Laruabearz posted that an optical mouse had really helped her score in fireworks. So I decided to get one. Turns out the spare I have for the company laptop is an optical so I now have it on my home computer. No it is not compamy property as I purchased it so I would not have to continually take my mouse off my docking station.

Ok, back to the story.

I plugged in the mouse last night and all I can say is I am having a terrible time controlling it. I had only used the mouse occassionaly before last night.

My question is how to you keep if from going all over the place. I move my hand it's like on the other side of the screen before I can blink.

Am I going to need to go back and start playing card games to learn how to control this wild mouse?

Try this mouse. Go to: start, settings, control panel. Double click on the mouse icon, click on the pointer options tab and adjust the slider to a slower speed. Hope this helps.

The previous suggestion is good, if the problem is that the pointer/cursor moves too fast, but is moving in the correct direction.

If your problem is that movement is erratic / random / jumpy, one problem with optical mice is that they can be sensitive to the surface you are using it on. For example, using it over something very reflective or without much contrast will really cause problems. Try using it over a mouse pad that is NOT shiny and that has lots of contrast.

Good luck.

Mouse pad helps... and so does adjusting the speed. I wish I could make mine a bit faster. It is already at the fastest speed, which is not nearly as fast as on my other computer... hmmm I wonder if I should switch mice?

Annyway Judi, try the above two suggestions and let us know how it goes!

My old mouse I had to move my hand to get it to the other side where the optical is just a gentle movement.

Think slowing down my mouse will help until I get the hang of this mouse. Figure I can speed up the mouse every couple of days to where it's fast and so am I.

The mousepad I use is not slick and it has good contrast. Tossed away the DL mousepad they gave APer's as it was slick and shiny.

Thanks everyone for the help.
