The only way to have a friend is to be one." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Speaking of drama, I have my own vent. Feel free to skip if you wish.

Two bad items in the mail today. The first is that I might be losing my health insurance. I am on COBRA, and apparently my former employer is no longer using the same COBRA provider. I have to call to find out how to get coverage. From working there, I know that the HR department is notorious for not taking calls from former employees and brushing them off. I've also heard that the guy who was in HR when I worked there has been fired, so there is a good chance I'll be shuffled around just long enough to disqualify me from coverage. :(

I also got a letter from unemployment. They have suspended my payments effective immediately. The letter doesn't state why, it just says there is a question about my eligibility and separation from employment (the same crappy job as above) and includes a form which I've already submitted about why I am unemployed. They set up an appointment for a phone interview to review my case and all payment are suspended until a determination is made a few weeks after the interview. The interview is a month away.

So not only are my unemployment payments cancelled for a month, but if they determine that I'm not eligible for any reason, I will have to pay back all the payments I've already received. This completely sucks. I have no idea what the issue is. I can think of three possibilities:
1 - I originally applied and then didn't make weekly claims because I had the temp job, then the temp job was temp-to-perm. Meanwhile, I was approved but still made no weekly claimes until the temp job ended. Then I reapplied and was approved based on my first application. I wonder if the temp job has something to do with it.
2 - My previous employer has had some turnover in the HR department. I would not be surprised if a new HR person reviewed the files and was told a different story than what really happened, and is trying to reverse the decision to save the company money.
3 - I haven't been able to find work and honestly, probably haven't been looking as hard as the unemployment office would like. I've pretty much been relying on the agency to find me work and they haven't. I have not been keeping records of my job search. It's unlikely that this is the problem, because of the paperwork included in the letter today - it was all about my separation from the last place. You all remember how much I hated it there and how awful they treated their employees -- they were much much worse to ex-employees.

I tried to call the unemployment office today but was on hold, long distance, for 45 minutes and had to hang up. I'm sure they won't be able to tell me anything anyway but I'll be trying again (and again and again) until I can get a hold of someone. I have no idea how they expect unemployed people to wait over a MONTH to determine eligibility for payment they've already been getting!! I am SO freaked out over this, I just want to curl up in a ball and cry. I can't even start work this month even if I do find something, because my parents will be in Egypt for 16 days (the last 1/2 of the month) and I have no babysitter.

I am beyond stressed out and have no idea what I'm going to do. I have enough money to pay my bills for the month but nothing extra, it will deplete all of my savings. School orientation is tomorrow and I have to buy books, classes start on Tuesday. I need new contacts & an eye exam. Lyzzie needs new glasses & an eye exam. I have a cavity & no dental insurance. There is nowhere I can cut expenses, we are already living on a wish & a prayer. Things are just piling up and I feel so lost.

Sorry for the long vent. I am at the end of my rope and really needed to unload.

On a happier note, Emma had a good birthday. I didn't have much for her but she liked it all. We didn't get to go to the pool like she wanted to, we got as far as the end of the driveway and it started raining. It was just a normal day, but with presents so she was happy. :) In a few minutes, we are going to fight the crowds at Sonic for free root beer floats. Yummy!

Lyzziesmom-- I am so so so so sorry about the stress you are under. I can't even begin to imagine how you are feeling. Hopefully it is just a mix up regarding the unemployment and it can be straightened out. I don't have any advice but I just wanted to give you hugs and tell you I am here for you!!! You can PM, email or call me any time, day or night, even just to vent!:hug::hug:

And I am so so so so sorry about missing Emma's birthday. I had it set up as a reminder on my phone and I guess it didn't go through or I didn't hear it!!! :guilty:

Happy Birthday Emma!!!!!

All these are just for you!!!

Thanks all! :grouphug: I really hope that we can all come to and understanding and get along. It wasn't until recently that it got so bad.
I do like my MIL; I just don't understand her at times. She was a huge help when Spencer was born (she came up for about two weeks and was wonderful), so for the things to happen after we got down here don't make sense.
Mike and I told everyone that we has rules and you didn't have to agree with them, but you had to follow them, because he's our kid.

Lyzziesmom, I am SO sorry you have to deal with the unemployment issues. I hope they are able to resolve this quickly and in your favor.
I don't have advice; I collected unemployment once, but it was only for about a month.

Lyzziesmom, I have nothing to offer you but a hug, a prayer and a shoulder. I'm here for you.

Happy Birthday Princess Emma!

Lyzziesmom, I am so sorry. I hope everything gets resolved quickly and in your favor. I think it's terrible that they are going to make you wait a month. :sad2: We're here for you! :grouphug:

CRAP!! You know how bad things happen in threes?

I just broke a tooth. It's a back molar. 1/4 of the tooth broke off, including the part that was under the filling. I was eating a soft caramelly protein bar - not even something crunchy or hard. :(

I have no dental insurance. I cancelled it to save a few bucks on the COBRA payment, figuring I'd have coverage soon through the temp-to-perm job. We all know how that worked out. It's too late to add dental coverage back on.

The tooth doesn't really hurt but is really sharp and the gum is exposed. I can't even get it pulled because it is right in front of the very back molar, which I had pulled a few years ago (because it broke the same way & was too costly to fix even with insurance). I'd have no molars left on that side without this tooth.

My college orientation starts in one hour & I can't miss it even if I could get into an emergency dentist.

This week is really sucky. :(:(:(

Lyzziesmom!!! I am so so so so sorry. :guilty: I know things are hard right now but they will get better!!:hug:

I finally got a hold of my mom (she doesn't answer the phone if she is busy and sees that it's only me) and she suggested filing down the tooth edges with an emery board. I told her I can't because the sharp part is the edge of the filling. She said, "Well maybe your sharp tongue can file it down." :(

Lyzziesmom, that is terrible! I'm soooooo sorry! Maybe call a dental school and ask if they have any suggestions? I wonder if it is like cosmotology and massage school, where they will let you be their "guinea pig" and fix it for super cheap? I'm praying for you!!!!

Lyzziesmom, I am so sorry. I agree with trying to find a dental school or look for a "value" dentist. We have several of them around here (I actually used one for my tooth). They charge less (and at times have coupons on their website - as silly as that sounds).

Thanks guys for all of your support and well wishes. I hate to be such a complainer. I've just been having a really bad couple of days and don't have anyone in "real life" to lean on.

My dentist is closed on Fridays, so I will call my mom's dentist in the morning to see if he can file the tooth down until I can see if a dental school can do a crown.

I went to the local college a few years back for a cleaning but it took almost 3 months to get an appointment (had to wait until that part of the class came up) and the cleaning took several hours. I don't remember why, but for some reason they couldn't finish. I guess you get what you pay for!

Orientation at my new school went well. The nursing area looks really interesting, they have these interactive dummies that can talk, breathe, and even bleed! One looked just like my dad, it was pretty funny (and creepy!). They gave me my books even though my financial aid isn't finalized yet. There will be 6 people in one of my classes, and 8 in the other. Very small! I'll have the same instructor for both classes. Hopefully I won't get confused about what I learned in which class! I can't believe classes start next week already. It just occurred to me tonight that I'll probably need to buy some school supplies. That seems so weird!

Nicole -- how is the job search going? Has the drama died down any?

Does anyone have any plans for the weekend? We are hoping it warms up so we can go to the park & the pool tomorrow! We went to the pool last night but the water was still too cold for me. Brrrr! We also have tons of movies from the library that we have to watch by Monday so that's pretty much our weekend. The last one before I'm a student again!!

Lyzziesmom- I agree with everyone about finding a dental school. Hopefully wherever you go, they will be able to help you soon. I'd be creeped out too if a dummie looked like my dad! Enjoy your last weekend off before school starts!

Work is going okay, I think I'll stay for about a month or so, that way my manager can get the new people we're hiring trained. Yet another reason why I want to leave is because I don't have insurance, I haven't have it for about 2 years and to get it at TBS you have to be full time. So finding a job with better pay and insurance is a priority.

GAH! I was just on hold with unemployment and after about 10 minutes on hold it rang, then a recording told me I had to dial an area code!! I need a good hard table to bang my head against. :headache:

I was able to get a dental appointment and they filed down my tooth, and will be putting on a crown. I get the temporary crown this afternoon. I'm so glad they were able to get me in so quickly! They also have a nice no-interest payment plan available and gave me a 30% discount. Hopefully my luck is turning around!

At first they thought I'd have to wait until next week, so I called TDS to get my schedule. My manager screwed up my schedule so bad and is blaming me! I will definitely have to talk to her when I work tonight. I have been telling her for a month about school starting and my parents' vacation, she kept telling me to fill out a new availability form but didn't give it to me until last week. She scheduled me for Weds night, which I can't work because I have school. She had me down for requesting off for my parents vacation starting Sat, but it should have started Fri and of course I'm scheduled for Fri night and can't do it.

And when I mentioned that I'd be in tonight she said I'm not on tonight. I had traded with another CM and cleared it with the ASM but he said he'd write it down later. I guess he never did. I also verbally told EVERY manager including my store manager. Today she says, "Did you get that trade cleared and approved? We'll have to have a talk about this."

My parents took the kids to Minnesota to visit family for the weekend. My grandparents are hosting a surprise bday party for my uncle. The girls were very excited. I told my dad to drive carefully because with my luck this week, I'm afraid something might happen.

Hey All!

Lyzziesmom, I'm glad you were able to get your tooth fixed! Sorry about TDS.

We booked free dining at ASMu last night! We are suppose to go Sept 28 to Oct 2. We have been wanting to try the F&W festival, since I had to cancel two years ago (due to being pregnant). I am excited to stay at ASMu; I looked at pictures yesterday and it seems nice. Plus, it's the only value we haven't stayed at yet. Of course this is after Ashley's and Lyzziesmom's trips, but Mike said we can drive over if you guys want to meet up.

I am pretty annoyed at Sprint. My Centro stopped working (it's a known issue with my model), so I was told I could get another. Well, no stores around me have the model/color I want (as silly as this sounds, I only want a pink one). So, they finally agreed to mail me a new one and I could just return the broken one.
Well, I just got an email saying they tried to call me (on the broken phone that doesn't even turn on) and then they send me an email saying they couldn't get in touch with me and to call back. I do that, but am told the rep I need to speak with isn't available and they will call me. I again give them a number to call me, but guess which number they call??? So, I get ANOTHER email telling me they will try again later. WTH?!? I swear every time I deal with them, it is a hassle. I stay though, because I have a fantastic rate I don't want to give up.

Of course this is after Ashley's and Lyzziesmom's trips, but Mike said we can drive over if you guys want to meet up.

Yay for booking free dining! And yay for coming over to meet with us! :yay: We've stayed at All Star Music and it was fine. All the All Stars seem the same to me! I'm soooo jealous about going for the Food & Wine Festival. It was so great last year! I keep wanting to move our trip up to go for my birthday and F&W Fest but the dates don't seem to work out, because Jeremiah doesn't want to be gone from work M-F, he likes it better that he will be gone a Wednesday-Tuesday (:confused3) and he can only take off certain weeks in a month.

We've had Sprint before and weren't happy with the customer service so we switched to Tmobile! I know what you mean about having a fantastic rate though- we just got a 'loyal customer' plan that has unlimited minutes for $99! (family plan) It's a great deal for us because I kept going over my minutes and causing HUGE phone bills.:rolleyes1

Lyzziesmom-- so glad you got into the dentist and they have payment plans! I know alot of places don't so that is wonderful!! Sorry about the mix up with TDS. Why do people have to be such jerks!! :headache: The girls will be fine.:hug:

Plans for the weekend?? Not much here. Trying to figure that out right now!! BTW, is the rain ever going to stop??! (It does make comfy nap weather though!)

Lyzziesmom- I'm glad you got into the dentist! Sorry about the mix up at work, I hope it all gets worked out. My manager was like that, she never looked at my availability and would schedule me to work right as I was getting out of school. It got old fast, but she was nice about it and would let me come in later.

Congrats Amber! Now I think I might have to plan a trip! I have Sprint also, and haven't had too many problems with them.
