Glynis, your get together sounds fun..I love quice and I need to get some recipes for veggie versions..I made a spinich and cheddar cheese one for us recently.
Today is comfort foods..I'mtrying out Paula Deens recipe for swiss steak..It's in the crock pot right now. I'll make it with smashed red potatoes.
I am trying something else I've never done..I'm making an apple pie.. I don't really bake unless it's from a box... I am cheating and using premade crust and I will make my own sort of crumb topping for the top..This could turn out to be a disaster,so cross your fingers.

Glynis- your day sounds like so much fun! I love a family day and one with good food is even better! Now as to that child.......he is lucky your kids are so restrained, I think. When a neighbor boy hit my Donny, Marisa chased him up a tree. He was afraid to come down, even with his Mother there until I called her off :lmao::lmao::lmao:. I know I am not supposed to laugh, but he was such a bully until he found out Marisa could beat up her brothers and was now looking at him.

Jenny- your pie is going to be so good!

Kathy- Buddy is dozing on his chair...I promised him tuna thinking I could get him to go visit his Mother...no luck. He is getting his favorite sandwich stuffing and still won't bend about his Mother.

Now this woman was not a good Mom and I really do not have any use for her but I saw how upset he got when his sister said that "it did not look good". She was exaggerating a lot...she broke her hip and her arm in several places, but he knows that there will be a day when that call does come. I don't want him to wish he had done things differently so I keep trying to get him to at least open the door. I'll keep trying and I hope that if he does go, she does not behave as badly as the last time we saw her.

I'm really proud of myself..My pie looks BEAUTIFUL! Wow. I can't believe it came out looking so good.

My pie

I'll make real whipped cream to go on top

Boiled dinner it is!!

My Mom called about an hour ago and told us that my Aunt was taken to the Emergency room. She has been failing in the last few years, looks like her kids (in their 50's) are finally facing the fact that she is not well. My dh's Nana has been in the hospital since May.... not sure how much more we can take.

Jenny - let me know if you like Paula's swiss steak recipe. I would love to try it if it's good (and easy!).

Tonight we're going to Spring Creek for BBQ. I just got in from work and have lots more to do and don't want to cook. We have BOGO free coupons. I think I'll have brisket with some veggies =)

Keep trying Nan, hopefully when he does go things will go well.

Prayers for all.

My dad, brother and Liam went golfing this afternoon, Becky and BIL went to his parents, so that left me, my mom and Caili on our own. Mom came to my house, cooked an awesome ravioli dish with a balsamic reduction, basil and sea salt, made her dipping oil for bread, and brought wine. It was a pretty easy day for me. :thumbsup2

:grouphug: I am so so very sorry. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

KUDOS to Becky! The curry roasted sweet potatoes are amazing. Between that and the fried cauliflower, I hardly ate any pork roast. The cauliflower is something my Mom always did.:goodvibes

I am pretty much lost as I haven't had a moment on here since friday.......I missed Janice leaving....I am jealous as to where she is today, but so happy for her as well!!

Stephanie--Glad to see you check in!!

Mermaid--I am so very sorry!! You are all in my thoughts!!

Jenny- Your pie looks delish!!! I cheat too and use a store bought crust, and it is still yummmmmmy!! How is Ed feeling today?

Glynis-- What a fun day!! I am happy you had such a nice (spoiled) time with your dad too!!! Sorry about the out of control brat though...did this child's parents react at all?

Nancy--How is the knee doing this evening?? Please be careful and take it easy....You have a lot of walking ahead of you!
Just keep softly pushing Buddy, and maybe he will go see her. At least give it one more try, that way if it doesn't go well, and she hasn't changed he at least tried.
How were those tuna sandwiches;) lol

Lauren- glad you had a nice day outside with your men!

Laura-you got some nice time with your mom and caili today, that is wonderful!

Becky--I love all the cocktails you make....and the food too!!

Kathy--Does Kyle have a fall homecoming? Things are sometimes different in other areas of the US, then up here in our little corner.

We had Ross' football game this afternoon, his team won again 36-0! They are undefeated...Ross' left arm, that he blocks with is one huge bruise from his fingertips to his shoulder. I have to look into some arm pads tonight for him. It looks like he was in a car accident...good thing they know me at school or they would be calling DHS, I swear, lol!

This is the start of my crunch week....one week from tomorrow is my surgery for my torn TFC on my wrist. I have to get food cooked ahead, meetings taken care of at school, Kris' shirts Ironed for at least 2 weeks. My grandmothers groceries, and bills done. I have a few other errands to take care of as well. (food, paper products and some medical supplies)
I will be at least 2 weeks with my left hand from mid forearm to fingertips in a cast, then I will be another 4 in a splint that goes from mid hand to elbow.
At least it is my left hand as I am right handed. I went and got my hair cut into a stacked bob, as Kris will have to wash and dry it for me. (he is calling himself Vidal, lol) I had to go buy some track and lounge pants, as I have to make sure it is all elastic waist so I can pull them up and down to pee, lol. I am a jeans girl so this was not fun shopping.
I will be out of work at least 4 weeks, maybe all 6 depends on how it all goes and my P/T schedule.
This will be an inconvience for a bit, but it is worth it to get my wrist taken care of as I have been in unreal pain for over a year, first trying to ingnore it and then trying to get tests and specialist appts. My Dr. is ahand and wrist specialist, so I have the best in the field. He said he doesn't understand how I have gone a year with the amount of pain this type of injury causes. Only a man would say that, lol...all women know how you go along with this sort of thing....we never make time for ourselves, no matter what it is, until forced to, lol.

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!!

Dinner tonight was sweet and spicy kielbasa, mashed taters and corn...a fav of my boys!

I'll get the recipes from yesterday for you. The one I tried was a zuchini tomato quiche. It was so yummy!

Yesterday was a real family day.

For dinner, we all went out to Golden Corral. It's the best place to take 8 children, and know that they'll find something to eat. It was a lot of fun, until my Mary got attacked by a child at a neighboring table.

Glad you had a nice weekend. I am sorry that your daughter got hurt. Did the kids parents at least apologize?

Kathy- Buddy is dozing on his chair...I promised him tuna thinking I could get him to go visit his Mother...no luck. He is getting his favorite sandwich stuffing and still won't bend about his Mother.

You should be dozing right next to your man resting that leg!!! I am sorry about the situation with his Mom.

I'm really proud of myself..My pie looks BEAUTIFUL! Wow. I can't believe it came out looking so good.

Jenny, your pie looks awesome! I baked my first apple pie when I did the WDWCP and it came out like soup. :confused3 It was Easter and we were a bunch of college kids away from family for the holiday so we got out the soup spoons and dug it...It was still yummy!

Also, I would love the steak recipe too if it comes out good. TIA!!! :)

Laura, what a nice girls day!

My Mom used to make the cauliflower too...I never did get the recipe...I would love that too...

Yeah Ross! Poor thing sounds like he is going to be one sore boy tomorrow.

You sound so organized for your upcoming surgery. I wish I was closer to give you a hand...good luck to Kris with your hair...I have been super lazy with my hair lately...I just pull it back in a pony tail...I have no body and it just looks blech when I blow it out and not do the velcro roller thing.

I feel for you with the shopping too. I hate clothes shopping due to being a little bottom heavy and 5'11" I have a hard time finding a good fit.

OK, I have rambled enough! :)

Have a good night all!

Just checking in before Desperate Housewives & Brothers & Sisters(my fave show).

The cauliflower recipe isn't really a recipe but I'll do my best:

Separate one head of cauliflower into flowerettes(not to small, maybe 2 inches in diameter). Par-boil until barely tender; remove to iced water. You can either deep fry or fry in a skillet at 350. Make an egg-wash with 1 egg and 1/2 c. milk. Combine equal parts flour and Italian bread crumbs in a separate dish and season with salt & pepper. Dip cauliflower in egg mixture then into bread crumb/flour mixture and fry until golden-brown.

I did this in a hurry so if something doesn't make sense please ask questions. It's SOOOO GOOD!!!

Nope. No apology. I couldn't believe it. She just said, "I guess he's a bit overwhelmed by all the people." Well, then, don't take him out on the busiest night of the week! If it had been my kid, we'd have been out in the car in time out! We did that with all our kids if they acted up in restaurants. There were many times when Alan and I would take turns eating our meals while the kids were in time out in the car.

Parents now a days are the reason so many kids are messed up. :sad2:

Glynis I can't believe the parents did not apologize. I would have had DD apologize and then put in time out.

Glad to hear the res of your weekend was fun.
