i read before on this board there is a party or something for dvc members on the 7 night cruises.
is it worth going to?
is it something to try to get you to buy more points?

Of course they want to buy more points. But it also is kinda fun. My DS 8 loves the "party". Basically, they give you some free stuff- we have gotten hats, mousepads, luggage tags, lanyards. Then they draw names out of a hat, ask a trivia question (they are easy and they help you with the hard questions) and you win more prizes. Last cruise DS won a really neat beachtowel that you can only get there at the party (oh, and probably on eBay too). They had photo albums, tote bags, water bottles and lots of neat stuff. They also had coffee and danishes. It was about an hour or so.

I think it is on the 4 day, but the 2 I've been to are on the 7 day.

I was on the 4 night in March, and yes they had it on Monday (Nassau day) and it was in the morning and over before the ship started to disembark.

They gave us red DVC baseball hats and all through the cruise if they spot you wearing the hat they gave you a DVC pin. My kids had such fun with that! We also won a mesh backpack that came in handy at the pool.

Basically, they had coffee and tea and I believe some pastries and they gave an update and then played a trivia game and gave out prizes.

I talked with the guides later in the cruise and they said they don't do the reception on the 3 night, only on the 4 night because they hadn't gotten a good turn out when they tried it on the 3 night.

Hard to believe the poor turnout rational on the 3 day. Cruise thread has been vocal w/DVC members wishing they'd offer it.

BTW, the guides were scarce during our 3 day early last Dec. Only saw them once set up @ table outside kids club.

I was just on a 3 day on May 18th and there was a DVC party - we played a trivia game and there were prizes along with lanyards and hats when you showed up to the meeting. It was a nice gathering of DVC members.
Oh, and there were magnets on the doors of the members to show that they recognized you being a member. It was a fun way to meet other members and share a little about what you liked about DVC.

We're members, but we're not using points. Will we get an invitation?

You won't get an invote if you don't book your cruise through DVC. But just stop by the DVC desk on the first night, tell the CM that you're a member and ask about the reception, they will take your name and send you an invitation. The reception was also listed in the Navigator on my last three cruises, so by the third cruise, we just showed up, and didn't stop by the DVC desk first.
