OP meant by her first post. We lived in a city that had a papal visit from Pope John Paul. The security precautions and traffic disruptions were major topics on the news for months. And that was LONG before 9/11. Our family are devout Catholics, but even we wished we could avoid the disruptions.

Love me some Jesuit pope! I’m not Catholic, but I did attend a Jesuit university. Jesuits have always been the bad boys of the Catholic church, therefore I dig them. My very first thought when they elected Francis – here comes trouble! And I just love him for speaking out on so many issues. He is a modern, real world pope!

Relenting on homosexuality being a sin doesn't automatically mean he's the greatest pope ever.

Homosexual activity is still a sin as is all sexual activity outside of marriage if I understand Church teaching correctly. BEING homosexual was never considered a sin, as I understand it in the catechism, and the Church today is quite welcoming to gay people trying to live chaste lives, as well as respecting ALL people as children of God . Bottom line, there's really nothing new in Pope Francis' stance on gay people, imo. If I'm wrong, please school me.

Tiggeroo-didn't you have that crazy guy who threatened you earlier this summer when your Dog peed or something?
How did that turn out?

Well he was asked about it and he said something to the effect of "Who am I to judge a homosexual." Kind of a cop out answer.

Also I don't understand what you're saying. You're saying being homosexual is fine but the act of homosexual sex is not? So as long as a homosexual remains a virgin, then it's all good?

That's what the Catholic Church states (not a Catholic here but I do know that). You can be a homosexual but you only "sin" when you commit homosexual acts.

Not saying I disagree but how is that even possible? Do you know of any homosexuals who are not engaging in homosexual sex? Doesn't compute.

Yes, my crazy neighbor. He was threatening lots of people. He was also sprinkling stuff on the strip of weeds and rocks next to his house. It was not killing weeds or growing grass. Then he put a large bucket of rat poison in front of his house, just inside his property line and left it there all of the time. One day he sprinkled something else all over the property, the grass strip and the sidewalk. Somebody complained and the police were called. They brought in their groundskeeper who confirmed he was sprinkling rat poison everywhere, including where children walk. It is not even permitted all over your land like fertilizer because of the water table. The city sent workers to clean it up and issued him several summons'. He had to go to court and also pay the cost of the city workers. Not sure how that worked out but we almost never saw him after that and he never said another word. But I still don't let my dogs walk anywhere near there. The police called us to talk to us after that new incident. They said he was deceptive with his name and address and some other things.
But the best thing when it's crowded is to time your walks the opposite of crowds. If it's not too hot out walking them mid-day would probably also be good because everybody would be where they are going.

True, that is Catholic doctrine. I'm a lapsed, fallen-away, or perhaps even excommunicated Catholic. I gave it up after college.

There is a tidbit about the Pope's travels I found interesting. He flew from Cuba to Washington DC on the Italian airline Alitalia. But he will be travelling within the US on American Airlines. DH says a foreign airline can't transport people between two US points, not even a pope.
