The only way to have a friend is to be one." -- Ralph Waldo Emerson

Lyzziesmom, GREAT pictures!! Lyzzie is looking like such a beautiful little lady and Emma is getting SO big (and I love those freckles!) Thanks for sharing them.:)

Amber, I don't blame you for being nervous about the flu virus. I'm with Lyzziesmom though, if it weren't for the Dis I wouldn't even know about it, because I never watch the news (too depressing!) I usually read CNN but for some reason haven't been paying attention to this. I'm not sure what I would do if I were in your situation. Hopefully this whole thing will blow over soon anyway!!

Ok so I've been reading up on this swine flu and it doesn't seem as scary as some people on the DIS (not any of you) have made it sound. It looks like it is fairly well contained and all the attention is to make sure it stays contained.

As most of you may know, we spent yesterday evening in Urgent Care at the children's hospital with Lyzzie. It was very busy but not too many seemed actually sick, most were injured. The few sickies were wearing masks, as were most of the office staff. It was encouraging that they didn't seem too worried about the flu.

Lyzzie had gotten knocked off a pile of mats in gym class yesterday morning and landed on her wrist. She said it hurt enough that she was trying not to use it for most of the rest of the day, but not enough to tell anyone besides her best friend. Then after school, right before I got off work & called my mom, Lyzzie slipped on the kitchen floor at my mom's house and fell on the same wrist. I could hear her crying on the phone in the background but it didn't sound too bad - just kind of whiny, kwim? I got there in 5 minutes and she was sitting at the table with an icepack, happily munching on some snacks. She really seemed ok.

Her wrist was a teeny bit swollen but she could move it ok with very little pain. She refused any tylenol or motrin. She couldn't really sqeeze my hand very much. Now Lyzzie is NOT a complainer about little hurts -- even as a little kid she never wanted a bandaid for scrapes or anything. So for her to say it hurts even a little, it's got to be pretty bad. We decided to take her to Urgent Care to get an x-ray, but it really seemed like we were overreacting and it would turn out to be a sprain. I kept telling the nurses that it couldn't be bothering her too much, because she was still sassing me. Lyzzie just rolled her eyes.

Here is a pic of her goofing off at the hospital last night. This was before we went for the x-ray.

I am SO glad we went! It turns out she has a tiny fracture in her radius up by her wrist. They called it a "buckle fracture." (I am off to Google that next!) The dr. said that if the radiologist hadn't been there, the dr. would not have even seen it because it's very subtle. They put her in a splint and we have to follow up with a pediatric orthopedist and probably won't get in until next week. The dr. thinks it will have healed by then on its own.

This morning Lyzzie was feeling pretty good. By the time I woke up, she had already gotten up & ready for school, did her chores, and was busy working on making a beaded bracelet. She was pinching the string between her fingertips that were poking out of the splint! I can't believe what a trooper she is. I am very proud of her. She is upset that she can't participate in gym class today because they are playing Dance Dance Revolution.

Tonight is Open House at Emma's preschool. I am looking forward to it! The kids will sing 2 songs and Emma said she's nervous. She won't tell me what the songs are but she showed me the hand motions that go with them. It looks really cute!

Emma told me last night that she really wishes she was a superhero. She would be Super Rose :flower3:, she would wear a pink & red costume with a cape and a butterfly mask, and her super powers would include flying and having a magic wand to help other people fly and disappear, and making everyone happy.

Lyzziesmom, GREAT pictures!

Hugs to Lyzzie! I hope it heals fast and doesn't need any additional work.

Emma is just a doll! Love "Super Rose"! I hope she does well tonight.:wizard:

I don't watch the news either, so I have gotten most of my info online. People keep comparing it to the 1918 flu and that is what scares me the most. :guilty: I wish I didn't get so freaked out, but it's hard not to; it's just my nature. :sad2: I am trying to work on that though.
I did read that you can go on a cruise to Mexico for $199 a person now (balcony room); any takers????

OK, WTH was up with the AI results?? I agree with the person that went home, but what was with the bottom three?

Lyzziesmom, I'm so sorry about Lyzzie's arm!! She is a trooper isn't she??!! I'm glad its not too serious and I hope she's feeling 100% soon!!

I must've been living under a rock last night because I had no idea, I guess I wasn't using Facebook last night.:confused3

Awww, "Super Rose"! That is so adorable! Emma has a very active imagination doesn't she??!:lovestruc

I did read that you can go on a cruise to Mexico for $199 a person now (balcony room); any takers????

:lmao: Sorry, I am laughing hysterically right now at that comment!! You would have to PAY ME right now to go on that cruise, what with the swine flu and all the kidnappings and violence that's going on in Mexico.

OK, WTH was up with the AI results?? I agree with the person that went home, but what was with the bottom three?

I'm convinced now that AI skews the bottom 3. They may have the person with the lowest number of votes going home, but I find it hard to believe that the people who were in the bottom 3 were actually the people with the lowest votes. I think they do that on purpose so that the people they like get more votes the next week. I could be wrong though!!

So what's everyones plans for this weekend?

We are going to see Wolverine Origins tonight. Jeremiah could not be more excited! He has been looking forward to this movie for over a year and bugging me about going to see it opening night for weeks. I'm sure its going to be packed so we are going to have to get there early!

Gah! I of course haven't watched Idol yet this week so I'm glad you guys didn't say who went home! I don't want to know, but if it's right there I can't help looking.

Thanks for all the good wishes for Lyzzie. She really is feeling fine and I can not even believe how nonchalant she is about the whole thing. I am waiting on a call back from the ortho to get an appointment. If I don't hear back soon I will have to call again, or try a different dr. There are a few in the area but I wanted to stick with the office associated with Children's Mercy hospital because they have always treated us well at CM and they deal with kids only.

I have NO weekend plans at all! If the weather is nice on Sunday and I'm not working, we will probably go to the zoo. Emma has been wanting to go and they just opened a new indoor rainforest so it will be nice to see some new things. I am on call at TDS tonight (will be tricky because of Emma's open house, my manager forgot that I requested the night off so I compromised by saying I could come in later if needed). I have a split shift tomorrow which is on call 3-6 and then definitely working 7-10pm. Makes it hard to plan for the day! I will most likely let the kids sleep in tomorrow, they've had an eventful week with lots of late nights. Tomorrow night Lyzzie is going to her friend's house for a premiere party for the new Jonas Bro's tv show. I'm so glad she has friends whose parents will do these things, because I sure as heck don't want to!!

Have fun at the movie, Ashley!

Lyzziesmom- Lyzzie sure is a trooper, I'd still be crying! I hope it heals fast. Emma is a sweetheart!

Ashley- Have fun at the movie, Steven has been wanting to go see it, but I told him we'll either go early in the morning or wait a couple of weeks. I'm not going to deal with noisy people!

Amber- Yeah, I don't think I would want to go to Mexico right about now!

Speaking of Mexico, I can't remember if I mentioned it or not, but I had to drop spanish a while back. I was doing pretty bad. So I'm going to take it next semester since it will be my only class and I can focus on it more. I'm a little sad about not getting it all done now and graduating, but it's okay I guess.

That's okay Nicole, it can be very hard to learn a foreign language as an adult. The language wiring in our brains just isn't there past a certain age. I just found out that I'll probably have to retake college algebra -- yeuch!!

We are having a nice lazy day today. My parents are here mowing the lawn (Jonas is standing up with his front paws on the windowsill watching them  ), I have to make a Target or WalMart run, and my grandparents are coming this afternoon. Hopefully they are not coming to my house because it's still a mess from painting the living room.

I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far! Ashley, did you go to the movie? I'm with Nicole, I can't stand seeing anything on opening weekend. Too many crowds!

Your lazy day sounds nice Lyzziesmom!

I saw 17 Again last night. It was a really cute movie and I might have to buy it when it comes out.

Hey Everyone!

I hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

Friday night I had my tooth pulled. Apparently, I should have been in lots of pain, because it was abscessed. They still decided to pull it though. They gave me three shots of Novocaine, but when he came back to check, I still wasn't completely numb. So, he gave me three or four more shots (one of which was directly into the infection - talk about pain)! It took FOREVER for them to pull it (they had to use multiple tools, including the drill), and it came out in several pieces. There were a few times where he had to stand above me to try and pull it out. :guilty: I was in so much pain, because while my face, neck, and tongue were numb, that spot was not! The teeth next to the removed tooth were SO sore as well. It's hard to open my mouth all the way now, because my jaw still hurts.

Oh Amber, that sounds horrible! I'm so sorry you had to go through that. (I am imagining Steve Martin in Little Shop of Horrors!!) I have trouble getting numb too so I can completely relate. At least it's out & done so it won't bother you any more. Did they give you some pain meds afterward for while you're recovering?

Nicole -- 17 Again looks like a really cute movie! Sort of like "Big" in reverse. Lyzzie was a little disappointed when I told her it's not appropriate for her age, she is a big Zac Efron fan.

She went to her friend "N"'s house last night for a Jonas Bro's tv show premiere party. The girls had a great time but said the show stinks! They both said they'll watch it again though.

It is a gorgeous day today! We went to the zoo for a few hours this afternoon and took N with us. She is a very sweet, quiet girl and we all had a great time. Emma likes to try to steal Lyzzie's friends and spent a lot of the time holding N's hand but N said it was fine, she thinks of Emma like a cute little pet. :rotfl: We did the Lorikeet Encounter where you go into the aviary with little cups of nectar for the birds & they land all over you. N had never done that before and she said, "That was fun but it's not an experience I care to repeat."

It was so nice to see Lyzzie laughing and having a great time with her friend. She is such a smart, nice girl but the preteen moodiness has been setting in bigtime. I love seeing her just letting go, having fun and being a kid.

Can you guys believe the weekend is almost over already? It just flew by!!

Hey guys!!!

When we went to the movies on Friday it WAS packed, but they had several theaters playing it (atleast 10 if not more), so it really wasn't bad at all. At first there was a huge line and I was afraid we wouldn't get seats together, but I wasn't thinking the line was for more than 1 theater. It was also "free comic book day" and so we got 2 comic books for Jeremiah and they were giving away Wolverine movie posters. They also had a person dressed up as Wolverine and a person dressed up as Batman (:confused3 totally different company than Marvel but still fun!) It was a great movie, you guys should definitely see it!!!

Today we went to help my Grandma hang her new bedroom blinds and she gave me this hilarious picture from when we went to Disney in 1993. It's Me, my Mom, and Aunts and we are dressed up in pirate costumes posing for one of those pictures with the props! I took a picture with my phone, I will have to see if thats good enough to post on here. Otherwise I will have to scan it, its hilarious (even though we all look like dorks!!)

Amber, I'm so sorry that you had a bad experience!! That is exactly why I make them use the IV sedation before I get teeth pulled!! I hope your mouth/jaw is feeling better today!!

Nicole, I've been wanting to see 17 Again but I'll probably wait until its out on DVD, since movies cost so much now.:scared1: I was also horrible at Spanish when I took it in High School so I can relate. It didn't help that I was shy and hated talking in front of the class (especially since Spanish was most of my classmates' first language so that made it worse!)

Lyzziesmom- glad you had fun at the zoo! It sounds so fun! Take any pics??:rolleyes1

Now don't laugh...........:rolleyes1 We look like such dorks!!

From L to R: My aunt Lisa, aunt Melanie, some friend of Brooke's, my aunt Brooke, my Mom, and me in the front.

Amber- I hope you're feeling better today. That's terrible.

Lyzziesmom- I'm glad you and the girls had a good time at the zoo!

Ashley- I love that pic! :rotfl: I have an old pic of me, my dad and Tigger, I'm not too sure if I want to post it!!!

That picture is too funny! Ashley you were so cute -- and so little!! You don't even want to know where I was in 1993 (ahem, college, ahem).

I think I have to go to the school today but I forgot to write down what time & the lady hasn't gotten back to me yet. I hope it's not supposed to be too early, oops!

Amber -- how is your tooth? Feeling better?

Have a great day!!

Good Morning!! Happy Cinco de Mayo!!

Ashley, that picture is too funny! You are adorable though.

My tooth healing. My jaw is still a bit sore, but I haven't taken anything for the pain (it's hard to take medicine because I have to worry about what Spencer can have).

Morning friends!! Today is Emma's birthday party at preschool. Since her real birthday is after school ends, we had to pick a day to celebrate. We made Rice Krispy Treats in the shape of little Mickey heads using my WDW Mickey ice cube tray as a mold. It worked really well! Then I dipped the ears in chocolate so they look like they are wearing little Mickey ear hats -- that part didn't go so well but they came out fine. I wish I would have made extras but I ran out of time. At about 6pm last night, while we were on our way to Michael's for a free Mother's Day craft, Emma piped up with, "Oh yeah, we are also supposed to bring plates, napkins, and cups for my party." Aaaack! The treats weren't even made yet!! We got Mickey plates, red cups, and are using napkins that I have from WDW with the celebration artwork on them. (Yes, I collect WDW napkins, it's probably weird but we love using them!) Emma also informed me this morning that I am expected to come back to school for snack time. All this information would have been useful a couple days ago!!

Amber, I'm glad to hear your tooth is getting better. Sorry that it is still sore, that stinks when you can't take anything for the pain.

Ashley, I meant to tell you that in that picture, you can definitely tell who is in your family. You girls all have such a strong family resemblance, it's uncanny. It's a good thing you all get along with each other!!

Hey guys!!

Lyzziesmom, what a good idea for treats for Emma's birthday! I have that same ice cube tray, I will have to try that idea sometime!! Isn't it alittle early for birthday treats though, I thought Emma's birthday was in June?? ETA, DUH, you explained that in your post!!! HELLO, McFly!!! I am being dumb today.

People always say that the girls in my family look alike, especially my Mom, me, Melanie and Brooke. Lisa is the blonde hair, blue eyed one that we don't know where she came from!:confused3 :rotfl:

I'm jealous today because my Grandma, Lisa and Melanie are leaving today to go to Forks, La Push and Seattle in Washington State.:sad2: They have been planning this trip because they are Twilight fanatics (yes, even my Grandma!)and wanted to see the area. I was invited to go and was seriously considering it until Buddy got sick and needed his surgery, then we just couldn't afford it anymore.:sad1: Oh well!

Amber, totally forgot about Spencer and the medication...That must make it all worse! I feel your pain, when I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth out, I keep throwing up the pain medicine (have no idea why, maybe just a reaction to the sedation) so I couldn't take anything.:headache: Are you feeling any better today?

Nicole- Post the pic!!! :teeth:

Hope everyone is having a wonderful week. BTW, what did you guys think of American Idol?? I know this is wishful thinking, and I'm surprised I feel this way considering how I felt in the begining of the season, but I hope Danny goes tonight. He has a great voice, but I think he has become boring and that last note from Dream On was horrendous.:scared1:

Nicole, I'd like to see your pic too!!

Can you believe we still haven't watched Idol from LAST week?! We are hopelessly behind. My DVR was full again and didn't record last night's, we'll have to see if we can catch it online. I don't know why but it seems like I have even less time to get things done now that I'm home more often - I guess because I'm running around entertaining the kids all day & doing a little more housework, & then I'm pooped by evening.
