THE PLAN blew up, and we had a BLAST! w Pics

I love trip reports!! Add lots of pics for me!!! (they are what "makes" a good trippie!!)

:lmao: Is DBF a treehugger, then?:rolleyes1

QUOTE]

:hippie: Nah! I'm more of the tree hugger. He wants to be a farmer on our 1.5 acres.

:rotfl: I have to laugh cause we actually own 29 acres of almost all forest AND DH works at a lumbermill. ;) Farming is tough work, I can't get anything but weeds to grow, but they are waist high:scared1:

Great trip report so far! You gotta give us a thorough run down of what you thought of Old Key West! It looks very nice from the above pictures!

I will, I promise. Probably after DTD.

Like the others, I thought "What mistress?!" Then after seeing the newspaper clipping I was like "Of course, I knew this - how could I not put two and two together to make the 'Harley D' connection?!"

 That would be your second "DOH" Homer!

Did you guys go to the Harley store in Downtown Disney? :)

Of course!:thumbsup2 DH must support his mistress whereever we go!

Great trippie so far! Your son is a cool kid and my lil' buddy fo' sho!

Thanks! Any compliment about him is much appreciated.

Old Key West looks sooo pretty!

It is pretty, and very laid back.More on it as we go along, promise!:)

Sounds like your flight went really well aside from the people crowding all the floor space in the airport.
Why do they do that? It was kinda funny though. One family with an obviously Type A dad sat on the floor, and mom proceeded to break out new toys for the kids, while Dad was on his cell phone. Remember, this is 5:40 am! Then Mom realizes that Dad got his boarding pass while at work the previous day and is in Group A, while she and the kids, about 3 & 5 are in Group B. Then, he boards ahead of them! I can't tell you what I would have done had that been married to me, but I sure wouldn't refer to him as DH. Unless the D meant Dead!:lmao:

Thank you for being along for the ride. More pics coming.

:lmao: That's great. I bet he was sleeping on the couch for a few days.

Hi,I saw a little bit about your trip on Ethans trip report, and it caught my curiosity. I can't imagine how scary getting that call must have been for you,and especially for your husband to go through that. How did he hold on anyway? It must have been so painful!
I am looking forward to reading the rest of your trip report, and I hope that your family all had a wonderful time on your trip and that your husbands leg didnt bother him too much.
After reading about the dangers of your husbands mistresss,I will no longer complain about being a football widow! LOL!:lmao:

We can only hope, Lifelong Dreamer. Since I'm Italian, he would have been "sleeping with the fishies", and I don't mean Nemo!:rotfl:

Welcome Heart of Disney! Glad to have you here. Aren't all mistresses dangererous? Actually, it was such a freak accident and he handled it so well, I don't have a problem with him riding again. Much:headache:

I didn't even read yet but I wanted to make sure I was on board ASAP! Looking forward to reading the beginning of your TR tomorrow...

HI DM! Glad to have you. Hope you enjoy my TR as much as I've been enjoying yours.;)

i'm so glad your hubby is ok :thumbsup2
great start ...:surfweb: can't wait to read more ...
~Amanda

Thanks, Amanda we are glad he is ok too!:yay: Thanks for being along for the ride.

I have all of Day 1 written, and most of the pics for that day uploaded. I will post them this afternoon when I get back from meeting DS's teachers and all that fun stuff. See y'all then!:thumbsup2

I'm caught up! Thanks for not posting too much too soon. Wow. You did have me with the mistress thing. I was wondering how you could be so calm and cool with everything when he had a mistress. But I guess that kind of mistress can be just as bad because she's a lean, mean, fighting machine, eh? And she probably never talks back to him or gives him honeydew lists...

Glad to hear that he was basically fine before your trip. I'm hoping that he was fine for your entire trip but I know that broken bones can get hurting at the end of the day, especially in humidity...

Your son is so cute. And it's a good thing you told us that he befriended that boy because it looks like he is giving that boy the, "I hope that you aren't going to pop that gum in my face," look.

Looking forward to more...popcorn::

The more I learned, the more I liked, so I got the ok to get more info. You see, at that point, I knew it was a done deal, but DH didn’t so I went though the explanations and benefits for us, the money thing (Yes, I had started learning about fuzzy Disney math thanks to all of you), and all the possibilities, and we ended up buying 160 pts at Saratoga Springs resort. Of course that opened a new realm of resort choices, so I had more research to do.:surfweb:

Yay :yay: congrats on the purchase!!! I am happily joining in for your report! Oh I wish I could get my husband to see the value in joining DVC. I haven't actually sprung it on him yet. I know his better answer would be let's just move to Florida though! LOL We have looked at jobs out there and talked about it and he knows it is tempting to me to be close to Orlando LOL

March 23, 2007

Hubby went to work at 5AM as usual. A few minutes later the phone rings. It’s DH.

DH: Hey, I ummm, just got hit by a deer!
Me: (Suddenly wide awake) Where are you? Are you ok?
DH: I’m on **** Road. I’m not sure.
Me: Ohmygosh. Do you want me to call 911?
DH: Well, I don’t know. I guess, well, maybe you’d better.

Oh my gosh....I'm so glad your husband was eventually o.k. and you got to go on your trip!

That brought back two similar memories! In February, 2006 we were scheduled to leave for our Disney trip in 4 weeks and my husband had an accident at work. He is a helicopter pilot and was up on the side of the helicopter washing it and slipped off and broke his heel. He ended up in surgery with a plate in his foot. He volunteered to still go on the trip but I knew it was not going to be the same so we decided to postpone it. It was a good thing because he ended up with a bad infection and another surgery.

Then in November, I got the same call as you....yikes! He was on his way to work in rural Arkansas and a deer ran out in front of him! His whole front end was totalled. Thank goodness he was driving a large Dodge truck and he was o.k.

Looking forward to the rest of your trip!

Hi all,
Sorry about the posting delay. I had it all ready to go, then my wireless mouse decided it didn't want to work right. I will get it up right after this.

Subscribing.
I'm curious about how you handled the heat!!

It really was hot! We did a couple things that helped. First, we took it easy and slow. There were a couple times I rushed off for FP's and really felt. Every night, we half filled bottles with water and froze them, then finished filling them in the AM so we always had ice cold water. Definitely worth the extra weight. We also froze a wet washcloth in a plastic bag to wipe off with, and used some of the ice water we had to "refresh" it:goodvibes As I think of other things, I will add them in the TR.

Are you implying that I talk back or give honeydew lists?:rolleyes1 I would never do that! Why waste my time?:lmao:

This is one of those Wait and See comments;)

I know! I love the expression, and didn't realize I had gotten the gum bubble either!

Looking forward to more...popcorn::

Sorry you had to postphone a trip, but it does always seem to work out, doesn't it. Deer are very scary, and very dangerous.

I haven’t even looked at my Photopass pics, so I will probably have to add those pics out of order when I do. On with the Trip!:thumbsup2

After checking in, we wandered around a bit, checked out where our building would be. The CM told us which building, but not which room cause it wasn’t ready, but that was fine. It was building 14, right across from the Hospitality House, which meant DH didn’t have far to limp. Very Good. We checked out the store, where I got my first sticker shock! A six-pack of beer was $11.25! Uh oh! We checked out the pool area, and DS was excited about the slide (which wasn’t open yet.) We looked around the marina, which didn’t have boats running to DTD yet. Bar wasn’t open yet. Wow, never expected to get here this early.

Today’s PLAN was Explore OKW and DTD. Make sure to see Legoland and the Harley Davidson store. (More money for the mistress, you know?) Lunch and Dinner open.

OK, it was about 9:45 am, and we had explored OKW! Time for DTD, but the boat wasn’t running. Over to Bell Services, bus does run there, rearrange and check the carryons, and wait for the bus. OK, that worked.:cool1:

Did I mention that it was Hot? Yeah, totally unexpected. :rolleyes1 I didn’t bother to take a temp reading but it was hot enough to render any deodorant/anti-perspiring liquid/cream/roll on Null and VOID. If a picture is worth a thousand words, wonder what a smell is worth?

Anyway, we took the bus to DTD, where it was very quiet. DS didn’t really notice the fountain until I asked him what was in the holes in the ground.

Then he tried to catch some. That was fun to watch, and a lady sitting at a shaded table got a good giggle watching him.

HPIM0273.jpg

We wandered through Art of Disney, Tails, and World of Pooh, where we took this pic with a friend.

HPIM0275.jpg

Rare picture of yours truly!

We continued wandering til we hit the Pin Traders. Now this was something I had wanted to get into, but I never thought DH and DS would understand. I had pretty much given this idea as too expensive for this trip after the hospital bills, but DH and DS surprised me, and had their lanyards and first trading pins picked out before I could offer a word of encouragement. (Well it was kinda like that anyway). So I got a starter kit too, and we head off to check out. Of course, they have the “If you spend this much, you can get this much for this much more”. The offer at this store was something like “Spend $25 and get a Cast Lanyard Pin for $1 and spend $50 and get a Framed Pin Set for $15. I don’t remember the exact offer (fuzzy Disney math, ya know?), but we ended up spending over $95, and got 3 of the 4 Cast Lanyard Pins that were offered. DH shook his head on the Framed set though. S’ok. I got my first surprise, and I considered it a personal magical moment.

DS was so excited, and he was just dancing by this time. No, he didn’t have to go to the bathroom! He wanted to go build his light saber at Once Upon A Toy! This was the one purchase, well, other than the pins which was only a hope, that I had planned on for the first day. He and DH built this humongeous light saber, and had a blast doing it. (Get it? BLAST?) I swear, it was 6 feet long, and dangerous. But very cool! He also got a Jedi pin, and the fun they had was well worth the $20 bucks. I highly recommend it for any young Jedi’s out there.

HPIM0277.jpg

After that, we walked around some more, took a few pics, and visited Legoland. Now I’m not a huge Lego fan, but the Lego sculptures are really cool. Here are a few of them, and there are many more, including scenes from different countries in the windows. DS, of course, wanted several of the kits, but when I showed him some price tags, he lost some of his enthusiasm. One Star Wars kit was over $200. Ouch!

HPIM0283.jpg

These people have a BAD case of jaundice, don't they?

HPIM0285.jpg

On to lunch! TBC

I think it's wonderful that you were able to go to DTD at such an early hour. I've heard that is one of the better times to go to avoid most of the crowds. I love those candid shots, especially with your son at the fountain!

one year nebo had knee surgery (a limbo injury) right before a trip. 2 years later our 15 year old son broke his foot right before a trip!

a few years back when the youngest was 19 I made the mistake of cosigning for a car. the VERY NEXT DAY!, on the TOLLWAY, no less, a very lost deer wandered across this four lane expressway and right into the front of the car! thankfully no injuries (well,, except the deer), but was mucho bucks to fix the car, even with insurance. it was almost totaled. thank God your hubby was ok.... and he obviously know how to handle his mistress!:rotfl:

We were getting a bit hungry by now, so we decided to eat some lunch at Cap’n Jack’s. We had heard mixed reviews, but the menu looked like it was worth a try. No wait to be seated which DH was glad of. Here is a pic of DH & DS at the table.

HPIM0278.jpg

Nice View!

Note: There were some meals I took good notes on and some I will be doing from memory so the amount of detail will vary. Also some pics of food worked and some didn’t, so I don’t have pics of all our meals.

This was a meal I took notes on, mainly cause I was getting a little sleepy from being awake since 3:30am. DH and I split a Shrimp Cocktail for an appetizer. For the main meal, DH had Grilled Chicken Penne Pasta, DS had a hotdog with salad, apple slices, goldfish, and a fruit cup, and I had a Crab Cake Melt with Napa Cabbage Slaw. The crab cake was pretty good, and the slaw was Delicious. Chicken Pasta was also very good, and DS ate most of his meal except the fruit cup which we had for a snack later in the week.

After lunch, I ran over to the $10 store, and got DS a pressed penny book. I know how much he likes to do the pressed pennies, so we had given him a roll of pennies and quarters to get however many he wanted whenever he wanted. Definitely saved us a lot of hassle and digging for change throughout the week.

Harley-Davidson store was next on DH’s list. While he wandered around, I took these pics of DS.
HPIM0288.jpg

I love the expressions on the kids in the background.

HPIM0289.jpg

DH finally decided on a shirt (after I SUGGESTED what color to buy) and we decided to take the boat back to OKW. The PI stop was right there, so we hopped a boat to MP, then waited for the boat to OKW. That is a really nice ride up the river, and was very relaxing.

HPIM0292.jpg

DH & DS waiting for the boat.

I’m not sure, but I think DH and I had a beer at the Gurgling Suitcase, while Michael explored the arcade. I know that I went to the concierge and had DS and my MYW tickets added to our Key to the World card. Both DS and I had 1 day left on our tickets from our previous trip so we used those first. I didn’t think much of it at the time, but our cards were about $20 more than I had expected. Come to find out when we got home that the ticket price increased THAT DAY! Bummer!

Our room was ready about 4:30. We were in room 1426, on the second floor, rear corner of the building. Our suitcases arrived about ½ hour after we did, so we unpacked, while deciding what to do for dinner.

To Be Continued:goodvibes

We were all pretty tired by this time, so we decided to have dinner at Olivia’s, then go for a swim. Olivia’s was really nice, relaxed and laid back. We again had no wait, and a very good server. I decided to try a Sultry Seahorse for my drink, and it was very refreshing. We ordered onion rings with dips for an appetizer, and they were good. The dips were very different, but I forgot to write down what they were. DH had a Caribbean Barbecue Grouper with mango glaze, chimichurri and mashed sweet potatoes,

HPIM0297.jpg

DS had the Mickey Pasta,

HPIM0298.jpg

and I had the special, a chicken potpie dish, with a biscuit on top instead of a crust.

HPIM0299.jpg

All were very good, actually better than we had expected. Very enjoyable meal.:goodvibes

One thing I forgot to mention is that we had gotten a DDE card for DH, and it worked very well for us, especially since we ended up relaxing a lot at the bar. The 20% off alcohol probably paid for 1/3 of the $65 card cost, and the card did pay for itself by the end of the week.

After dinner, we headed for the pool. The water was very warm, and DH said it made his leg hurt. Go figure! I would have thought the opposite. DS started playing “Keep Away” with two young men (17-18). We got the biggest kick out of that cause we knew the guys were using him to get the life guards attention. It worked, she started talking to them, they forgot about playing with DS, and DS didn’t have a clue. Very funny!:rotfl:

We headed for our room to relax, and have an early night. MK at opening in the morning!:yay:

As promised, notes on OKW.

This is a very nice resort. We had a large studio room with 2 queen sized beds, a kitchenette, a table with only 2 chairs, a nice sized bathroom, and a balcony with 2 chairs and a small table. DH and I sat out there the first night, but the bugs were awful. We didn’t have much of a view, it was very jungle like, and muggy. We had some traffic noise, but it wasn’t bad. We had plenty of room for the 3 of us. We pretty much stayed in the main area of the resort itself. DS enjoyed the Community Hall, and main pool, while DH and I were contented in the bar. I felt comfortable letting DS stay in these areas on his own, and he was very good about letting us know where he would be. He made lots of friends, and we didn’t see much of him the times we hung out here. The bar, Gurgling Suitcase, is very small with a couple of high tables in front of the bar, and a small counter to the side. One bartender took care of this area, walkups from outside, and Olivia’s so they got very busy at times. I would like to see this area enlarged as it wasn’t the most relaxing bar we’ve ever been in. The transportation by bus and boat was very good. We usually didn’t have to wait long for a bus anywhere, maybe 15 minutes tops! We found if we sat on the boardwalk, and watched a bus come over the bridge, we had plenty of time to make it to the bus stop at the front of the building, even when DH was moving his slowest. Any questions, please ask, and I’ll try to answer.

HPIM0300.jpg

Great report! :thumbsup2 I loved your cliff hanger at the start :rotfl2: So how was Harley after the run in with the deer? Did she make out better than your poor DH? I'm loving the pictures... I think my favourite so far is your son with lego-boy :)

I tried to resize the pictures but it wouldn't take. I will try again in a while. Sorry.
