The Pirates and the Frog (7/17 Welcome to the Next Adventure!)

thanks for incredible story :) write more

Welcome to the DIS!
And don't worry - plenty of adventures still to come!

Awww Ariel is my favorite too :goodvibes I'm sorry to hear their flight was delayed!

We are just finishing getting ready and will be headed to the airport soon and thank you we will :)

I'm soooo jealous!
I just heard that the gals are on the bus to the Magic Kingdom as I write this.
And I know you gals will be joining them shortly.
Say 'hi' to the Magic Kingdom for me!
And don't forget to take pics together this time!! :goodvibes

Great pix of Akershus !!! I have never eaten there but the breakfast menu looks yummy!!Is it buffet or Family style !!!

Actually it's both!
They bring you a family-style portion of eggs, bacon, sausage, and potatoes.
And, yes, you can order more if you run out.
Then there's the "cold buffet" of pastries, cheese, fruit, bagels & lox, and other assorted goodies.

We headed out of brunch around 11:00 just as the World Showcase was opening.
And what better way to wash down a great meal than a Maelstrom of course!
Disney2009Pirates1205.jpg

Now I don’t think I’ve ever gotten wet on this before but we love it nevertheless.
Disney2009Pirates1206.jpg

And this was an occasion as it was both DS and DD's 1st trip to Troll Country.
I explained to them a bit about the ride and how much fun we were going to have.
They weren't too sure but trusted dear ol' dad.
We headed in and walked down the narrow passageways.
I had forgotten how empty this queue is.
Other than this, you would never know where you were…
Disney2009Pirates1207.jpg

And I even pointed out to the kids one of my very favorite Hidden Mickeys.
Look, ma! The original Viking Mickey Ears!
Disney2009Pirates1208.jpg

So we boarded our vessel and prepared to head out to a Norwegian High Seas Adventure!
And then the nerves got the best of the wee ones (I had warned them that there is a drop on this ride).
Brave Vikings they are not…
Disney2009Pirates1210.jpg

We had the front row and a great view of the ride.
And sure enough, after a visit to Troll Country, past the Polar Ice Caps, and down a waterfall past the oil refineries, we arrived safely back in Norway.
And the kids were all smiles.
Disney2009Pirates1211.jpg

Leaving our boat behind, we decided to explore the little fishing town as the exit doors were still closed.
Disney2009Pirates1209.jpg

The detail in here is great. I actually like getting a chance to explore before running through the movie.
Disney2009Pirates1213.jpg

Disney2009Pirates1212.jpg

Disney2009Pirates1215.jpg

According to Google Translator, written on the life preservers is “Westerlies Group”.”
I guess bad westerlies can make a Maelstrom, right? :goodvibes
Disney2009Pirates1216.jpg

We also discovered something new.
If you sit down on the bench by the window in the village, listen carefully.
You can hear the women discussing the day’s events and waiting for the men to come home from a day of fishing.
And, yes, it’s all in Norwegian.
Just another Disney touch of magic.

The doors opened and we walked straight through past the movie to the exit.
We found Mom and X waiting for us by the stroller and headed off into the World Showcase.
But before we left the Kingdom of Norway, we had to snap a picture of our brave new Viking:

Disney2009Pirates1218.jpg

Now don’t take a siesta, next up it’s time for a fiesta!

You too walk right thru the movie !!I watched once , no more:rotfl2:I love Maelstrom and the little drop. which for me is as riskay as I get !!!:rotfl2:
Thanks for the info on the Family style and buffet!! Sounds great!!!

I saw the movie once a long time ago but I don't even remember it anymore.
One of these days, we'll give it a shot along with Reflections of China and Impressions de France.
But for now, the kids are too young to really sit through those.
Something to look forward to when they are older I guess! :goodvibes

From the Vikings in the North, we headed South.
We had a concert to catch – our favorite feathered friends were in town!
Disney2009Pirates1222.jpg

We ran right over the riverside to get good seats!
Disney2009Pirates1221a.jpg

Front row baby!
Disney2009Pirates1223.jpg

Included with our show was a guided boat tour of Mexico.
How romantic!
And look, Donald Duck was on tour as well!
Disney2009Pirates1225a.jpg

Around the corner, he wasn’t doing as well though.
Watch out Donald!
Disney2009Pirates1227.jpg

But the streets were alive with children dancing and singing!
What a wonderful sight!
Disney2009Pirates1228.jpg

Then, it was showtime.
So we headed straight to the amphitheater and got ready.
Stay tuned – the show is about to start…

And now, without further adieu, clipped from a live video recording of the greatest international bird band of all time – The Three Caballeros!
Enjoy! (and I dare you to watch the next set of pictures without at least humming “Three Caballeros to yourself”!)

Disney2009Pirates1229i.jpg

Oh look, a flower!
Disney2009Pirates1229j.jpg

Surprise Donald!

Together Again!
Disney2009Pirates1229q.jpg

Disney2009Pirates1229s.jpg

Donald then escapes…
Disney2009Pirates1229t.jpg

And gets revenge!
Disney2009Pirates1229u.jpg

But when he attempts to go solo…
Disney2009Pirates1229v.jpg

The band gets back together!
Disney2009Pirates1229w.jpg

Adios Muchachos!
Come again soon!
Disney2009Pirates1230.jpg

But before you go, let's visit the marketplace together!

We love that ride.
I think they did a great job with the update and the kids can really get into it now.
And, of course, we own the Three Caballeros/Saludos Amigos DVD 2-Pack to watch before our trips to familiarize the kids with the characters.
And the Mexico pavilion in general is just a lot of fun – it’s cut off from everything else and feels like you are right in the heart of a bustling marketplace.
When in Rome (or in this case, Mexico)…
Presenting our tribute to the Three Caballeros.
One Caballero

Two Caballero
Disney2009Pirates1232.jpg

Three Caballero! :)
Disney2009Pirates1233.jpg

After wandering the streets of the market, we checked out the brand new Cava del Tequila
Disney2009Pirates1234.jpg

While we didn’t sample in the local traditions, X almost dove right in…
Disney2009Pirates1235.jpg

Apparently we were reaching our limits.
So we headed back outside and into the daytime – such an odd transition.
Night inside, Daytime outside. Very weird.

Across the way, I found this picture and thought it looked very interesting.
Disney2009Pirates1236.jpg

And with that, we headed back to FutureWorld.
Guesses on the destination?

Nice updates! We always walk past the movie too. I think the countries are in dire need of newer films.

I love the pics of the kids in the sombreros! Such cuties!

X in the sombrero was pretty funny.
We just need to digitally remove Mom's hand holding it on! :goodvibes

Hey there!
Sorry I've been out of touch.
With soccer season finishing up and the scouts going camping, the Capells have been very busy.
But no excuses! On with the show!

After emerging from the Aztec pyramid, we headed back into FutureWorld.
Boy these traffic signs are confusing…
Disney2009Pirates1237.jpg

But it led us straight to the International Space Training Center.
Remember, while DS and I visited here this morning, Princess and X were new to this facility.
Disney2009Pirates1238.jpg

DS and I headed off for another mission while Mom took the kids to the Space Base.
Disney2009Pirates1160.jpg

X wasted no time exploring the facility.
He ran in and began the launch sequence.
Disney2009Pirates1240.jpg

Does Mars make me look fat?
Disney2009Pirates1241.jpg

But as you can see, they had a blast.
In fact, it was really tough to get them to leave.
When DS returned, he invented a game and got the Capells as well as several other children to play.
Throughout the game, X was being adorable climbing through the hamster tunnels trying to keep up with his older siblings.
So I apologize now but I went a bit trigger happy…
Disney2009Pirates1242-1.jpg

Disney2009Pirates1250.jpg

Disney2009Pirates1252.jpg

Disney2009Pirates1253.jpg

Finally!
Guess who got tuckered out.
Too bad he was faking and was back in the tubes seconds after this shot.
Disney2009Pirates1254.jpg

So while the kids continued to play, Mom and I snuck away to the Mission: Space Race.
Disney2009Pirates1255.jpg

It’s a cute little game although extremely frustrating depending on who is on your team.
One group flips switches in order to generate a colored ship piece which then gets sent to the game board.
Another group has to take that piece and place it into the broken piece of the ship.
The faster the ship is fixed, the faster it goes.
And there are two teams racing their way back from Mars.
Yes, this is how Disney explains how you get back from the edge of the crevice that the ride leaves you on.
So, Mom and I flew through our mission only to watch our group up front fumble and drop all the pieces we provided.
And we lost.
But that’s ok, we have our own astronauts to lead us home!
Disney2009Pirates1256.jpg

Mission:Space Cargo Bay is actually a fun gift shop.
Lots of Disney space-themed merchandise lines the walls including an entire Star Wars and Star Tours section as well as a Wall-E section.
And then, of course, my favorite gift shop statue…
Disney2009Pirates1257.jpg

Followed by one of my favorite gift shop murals…
Disney2009Pirates1258.jpg

Alas, our mission had ended.
Disney2009Pirates1259.jpg

And we needed some grub before embarking on some more adventures.
Where, oh where, in the great park that is Epcot could we find a decent meal?
Ah, the choices, the choices.
Any guesses?

Great pictures :) The kids look like they were having so much fun playing. Up until May I never even realized that area existed :confused3 Dale and Caitlin would ride MS and I would always wait outside in the heat. I was soooo glad I discovered this because the wait was so much cooler

I didn't pick up any clues where you're going for dinner so I'll just have to wait and find out :)

Awesome update! I will definitely be heading there in June. I'm pretty sure I won't be able to get the kids to leave, though. Oh well, we'll just have to live at EPCOT!

Oops - I don't think I left any clues!! Ah well. :confused3
And the Advanced Training Lab is a great place to escape the heat.
Did you play the Space Race when you were there?
Oh, and Auf Wiedersehen!

Yeah, they need incentive.
Mine were mad I interrupted their "game."
But we had people to be, places to see, and, more importantly, an ADR.
So I promised good desserts. ;)

No I didn't try the games since I get stuck holding everyone's stuff :rolleyes1

And now I know where you're headed
