The weather is completely unpredictable that time of year.

Exactly! When we went in December we had some nights we were wearing our winter coats. Other nights, just a light sweater or sweatshirt was sufficient. It's hard to pack light for December in Florida.

We went Thanksgiving week last year and it was very crowded, but we enjoyed it anyway. We're going the week after Thanksgiving this year. I love WDW during the holidays.:cloud9:

That's when we went two years ago. We loved it. There were some days where we felt we had the entire place to ourselves.

DH, the kids, my ILs and I are all going to the Red Sox game tonight. Normally, I wouldn't allow a night game the night before school begins, but this is a special trip arranged by the Red Sox organization for us. My MIL knows some people in the front office, and they offered this as something special before DH leaves for Iraq again. An ambassador is meeting us for a private tour of Fenway Park, then we'll get to be on the field for batting practice and meet some of the players, then we have tickets to the game. I'm not sure where we are sitting, but I'll be sure to take pictures. Dinner will be standard ballpark fare.

How exciting for all of you!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

I'm ready to strangle the person who came up with Labor Day!!!!! Actually, I enjoy Labor Day, but I really hate that our school starts before Labor Day, and just as the kids are getting into a routine, along comes this holiday and they get a day off! Not fair!!!!!

Anyway, the kids have cleaned our playroom, and I promised them a trip to Krispy Kreme for a hot donut off the line. So, that's where we're headed this morning.

Dinner tonight will be the Brown Sugar Pork Chops from the list, pork and beans, and tomatoes from the garden. If I get ambitious, I'll make some oven roasted cherry tomatoes!

Janice- how sad about your cousin. I never knew how many "connections" the brain has.

Laura- my Sis IL will be there as well. I have to share your wonderful day with her today. She is bringing her boyfriend ( I cannot think of another term, but there is something odd about referring to a 58 YO man as a boyfriend) and we are meeting him for the first time. She has never had a nice guy, her first marriage was a disaster, so we are all thrilled for her.

I think it is brave for her to bring him when all of my kids will be there and they are going to be in rare form....if he can handle that he can handle anything :lmao:

Glynis- :lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao: Labor Day!

Kathy- Our menu is about the same. Dan has hamburgers, hot dogs kielbasa patties and dogs and turkey burgers for you know who. She also had a melt down when I wanted to add roast beef to the BBQ beans :scared:, so I tossed in chicken instead. Can't wait for the desserts...Gail and Janice are bringing them :thumbsup2

Have a safe holiday everyone....and DO NOT work too hard!

We are going that week ourselves this year and hope we enjoy it as much as you did.

I hope you all have a wonderful time at the game today. The entire trip sounds fabulous and well worth sending tired children to school.

Now that DH has had his first hot off the line KK, he is dying for another. We don't live close enough to get there often, so the last time he knew we were going to be near the KK, he wanted me to call to get their baking schedule. Gotta love a man with his priorities in the right place. :rotfl:

Today we are having mostly leftovers from the weekend, though I am grilling DH a steak and making myself a piece of herb pesto marinated chicken with tomatoes on top.

Happy Labor Day everyone! I am feeling very lazy today, and am really enjoying having the day off.

Afternoon all....I hope you all are having a very nice Labor Day!!:)

Thank you all for the great tips, I have been trying to get this holiday trip organized...like I mentioned b4, I am one to plan a trip a year out....this is about as spontaneous(sp) as I get :lmao: I have a bit of OCD, so this is out of my comfort zone a bit!!:headache: The one thing I keep telling myself when I stress on it is that this year I have no decorating to do!!!...(We are a bit griswald on this aspect of the holiday) My electricty bill will thank me!:cool1:

We are doing All Star Sports, as Pop was booked for the dates we needed..Ross and Kris are excited, and I think it will be fun to get different pictures, instead of another year in front of Mr. Potato Head, :upsidedow .

We were able to get the few ADR's that we wanted....we like to just do a few each time, as Kris hates the time it takes, especially where the parks with be hopping!!
We are doing breakfast at Kona our first full day there.
Christmas day :santa: we have no set plans for parks per se, that is our day to go to DTD, visit the resorts, (I am really looking forward to the GF!!),and just hop from park to park, we will try to stop at each one for a bit that day, if we find the time. We also are doing lunch at 50's, and then dinner will be at WCC around 7:30.

I was out voted 2-1 for MVMCP. Bummer, but I will win on something else, lol!

We have been in Tampa for Christmas a few years ago, and the weather was every which way....but still ALWAYS warmer then home in Maine, lol. All the other years have been in January for either wdw or my folks, and it is all over then as well, I figure layers and the good thing this time is that we are driving down so we will have our coats and gloves from when we started the Journey, plus plenty of room for extra clothes for layering.

Lauren- thanks for the tip on no bag...that is the part that Kris hates...he calls himself the pack mule, so he is your new best friend after I mentioned your tip on this!!:goodvibes I will appreciate any and all tips you want to PM me, it will be great to get them from someone who has been during this time of the year.
I am going to make a list of what rides we must do.....those we have never done..(IASW for example) and those we have done before and don't mind skipping. We are going with the no hurry mode, take it as it comes and just stroll along and enjoy ourselves. Like I said to Ross....We can go back anytime and it will all still be there!

Ok I have babbled on long enough here, skipping over the whole true intention of this thread....yikes:rolleyes1

Janice--Sorry about your cousin...interesting bit of information on the singing part though.
Please share the root beer bean recipe!!
Nancy--Sounds like you and Buddy had a very nice summer supper. I am jealous of your front porch...we are supposed to put a farmers porch on the front of our home, but as it goes...others people job's come before our own....due to the fact that the others pay the bills,:rotfl:
Becky--How wonderful to have such a special event for today for all of you and your courageous DH!! Have a wonderful time. popcorn::
Laura and Becky--Another outstanding meal....I tip my hat to you both!
Lindsey--Sorry on the blah inlaw meal once again...maybe you should bring snacks from home in your purse and slip them to yourself when no one is looking?!!? Or better yet....have an empty dish in there to slide the bland food into!!

WFD---Garlic bread, salad, and tortellini with turkey meatballs ( I have some ground turkey to use up) and a homemade marinara sauce.

Yup! The nice thing about going when you know you're going to get a hot one off the line, is that the kids are so full of hot donuts, that you can get a half dozen to bring home for dessert!

Wendie - :thumbsup2 to you!!! You are doing so well planning for this spontaneous trip. I'm so over the top, I've been planning this trip since December of last year. I've got every day planned, we're cramming everything into eleven days. I'll need a vacation from planning before my vacation!:upsidedow

Gynis, are you making the Brown Sugar Pork Chops I posted? The ones with the Montreal Steak seasoning and red wine? If so, and you aren't planning on using the wine, I would recommend using a little less of the steak seasoning. My kids think it is "too hot" when I use the full amount and use a broth based sauce instead of the red wine one.

Thanks. I was going to ask you if there were any changes to be made since we don't do the wine thing. I'll tone down the seasoning. Thanks!!!!!

Tonight I grilled burgers and made tator tots. My burger was stuffed with gorgonzola, it's my fave way, and DH had his just plain with american cheese on top. He's lame ;)

I took this photo just for you guys! Fenway Park food:

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1326/1294135376_a939e94332.jpg

It was....erm....barely edible, as always. Pictured here we have a "fabulous" turkey panini...one slice of turkey and one slice of flavorless cheese on two week old bread...no condiments...$7.25. Then, you can see my most excellent white wine, served in a plastic cup, a bargain at $7.00. Too bad it was not drinkable. Totally my fault, I should have known better than to buy a glass of wine at a ballpark! The one funny thing is that I got carded, which has not happened to me in years.

Thankfully, you can see that I had my backup beverage in the background, a "delicious" canned heineken, another bargain at $7.75! Not pictured is my 12 ounce bottle of water....$3.00.

You'd think with those prices they could at least win the game, darn it!! :confused3

I haven't read thru everything I've missed the past couple of days, but I just had to comment on this first! Becky if you weren't so young & gorgeous, you would have been happy to be carded!!! I know for me, I would be thrilled to pay that $7.00 just to be asked for ID!!! :rotfl: That would be a thrill all by itself!!!!;)

Here are some photos from yesterday's antipasto. Laura told me that she likes my photos but she thinks I should tell you whether I liked the taste of the things I make, so from here on out I'll add commentary.

Assorted sausages with marinara sauce. There are three kinds, sweet pork italian, hot pork italian, and garlic chicken. That's my all-time favorite marinara sauce!

Proscuitto-wrapped asparagus and fontina bundles. I did not eat this, but everyone else said they were yummy.

Roasted onions with thyme. Very sweet and good.

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1258/1297975643_c23e21bb0a.jpg

Assorted olives and meats. There's proscuitto, pancetta, and dried duck breast.

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1038/1298843914_27eba302f2.jpg

Two types of fritters. The ones on the left are eggplant, and the ones on the right are risotto.

I also made a pan of manicotti with marinara that I forgot to take a picture of, which is too bad because it was the favorite dish!

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1173/1298843384_e75b623b30.jpg

Cannelini bean salad. Laura made this, and it was yummy!

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1383/1297974039_258685bf77.jpg

Artichoke fritatta. I love artichokes but don't cook with them often. They go really well with eggs though--this fritatta was super tasty.

Tomato-rubbed bruschetta. Laura made this too, and they were good but incredibly garlicky!!

I took a picture of the kitchen once we were done cooking but Laura said it was too scary and I should not post it! :lmao:

Today is the Caribbean menu. I put the rice bundles together yesterday and the flavor of the rice was terrific, so I have high hopes for today's meal.

Okay lady! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 I am so ready to pay you big bucks to come down to N'awlins & cook for your Nola girlfriends!!! :cool1: You are too awesome!!! We just had a barbecue yesterday! Good food, that I was able to allow the guys to grill! But nothing to take pictures of!!!

Y'all talk way too much & I really have to try to go to sleep!!!! So I can't read through everthing! I hope everyone had a great Labor Day weekend!!!!

We did, had lots of family over, Lauren's marinade on country style pork ribs was the biggest hit!!!! ( Lauren you have to try it! Totally yummy, a lot like ribs from a chinese rest., even our super picky people loved it!)

We did have a crappy thing happen, Alexis fell down & cut open her knee pretty bad. Her Mom (surgery nurse) and my son in law (E.R. nurse & in school for anesthesia ) decided they were going to handle it at home!!! When my SIL asked if I still had syringes for my allergy shots I literally got weak, thought I was going to pass out!!!! They thought she needed one or two stitches but with our ER wait at hospitals right now & how much Alexis was already freaking out I didn't argue with the medical personell!!!! Thank the Good Lord, SIlL had some of that Dermabond surgery glue & it worked!!!! If they had pulled out needles, Alexis & her Nana would have been in seriously bad shape!!!

Sheryl

Tonight I'm finally getting to make the jambasta. Lunch yesterday wasn't that bad. I was so hungry that I would have eaten anything, so the hot dogs my FIL burned just for tasted pretty yummy (<--- burned at my request, I LOVE them that way!).

WFD at your house?

Poor baby! You have got to love that super glue, without it I cannot imagine how they would have been able to manage taking care of their baby. It is one thing to sew up a stranger, you rown is way more than most can handle.
