The Pope is coming.....

I'm going to respectfully request that those of you who think that everyone on the entire planet knows what "get out of dodge" means to take a step back and understand that not everyone knows all of the slang terms/statements in the English language.

Please be respectful toward each other.

Thanks and carry on...

Thank goodness for the ports potties.
Is this in Philly? NYC or DC.

For some reason NYC doesn't' want you to go to the bathroom, they want you to hold it and leave.

Eliza's photos are from Philly. It's been practically 24 hour non-stop Pope news the past few days, and he hasn't even arrived in this area yet.

wow.. ok... I get that people may not be Catholic or even believe in religion... but show some respect. He is a 78 year old man, who is a world leader, as Pope he is also the Head Of State of Vatican City. He has travelled from Italy, to Cuba and now to USA. He is not on vacation , he is working.

Would you show disrespect like that to him if he was not The Pope but just the Head Of State of Vatican City???

I will show the pope the exact same respect that I show every old man walking or driving down the street. No more, no less. My prerogative to not put him or any other world religious or political leader on a pedestal.

He is. BEST POPE EVER!!! (At least in my lifetime).

I think he is doing some good things but there is no way that he is "better" than Pope John Paul II who was Pope for 27 years (1978-2005). Next to Peter, many consider Pope John Paul II the most influential Pope in history (and it's a long history).

What is this last picture??
that's evidently going to be the stage where the papal mass will be conducted on Sunday. I couldn't figure out how it was going to work since right now it seems to be in three pieces.

I'm in Jersey (right outside of philly) and the skies were crazy yesterday with helicopters! What on earth will it be like this weekend?!?

Evidently, from what the Mayor has said, right now the helicopters and a few military jets are doing practice runs. the jets are courtesy of homeland security and secret service.

Good news though is the world meeting of families organization is giving Philly back 12 million bucks toward the cost. Our school systems are in real need of funds so I didn't want the city spending a lot of money bringing this meeting in.

It has given a boost to the economy. while many places are closing this weekend, the convention actually started yesterday, I haven't seen this many nuns since Sister Mary Alice caught my 8th grade class in the girls bath room during the Christmas party with boonesfarm wine.

I am in Philly too and my husband just started mandatory 12+ hour shifts for the next 5 days, or so we thought. He was supposed to be on vacation starting Monday but was just told mandatory shifts were extended to Monday night. I leave for Disney on Monday morning and he was my ride. I have been worried about how early we need to leave for the airport as the ONLY road open is I-95. Now I have to worry about finding a ride at 5 AM. He did promise to get a sheriff's van and take me lights and sirens if he has to do that though. Great way to start off my Disney trip.

I don't get all the road closures and shutting the whole city down though. Pope John Paull II was here in 1979 and there was none of this. I even managed to get a glimpse of him in the motorcade since I worked in the area. Now I am hibernating til Monday and hoping I have no issues getting away.

My daughter's college in Philly cancelled classes on Friday. We're actually bringing her home for the weekend.

It was totally obvious. You seem more than a bit sensitive.

I am heading into NYC on Thursday. I thought I heard that the visit would not impact NYC as much as Philly and DC and I'm hoping that's true. Will be navigating via subway and on foot. Wouldn't even consider driving.

Not sure if you realize..it's not just the Pope in town going to Madison Sq Garden and going through a Sea of people in Central Park, plus the POTUS will be here as well as the UN general assembly is happening with hundreds of other World leaders all converging in NYC At the same time..Security and traffic is at its HIGHEST level since Post 9/11. Driving impossible but the subways will be jam packed as NYers go to method of transport. Good luck, enjoy and wish I was sardined so I could see the Pope in person.

Eliza!-All the nuns- but nowadays their habits are so low keyed
I used to love seeing all the elaborate habits of nuns in the olden days
Some with giant white sailing ship- like hats
My grammar school nuns hat w as shaped like a heart with a bow on bottom

As a Catholic, I have to say yes he is better than JP II. Just because JP II held the position for 27 years, doesn't make him better. So much corruption and cover up occurred under JP II's watch. The church is still trying to dig it's way out of the aftermath of the scandals. Pope Francis is the perfect person to rebuild the Catholic church. I love him!!

Look up the Dominican Sisters of Mary. They are a teaching order out of Michigan. They still wear full habits. Not the "flying nun" type hats, but full habits. We are very fortunate to have 2 of these wonderful women at my kid's school.

Both my kids attended schools taught/run by the Dominican Sisters, although ours were out of Tennessee. Full habits.

Watching NBC coverage now. Gosh Maria Shriver seems to have had a lot of work done, the eyes are uh interesting....

Secret Service is not happy about the Pope's penchant for getting out of the Popemobile and seeing the people along his route. I hear they will be very relieved when his parade around the White House area is finished

not everyone on Dis is American or keeps track of where everyone lives!
Respectfully, I would have handled a foreign slang term on a message board a bit differently. If I had read a statement that was obviously a foreign slang term that I did not understand, my first post afterwards would have asked for clarification of the meaning of the term and then I would have made the decision of whether or not the poster was disparaging the pope. It would not be attacking somebody for what I assumed the term meant. I also would have googled the term to make sure I was reading the post correctly. Googling the term brings up numerous definitions like the one from dictionary.com: "to depart a location."

I am sorry you are getting negative responses.

Love this Pope. He almost makes me want to rejoin the Catholic religion.

Watching the Pope leave for the White House. I know I am showing my age but it seems so wrong to get a very few seconds with the Pope and to spend it taking a photo with your phone. I want to tell those people to put down the phones and experience the moment. He is a very patient man .
