The Pirates and the Frog (7/17 Welcome to the Next Adventure!)

To close out our Princess' Birthday Week, we needed an appropriate movie of course.
So, we went with the easy answer - one of her birthday presents.
Which of course was:

:tinker: Tinker Bell and the Great Fairy Rescue :tink:
We've actually been enjoying the Tink movies as they are all very cute and keep you entertained - even the boys.
This one was the first to involve humans and explored summer.
Each of the previous movies were tied to seasons as well with spring and fall being covered thus far.
But the interaction with humans was interesting.
Tink could be understood when talking to other fairies but sounded like jingling bells to humans.
So he had to "act out" all of her conversations with the humans.

Also, there are several ties back to the original Peter Pan in this edition.
There is some backstory to teaching humans how to fly with pixie dust.
There are also several nods to the "Second Star to the Right" and the Big Ben sequence when the kids fly out of London.
My favorite homage was a scene where we are flying through the clouds and as they part, the camera pans down.
There, on screen, is the London scene straight from Peter Pan's Flight!

All in all a fun movie as we see all of Tink's friends.
This movie also centers alot more on Vidia - the new recruit to Pixie Hollow in Toontown.
Also very enticing was the preview of the winter-themed movie coming soon.
Besides venturing into a Winter Wonderland, the movie will showcase yet another new fairy friend of Tink...
Our little princess is already counting down the days until her next birthday.
It's actually really nice that these movies coincide with that as it gives her something to really look forward to every year. :goodvibes

I am glad you all enjoyed the new Tink movie!

I actually watched it last weekend on the way back from a mock trial tournament because one of my guy friends kept asking me questions about Tinkerbell

I also thought it was really good and I can't wait until the make the movie where she meets Peter Pan!

I hadn't heard if they were going to make an introduction to Peter Pan movie.
I thought these were all just movies prior to that time period with Tink and all of her friends.
But that would be really cool!

By now, me crew was ready to let loose and go pillaging.
So we headed across the street and found a local cinema.
However, inside was no movie but an adventure!
Aye matey – an adventure be what me crew was craving!
Disney2009Pirates320.jpg

Upon entering this area, weird magics again began to play tricks on me crew.
For the second time today, we felt ourselves shrinking.
However, this time rather than stop at the size of a toy, we ended up the size of a crumb.
Little X could not believe what simple blades of grass looked like from this height.
Disney2009Pirates323-1.jpg

In addition, water was streaming down the side of the grass much like a waterfall.
In reality, it was probably just a drop or so but to our size it was an endless supply.
X was fascinated and stayed here for some time gliding his hand back and forth.
Disney2009Pirates324.jpg

When X finally left the blade, he stumbled across a hollow twig which he decided would make a dandy slide.
Here I was – ready to pillage and plunder – and me crew decides to make a playground…
Disney2009Pirates321.jpg

Disney2009Pirates322.jpg

Continuing that theme, they discovered a series of stumps.
But as with the rest of this vile place, these were magical as well.
Disney2009Pirates326-1.jpg

For, when you stepped on one of them, a musical note sounded.
And each stump triggered a different musical note.
Strange Tides indeed.
Disney2009Pirates326.jpg

Speaking of the tide, our next venture headed us straight for some.
Over yonder next to a can of Play Doh, were there mysterious circles on the ground.
Stepping on them activated additional magic as water shot out and drenched the pirate who triggered the trap.
Disney2009Pirates327a.jpg

You can see from these portraits that X took the brunt of this attack for the rest of us.
He spent a long while racing to and fro across the circles and drenching himself in the process.
Disney2009Pirates328.jpg

X then caught side of his elder crewmates.
They had found a canister of some sort stuck in between some blades of grass.
Stretching from the cylinder to the ground, a smooth substance extended outward.
The First Mate and the Pirate Princess were stationed on top of the substance peering out of the canister as if on lookout.
Disney2009Pirates330-1.jpg

However, that was not their plan.
The First Mate had figured out that he could use the smooth surface to propel himself downward.
And he proceeded to do so over and over again with glee.
Disney2009Pirates330-2.jpg

The Pirate Princess would not be left out as she joined him in the merriment.
It seems me crew had abandoned ship and was content to enjoy themselves despite our predicament!
Disney2009Pirates330-4.jpg

Well, when X saw his elder mates having so much fun, you can only imagine what he did next.
He came running at full tilt and climbed into the canister ready to launch himself!
Disney2009Pirates330-5.jpg

The crew had a grand time here – despite almost being eaten by a giant-size (at least giant-size to us) ant that attacked us near the exit.
I would’ve taken a picture but I was busy defending me crew and helping them to safety.
I am the captain after all…

We exited tired, wet, and hungry.
Time to pillage another galley says I.
Luckily, as we began to dry, we also began to grow.
Soon we were back to our normal sizes and ready to eat.
But first, the maiden and I wanted one last shot of our own on the Streets of America.
Disney2009PiratesPass170.jpg

We then headed to the latrine to change into dry clothes and were off for our afternoon rendezvous with Lady and the Tramp.
Pull up a chair, grab a bottle a rum, and share some grub with us me hearties!

And what better way to celebrate the Haunted Holiday than with Disney's ultimate Halloween Tale:

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas

As you can probably tell by my icon, I love this movie.
This and the Black Cauldron probably rate as two of my favorite Disney movies.
Jack is just so much fun and the monsters are just so great.
There are so many little details and great gags all along the way.
And the stop motion just makes it stand out by itself among other films.

I remember back in 1993 when I visited Disney World,
the exhibit at the end of the Backlot Tour was the Nightmare Before Christmas.
I was able to see the actual sets from the movie and how small they really were.
It was awesome!!
One display even included all of the different heads that were used to have Jack sing "What's This?"
Those exhibits are one of the things I miss most about the Backlot Tour.

So obviously, I got my kids into this great annual tradition.
It started a couple of years ago when I took my eldest to see the movie when it was re-released in 3-D.
And we haven't missed it since.
Unfortunately they stopped re-releasing it in theatres (other than the El Capitan in California).
But we still make time to see it on DVD every year.

TRIVIA TIME!
1) We all know Tim Burton is very creepy as can be seen in this movie.
But when he worked for Disney, anyone know what other creepy movie he worked on?

2) Danny Elfman wrote the score and sung the songs as Jack Skellington.
But does anyone know what band he was the leader singer of before he began composing?
And what was their familiar hit?

3) Park Trivia
What voice actor from Star Tours lent his/her voice to one of the minor characters in the movie?
Does anyone know what actor lent his/her voice to one of the minor

Get those brains thinking and no cheating!!

Was it Edward Scissorhands or Batman? both were pretty creepy and imho crapy.

Being a teen in the 80's I knew this one right away. Oingo Boingo and for the hit it had to be Dead Man's Party or Weird Science.

Ah, no clue.

I've gotten pretty behind on your TR. But I love your most recent update. You photographed that playground so well that I want to go play on it. It looks so freakin' cool. And the kids - cuter than ever, especially X with his water fun.

#2 is correct (I was thinking of Weird Science) but we still need correct answers for #1 and #3 - anyone else?

Glad you caught up!
And even more glad you're enjoying the TR.
There's actually a lot more in the playground I didn't get a chance to photograph.
My guys tended to stick to the slides and water fun.
And keeping track of three of them in there is quite a workout! :goodvibes

First thing that came to mind was Beetlejuice. Definitely a Tim Burton movie. (And now that I check IMDB, I see it's not Disney. Hrmf!)

3) Park Trivia

Anthony Daniels, perchance? He always seems willing to do just about anything. :happytv:

Well, also being an 80's child, I LOVED Oingo Boingo, and would have gotten it immediately. Had I seen the post. Ha! But not a clue for #1 or #3. I'll have to wait for others to chime in...

Anthony Daniels is not a bad guess (not the right guess but not necessarily a bad one...) :lmao:

Wow - I stumped the DIS crew with two out of three questions? :confused3
Oh well - I'll try another post and give you a bit more time before I reveal the answers...

Such is the tagline for the galley we found...
Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano
Disney2009Pirates332.jpg

Disney2009Pirates333.jpg

Seemed like a nice place although we had never been to this establishment before.
Good thing – now they won’t recognize us when we plunder all the grub we can!
The lobby was full of portraits devoted to pirates past that have plundered these parts before.
Disney2009Pirates344.jpg

The Pirate Princess was instead drawn to the artistic statues that decorated the landscape.
Grapes hung from a trellis and definitely invited us into the realm of the Italian Pirate Lords.
Disney2009Pirates343.jpg

Lady and the Tramp were waiting for us as we arrived and we were ushered in.
It seemed like the night sky twinkled with lights even though it was only 12:10 as we walked through the galley to our table.
Disney2009Pirates334.jpg

We ordered and soon after the feasting began.
These Italian Pirate Lords sure know how to eat.
The crew went with the cheese flatbreads along with strawberry yogurt, fruit, and pomegranate lemonade.
Disney2009Pirates337.jpg

Disney2009Pirates335.jpg

I had Mama’s Antipasto for Two consisting of a selection of meats, cheeses, and marinated vegetables.
While the menu clearly stated it was for two, the waitress told us we could each order one.
So The Tramp followed my lead and had one as well.
The plate consisted of asparagus, cheeses, and pepperoni and salami.
I followed that up with the Pepperoni Flatbread and chocolate cake for dessert.
The Fair Maiden opted for a garden salad followed by the Shrimp Pipette.
The Tramp also chose the Shrimp Pipette while Lady opted for a garden salad and the Chicken alla Parmigiana.

For dessert, the kids had sundaes, I went with chocolate cake, and Mom had the spumoni.
Lady and the Tramp went with cheesecake and were treated to an candle for their anniversary.
After all, the Tramp only mentioned their anniversary to the waitress 5 or 6 times.
Disney2009Pirates338.jpg

Disney2009Pirates339a.jpg

Stuffed beyond belief, we waddled out of the restaurant.
Have I mentioned that those Italian Pirate Lords know how to eat?
On the way out I saw this lantern adorned with utensils.
Disney2009Pirates342a.jpg

But wow – what a meal.
By far the best Italian food we’ve ever tasted on property.
Although now we hear tales of a new galley called Via Napoli that we must partake in.
And we’ve never made it to Tony’s Town Square yet either.

Outside, the weather seemed to change as the Pirate Princess literally stumbled into a snowman…
Disney2009Pirates345.jpg

We realized this must be some additional sorcery and continued on.
Once again, we crossed into the territory of Kermit and his Muppet Crew.
Disney2009Pirates349.jpg

Not wanting to tangle with that lot again (they are crazy after all!), we hastened through.
We had another destination in mind.
One far, far away…

Nice update :)

So glad you enjoyed your meal at Mama M's. While it's not one of my favorites, we have eaten there several times because Caitlin loves their seafood pasta.

I love the pic of the Mona Lisa :)

Well, we're definitely gonna compare it against Via Napoli and Tony's in January - so we'll seen who wins out in the end! :goodvibes

3) Park Trivia

Okay, so here are the answers...

1) The Black Cauldron (one of my favorites!!)

2) You guys got this one - Oingo Boingo is the band and "Weird Science" was the song I had in mind.

3) I thought this one was easy.
Paul Ruebens (a.k.a Pee-Wee Herman) voiced beloved rookie pilot Rex in Star Tours.
But he also was the voice of Lock - one of the infamous trick-or-treaters Lock, Shock, and Barrel.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled Pirate Takeover of Walt Disney World...

Slipping by the crew of the Swine Trek, we headed around a corner.
Past a desert supply shop and through a jungle before stopping in our tracks.
There it stood.
A metal Kraken towered above us directly in our path but luckily it was faced the other direction.
Off to the side was a strange vehicle and we quickly hopped on in an attempt to keelhaul out of here!
Disney2009PiratesPass177a.jpg

Meanwhile, our Fair Maiden parked little X over with Tramp who needed a break.
Luckily X was already asleep.
Disney2009PiratesPass234.jpg

Disney2009PiratesPass239.jpg

It turned out those mechanical speeders weren’t so fast after all and we needed better transport to evade the huge monstronsity looming above us.
It just so happened that, tucked away inside the jungle was a company which specialized in escapes to “other worlds.”
So we clamored into the facility and hoped for some Fair Winds!
At this point we slowed to inspect our surroundings – a pirate must always keep a lookout you see.
And my did we see some strange things.
Some creature was running the facility which almost seemed like some sort of dock.
Disney2009Pirates351a.jpg

Except the ships here were like none I’ve ever seen before.
They had motors and no sails and did not look like they could float at all.
Off to the side, a golden mechanical man was working on the machinery of the new fangled ship.
Disney2009Pirates352a.jpg

His counterpart, another mechanical creation was already aboard the vessel and also working feverishly as they were trying to prep for launch.
Disney2009Pirates353a.jpg

I’m not sure I liked the look of this place.
But me and me crew ventured on to the next chamber where scrap metal littered the floors and more mechanical beings were hard at work.
What manner of facility have we found? There must be sorcery at work all around here!
And then, we even caught sight of an homage to that Muppet Crew.
That amphibian Captain is everywhere!
Disney2009Pirates354a.jpg

We were ushered to the boarding area and then a magical screen illuminated with instructions.
Disney2009Pirates355.jpg

Not to sure what to think but ready for adventure, me crew boarded the ship and prepped for launch.
Belts were provided to insure our safety which made us all the more cautious as to what we were in for.
Nevertheless, me crew was all smiles!
Disney2009Pirates356-0.jpg

Disney2009Pirates356-1a.jpg

We settled back for a new adventure and then, all of a sudden, the wall in front of us disappeared.
Another metallic creature began talking to us – he was clearly the Captain of this vessel.
He introduced himself as Rex – a newly promoted seaman – as we prepared to disembark.
And then we began to move through the docks towards open sea.
However, it wasn’t sea we were moving towards.
Shiver Me Timbers – we were in outer space!?!?!
What voodoo magic do these machines possess?
Me hearties and I grabbed on as the vessel tossed and turned along its path.
I honestly don’t think Captain Rex had any clue what he was doing.
We flew into large rock formations made up of ice, crashing this way and that.
And then vessels armed with canons of laser light began attacking from all sides.
Oh how I wished we were back in the seas with a rusty cutlass in my grip.
Finally we spun around (I must say this vessel maneuvered better than mine), and entered a long trench.
Once again, blasts of light flew all around us. I didn’t want to know what happened if one of them found its mark.
At the end of the trench, the Cap’n dropped a torpedo into a hole and apparently started a chain reaction.
We hoisted the sails and fled the scene just as a monstrous orb exploded into billions of pieces.
Our Cap’n seemed satisfied as he headed for home and we once again docked.
In the process, we almost destroyed the dock and our vessel.
Me crew scampered out of the vessel and were happy to be back on the ground.
The port was bustling and no one seemed to mind that these ships were destined for space and not the sea.
In fact, overhead were directions to pick up luggage and any metallic creatures you may have left behind.
Apparently these creatures are referred to as droids…
Disney2009Pirates357a.jpg

Beyond the gates, we entered a trading post known as Tattoine Traders.
We know this establishment well and have taken many a portrait here.
In fact, compare how the crew has grown with a shot of the First Mate from 2006 as well as now:
StarTours06Tatooine.jpg

Disney2009Pirates358.jpg

And don’t forget the Pirate Princess…
Disney2009Pirates359.jpg

Happy to be back at port, the entire crew posed under the jungle canopy
Disney2009Pirates360.jpg

Then we headed back to where The Tramp was waiting with little X – who was still asleep.
Disney2009Pirates361-1.jpg

Disney2009Pirates361-2.jpg

But since the sun had dropped a bit over the horizon, we wanted a new set of portraits on those speeder bikes.
After all, I may be a dread Pirate Captain, but I am merely a kid at heart!
Disney2009PiratesPass189a.jpg

Disney2009PiratesPass193a.jpg

Disney2009PiratesPass203.jpg

Alas, the gigantic metallic Kraken was still on guard.
We would have to make a break for it.
Stay tuned as we make our move!

I love how you're all in Star Wars tees for your visit to Star Tours! :thumbsup2 Fun update :)
