Thursday 28 October
We had a lie-in today until 7 o’clock – yay! We look a bit tired here, don't we?
We had breakfast, packed and checked out by about 8.45. Lots of the Irish party that we’d seen earlier in the week were on the bus with us. There were all in band uniform and many carried instrument cases. One girl was in a majorette uniform and carried a baton – so that kind of answered our question as to what sort of group they were!
At the Park we put our cases into Guest Storage and went into the Park. We knew we would only have time for one or two rides during EMH so we decided on Space Mountain as we’d ‘Buzzed’ twice the night before.
It was a misty moisty sort of morning.
We then strolled over through Fantasyland
for rope drop near Pirates. However there was no CM there and there was one on the other side of the bridge near Chalet au Marionette. The rope dropped early there so we changed our plans and decided that Dtr would head off to Indiana and I would get FPs for BTM. Dtr must have moved quickly as she was the first rider of the day on IJ so she decided to go round twice.
We met up again at Colonel Hathis
and waited for 10.30 for our FP for BTM. She was back off again by 10.36 – I love it when FPs work as they are supposed to.

Lucky Nugget dressed up for Halloween
We went for a look at the shops in Agrabah Bazaar and then the Merlin shop in the Castle. Crossing Fantasyland we went to Casey Jr. LPDCDF had been filled with water but they were still cleaning out each boat. I think they were probably going to open up later though. We queued for about 10 minutes to go on Casey and then decided to leave the Park to spend the rest of the day in the Studios.
We had to skirt round all the characters in Central Plaza, as the train had just stopped, then I had a couple of things to buy in the Kodak shop but eventually we left for the Studios.
Our first call was Studio Services to book our meal for 2.00 pm. Dtr decided that she really wanted to go on Crush as she hadn’t been on for a year, so she was going to queue – no matter how long it took – eek!
I went off to get FPs for TOT (they didn’t start until 5.35 pm) then I went into Toystory Playland. No, not to go on the parachutes – that’s not happening again! I wanted to go on Slinky – the wait time was showing 45 minutes but I decided to go for it anyway. I enjoyed watching and listening to the people around me in the queue – not easy to do when Dtr is with me as she chatters away at all times. The mother behind me in the queue was very smartly dressed but she was furiously and noisily chewing gum – she reminded me of a premiership manager when his side has conceded a penalty after 89 minutes. The family in front had 4 children with them – the oldest (a boy) was doing a really good job of looking after the little toddler – that was quite cute to watch. Anyway within 30 minutes I was on Slinky and loving every childish second of it.
Next I went on the Flying Carpets – this time I was behind a family who had bought the little boy a Bolt toy dog. Each time he passed a post he mimed Bolt cocking a leg and weeing – along with a loud “pssssssst” noise. They seemed to not to notice but I was having a hard time not to laugh.
Dtr had finished on Crush now (it took an hour in total) so we went to see how RC Racer was doing. This is where we made our great discovery about RC having a single rider lane. The queue time was 60 minutes but Dtr got straight on through the single rider lane.
Dtr says no-one ever takes this view - they are always busy taking the opposite view of the Hollywood Hills.
We went to the shops to get a couple of bits and pieces and then to get FPs for RnRC - we were certainly making the FPs work for us that day.
Now it was time for our booking at Rendevous des Stars. This was more than a bit chaotic – it seems that people with reservations queue in just the same way as people who turn up without booking. You just all stand in a bit queue to pay and order drinks, then in another queue to await seating. Fortunately a table for 2 came up quite quickly. As we went towards our table, Dtr said to me “oh look there’s Remy” I expected to see the little AA Remy that comes out with the dessert, but when I turned round it was the full sized one so I said “Oh, it’s the real Remy” The look my daughter gave me was withering!
Anyway there was a lot of choice of food once again and it was all very nice and worth the cost, IMO.
Look, me and my many chins having lunch.
After lunch it was time for our RnRC FPs – don’t ask me how Dtr managed to keep her dinner down! We decided to see if the single rider lane worked again on RC – yep, on and off in 5 minutes. We’re LOVING that single rider idea.
Next we went to went on Slinky and then to watch Animagique. I was very tempted by a book on Imagineering but it was €55 (no discount on books) AND it weighed a ton, so I decided against it.
It was then time for our TOT FPs so we decided this would be our last ride. We were in front of a group of 3 women, one of whom was a bit nervous – she tried to persuade me to go on as well so we’d be 2 scaredys together. Yeah, that didn’t happen.
We felt we’d had a really good day in the Studios and Dtr had achieved her ambition to do all thrill rides in one day (she had done this before, but not since RC Racer was built).
We had to collect our luggage then and make our way to the station. I have already told the story of our journey home but we were home by 10.30 UK time, having a very welcome cup of tea.
This was to be our budget trip – that was what I had decided. It certainly was the cheapest trip we ever took – the hotel and train came to less than £500. We still ate in nice places (well I think Walts and Silver Spur are nice) but we didn’t go for high end price meals like Inventions, Auberge or California Grill. We had no cocktails nor hot chocolate stops but we still bought plenty in the shops – both souvenirs and Christmas presents. We bought our lunch each day from the station instead of counter service restaurants and we topped it up with crisps and nutri-grain bars bought from home. We ended up spending less than half of our budget for the trip but still had a fantastic time, so our economy drive was very successful.
