Can you believe it's October already?!

Tonight it's cheesy chicken pasta in the crockpot, with ciabatta bread.

WFD at your house?

Tonight is football practice....we only have it Monday and Friday this week as the coach's are giving the boys Wed night off since they are kicking butt at games!! They are psyched as they were told they had to win by at least 20 points this Sunday, or they would have to run the hill all of tonight's practice, they won 36-0 so not only no hill, but only 2 nights of practice!!

Dinner tonight is going to be bourban glazed chicken and stuffing with peas and carrots. I am trying to make halfway decent meals this week, as who knows what they will eat the first week of my surgery when I am a bit out of it to supervise, lol. (can we all say pizza ugh)

have a great day!

Good Morning! Some type of chicken and what ever I have around for sides...I think I'll try doing the McCormick chicken in the bag thingy.

Have a great day!

Good morning everyone!

I hope we hear from Gretchen soon. I've been PMing and e-mailing her with no response.:guilty:

I'm going to take the leftover pork roast and make BBQ pork sandwiches for dinner tonight. Baked beans & cole slaw for sides.

Have a great day all!

Afternoon all--

Nancy- Around here we do a lot of garage parties as it gives plenty of room for tables, people and hanging out...We hang patio or christmas lights all around, and if it is nice the doors are left open and we line the driveways with tea candles in paperbags with sand in the evening, if it is cool or raining we shut the doors.
The only issue I can see is the bathroom one, if you call your local medical supply store they might be able to help you with a temporary ramp that would get those that need the assistance into the house, but I would make sure that once they were inside they could move around to get to the bathroom. (halls and doorways being wide enough etc). If it can be done Lauren's idea of a hall might work better....maybe your local VFW?

Dinner tonight will be grab and go as we have to make a boat lift delivery to Calais which is about 3hrs north of us.
I also won't get a chance to post tomorrow as we are headed to the coast to Portland Head Lighthouse for a photo shoot for Ross Karate team, we will be having a picnic for lunch with the team, then we will stop at a fav mexican place for supper with friends, then we will stop on the way home so Kris and Ross can put a dock in.

Kathy- here is the biscuit recipe: (this can also be halfed)

2 cups of all purpose flour
1 TBS of baking powder
2 Tsp of sugar
1/2 Tsp of cream of tartar
1/4 Tsp of salt
1/2 cup of butter
1 cup of milk

Stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar and salt. Cut in the butter until it resembles course crumbs. Add milk and stir until mixed. Drop onto greased cookie sheet.(I use a big cereal spoon and just scoop a bunch of it up and drop it) Cook at 450 for 10-12 minutes....until golden....they are sooo good right out of the oven!!!

Have a great weekend friends!!!

Hello to all of you wonderful cooks. I have been in the process of reading all of these great recipes and making note of the ones I want to try. I did TRY to make these drop biscuits, however, they did not rise. They were more like a cookie:confused3 Were they supposed to rise like a regular biscuit? Do you have any idea what I could have done wrong? Thanks:flower3:

I still need to change my ticker to July!:tink:

Glynis -- I can't believe the parents didn't apologize! It's bad enough the child was trying to grab something off of someone else's plate, but to just brush the behavior off is ridiculous. I hope Mary's arm is feeling better.

Wendie -- You are always so busy and so organized. I don't know how you do it. Good luck with all your preparations this week. I have no doubt that you'll have Kris and Ross eating well.

Kathy -- Thanks for the cauliflower recipe. Liam and Caili like cauliflower anyway, but I bet they'll like this even more. I'll have to substitute for the egg though.

Right now, I am planning to make pasta with lots of fresh tomatoes, but it's Monday Night Football -- Go Pats! -- so if I think up something more creative, I may change the menu.

I am definately not an expert - but I had a couple of things come to mind...
Did you use All Purpose flour? If you used self rising or cake flour - they will have different outcomes. Did you sift your flour - that always makes them fluffier.
Did you use baking powder - NOT baking Soda?
What about the milk - if you used 1% or Skim - they will come out different too rather than if you used 2% or whole milk.

This weekend DH and I had the Omaha Top Sirloin steaks and baked potatoes. They were very good - the steak has such good flavor! Then last night we had the Omaha Burgers and Franks with chili cheese fries. Those were very good as well. I don't think I would pay full price for the Omaha stuff - but when they have those deals - they are worth it.
I had 2 really good wines this weekend too... 2005 Luna Pinot Grigio and a 2002 Irony Cabernet Sauvignon. We found the Luna at Costco - we tasted their wines while in the Napa Valley and knew it would be good. The Irony was an excellent cab - went well with our burgers and franks.

WFD tonight - its going to be grilled steak nachos - using the leftover Omaha steaks. Ya'll have a good day...

I think that Mary is ok with what happened. We talked about it, and she understands that not all kids are like that. I washed the cuts out really well, and so far, no infection. Considering he drew blood, I'm glad that they look as good as they do!

Dinner tonight is the citrus garlic roast chicken on this thread! Yumm!!!!! I was going to do it for dinner last night, but we ended up celebrating DH's stepdad's birthday. It was fun, but my mouth was set for roast chicken. So, no fiddling around! Today is chicken day!!!! I'll probably bake some potatoes and steam some broccoli to go with it. Nothing fancy, but since the weather has turned downright cold here, this comfort meal will taste really good!

Last night we had KFC and cake. Tonight i picked up fish sticks FF and chicken nuggets. I have no idea if we will end up having them, I landed wrong on my leg and now I am very sore. I am off it for the rest of the night.
I know I'm late getting to this Nancy BUT, (Putting on sternest face I can muster without giggling) What the heck were you doing that you "LANDED" wrong?!? Weren't you supposed to be relaxing and reading?!? Young lady.... we're going to have to work on this not listening thing!;)

I will be at least 2 weeks with my left hand from mid forearm to fingertips in a cast, then I will be another 4 in a splint that goes from mid hand to elbow.
So, will you be reading and then dictating to Ross what you want posted? :lmao: ;) And I'd love to see Kris playing his Vidal role!

Boring weekend here, Rick visited for a day and is back in Detroit. BUT....we leave for DL Friday morning. I started packing last night.:yay: :yay: :yay:

Dinner will be a trip to the store to see what sounds good.

Need any help planning how to get around DL??? I am the Disneyland queen! I could plan a day blindfolded!!! Let me know what I can do to help!

This is the start of my crunch week....one week from tomorrow is my surgery for my torn TFC on my wrist. I have to get food cooked ahead, meetings taken care of at school, Kris' shirts Ironed for at least 2 weeks. My grandmothers groceries, and bills done. I have a few other errands to take care of as well. (food, paper products and some medical supplies)
I will be at least 2 weeks with my left hand from mid forearm to fingertips in a cast, then I will be another 4 in a splint that goes from mid hand to elbow.
At least it is my left hand as I am right handed. I went and got my hair cut into a stacked bob, as Kris will have to wash and dry it for me. (he is calling himself Vidal, lol) I had to go buy some track and lounge pants, as I have to make sure it is all elastic waist so I can pull them up and down to pee, lol. I am a jeans girl so this was not fun shopping.
I will be out of work at least 4 weeks, maybe all 6 depends on how it all goes and my P/T schedule.
This will be an inconvience for a bit, but it is worth it to get my wrist taken care of as I have been in unreal pain for over a year, first trying to ingnore it and then trying to get tests and specialist appts. My Dr. is ahand and wrist specialist, so I have the best in the field. He said he doesn't understand how I have gone a year with the amount of pain this type of injury causes. Only a man would say that, lol...all women know how you go along with this sort of thing....we never make time for ourselves, no matter what it is, until forced to, lol.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!!

I wish that your surgery was not so involved but any wrist surgery seems to be invasive. You are so organized though, I am way impressed!

Separate one head of cauliflower into flowerettes(not to small, maybe 2 inches in diameter). Par-boil until barely tender; remove to iced water. You can either deep fry or fry in a skillet at 350. Make an egg-wash with 1 egg and 1/2 c. milk. Combine equal parts flour and Italian bread crumbs in a separate dish and season with salt & pepper. Dip cauliflower in egg mixture then into bread crumb/flour mixture and fry until golden-brown.

This looks sosoooooo good!

Nope. No apology. I couldn't believe it. She just said, "I guess he's a bit overwhelmed by all the people." Well, then, don't take him out on the busiest night of the week! If it had been my kid, we'd have been out in the car in time out! We did that with all our kids if they acted up in restaurants. There were many times when Alan and I would take turns eating our meals while the kids were in time out in the car.

:sad2: When Little Jimmy gets "overwhelmed" in 5 years what will she do????????

:cheer2::cheer2: You have got to love those game!

I hope that everything is okay. Her family has a lot to deal with right now.

Hi There! I wish I was some help but my biscuits came out like rocks . We have some bakers here so I bet help will coming.

First, You have got to be getting excited! I have never been to DL bit would love a trip.

As to my knee.....(hang head in shame) I had put two gallons of milk in the bed of Buddy's truck. along with some other groceries. It sits high so when I got home I could not reach the milk....so I climbed on the wheel and reached over to get them, and then when I tried to get down I landed hard on my right leg. Lori- I swear I have never felt pain like that! I saved the two gallons of milk but never got them into the fridge because I could not stand up. Lesson learned! Buddy was furious when he got home, he stopped all of the teasing about over 50, and ran a bath for me. I stayed on the couch the rest of the night and really lounged for the weekend.

Now I am doing some laundry and ironing, but letting everything else go. Dinner will be American Chop Suey so everyone can just help themselves.

ETA: I am usually not too stubborn but we are leaving next Thursday and I have a list that I want to get done before we go. Buddy will be home and I wanted to make sure that he doesn't need to worry about the things I normally do. He has been super busy at work and his hours are long.

They are a drop biscuit, so basically how you "drop" them on the pan is how they will cook, they will fluff up a bit, they are crunchy on the outside, and super soft, and fluffy in the middle. I usually scoop up a bit with a big cereal spoon and then just drop them on the pan.

Hi All.. The swiss steak was pretty good last night..It's a keeper..Here is the recipe

Paula Deen's Swiss Steak
1 round steak (approximately 1 1/2 pounds), see note (I used cube steak)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
Salt and pepper
All-purpose flour, for dusting
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1 (14-1/2 ounce) can diced tomatoes
1 medium onion, cut into strips
1 medium bell pepper, cut into strips

Cut steak into serving-size pieces. Season, to taste, with garlic powder and salt and pepper. Dust meat with flour. In heavy skillet, brown both sides of meat in vegetable oil. Transfer to Dutch oven. Combine garlic, tomatoes, onion, bell pepper, and 1 tomato-can measure of water. Pour over steak and simmer over low heat until meat is tender, about 1 1/2 hours adding water, if necessary to keep meat partially covered. Season, to taste, with additional salt and pepper. Hint: Cook this in a slow-cooker, according to manufacturers instructions, on low for a most fabulous dinner. Low heat on a slow cooker is about 200 degrees F and high heat on a slow cooker is about 300 degrees F.

Today I will make pesto sauce and we will have it with 3 cheese tortalini and garlic and cheese bread

:scared1: That's it! I am done for today.

I just finished Book 6 of the Harry Potter series and I keep seeing your Rick every time Hagrid comes into the stories ;). Donny is going to bring Book 7 to me this week...now I know why he barricaded himself in his house for the weekend when it came out!

It wouldn't be a bad idea to take one just in case. Usually, in October (when we usually go), the days are very pleasant, and T's and capris are fine. Once the sun goes down, however, things can get chilly. It's nice to have a pullover in a backpack that you can whip out during Fantasmic if you need to!

I have a whole file on how to maximize your time at DL. Want me to send it to you? If you do, PM me your email address and I'll get it off to you! DL is a lot of fun, and you really can do all you want to do in a 2 or 3 days. Let me know how long you are going to be there, and I'll see if my plan can help you guys out!

I loved book 7. You'll get sucked into it quick. I think 6 and 7 read more like one long book rather than 2 seperate ones.

And I'm glad you're done for the day. Rest, maybe with a heating pad.;)

Hey guys, I just heard from Gretchen, Kenny's Dad passed away this morning. Please keep her and her family in your prayers.:sad1:

Aw, man. I'm so sorry about Kenny's dad.

I have to attend a funeral on Wed of a good friend that just lost his dad unexpectedly. I knew his dad okay but I'm so emotional over it because his dad was the same age as my dad - mid 50s. You just don't want to think about it happening to you. =(

Tonight we had the chicken cordon bleu casserole and it was a hit! We loved it - even DH who is so picky. Thanks to whomever posted it originally!
