Nancy, I don't see why it would be a problem to have the party in the garage. If it is a nice day you could open the garage door, block off the driveway and use that space too. The bathroom thing would have to be worked out though....I am wondering if perhaps a ramp could be rented for the day, to get them in and out of the house? I know nothing about this at all, it was just something that occured to me. I know I have seen temporary ramps installed around here from time to time...they are metal, with railings. Again, I have no idea how expensive/complicated this would be!

So, I ended up not going out to dinner last night. I did not get out of the gathering until after 8 PM so DH and I just went home and I pulled together a cheese plate with a couple of meze things added. I took a photo but was too tired to upload it last night. I'll put it up when I get home.

Tonight I am trying a recipe I picked up at the farmer's market. It is pistachio-lemon sugar coated chicken. With that I am going to serve some risotto flavored with herbs and lemon zest, and some sauteed spinach.

Afternoon all--

Nancy- Around here we do a lot of garage parties as it gives plenty of room for tables, people and hanging out...We hang patio or christmas lights all around, and if it is nice the doors are left open and we line the driveways with tea candles in paperbags with sand in the evening, if it is cool or raining we shut the doors.
The only issue I can see is the bathroom one, if you call your local medical supply store they might be able to help you with a temporary ramp that would get those that need the assistance into the house, but I would make sure that once they were inside they could move around to get to the bathroom. (halls and doorways being wide enough etc). If it can be done Lauren's idea of a hall might work better....maybe your local VFW?

Dinner tonight will be grab and go as we have to make a boat lift delivery to Calais which is about 3hrs north of us.
I also won't get a chance to post tomorrow as we are headed to the coast to Portland Head Lighthouse for a photo shoot for Ross Karate team, we will be having a picnic for lunch with the team, then we will stop at a fav mexican place for supper with friends, then we will stop on the way home so Kris and Ross can put a dock in.

Kathy- here is the biscuit recipe: (this can also be halfed)

2 cups of all purpose flour
1 TBS of baking powder
2 Tsp of sugar
1/2 Tsp of cream of tartar
1/4 Tsp of salt
1/2 cup of butter
1 cup of milk

Stir together flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar and salt. Cut in the butter until it resembles course crumbs. Add milk and stir until mixed. Drop onto greased cookie sheet.(I use a big cereal spoon and just scoop a bunch of it up and drop it) Cook at 450 for 10-12 minutes....until golden....they are sooo good right out of the oven!!!

Have a great weekend friends!!!

Thanks Wendie!!!!

Nancy, This idea may not go over well but I have heard of people renting port o johns for home parites when there are alot of people, etc. My sister went to a wedding once at someone's house and they had bathroom trailers. Just a thought...

I know that if either one of the guys had to get into the house there is enough room to maneuver, but I do think she needs to talk this over with Mike. Lauren, I think a transfer would be tough with a porto john. I don't remember a lot of space. If she cannot find an answer I think she will need to use a restaurant. She was trying to avoid a hall or restaurant so that his family and the few friends they would invited could see their home. I think that Mike can build a ramp if they cannot rent one, but it would be better if this is not a surprise, I think.

I'll talk to her about the menu and if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate them.

I think we are going to run some errands tonight so no cooking here, we'll eat somewhere.

Becky- I'd eat anything that you "just pulled together" and fell it is a gourmet meal!

Kathy- You are making me crave fried green tomatoes. Next week, no matter what I am fixing them!

Wendie- have a great weekend!

I was hoping that they could help me. I have no idea how they are going to manage the bathroom issue yet. I think that she wants to have the party in their new home but managing this during the week in such a short time frame may be iffy.

Nancy, Your party ideas sound great! I don't think anyone would think it was tacky. The buffet & food ideas sound a good too me! Any space can be set up great with party stuff! My DD's early BB parties always took place in the garage. It was the only spot to fit all of the family & lots of kiddies running around with cake icing all over them!;)

I think having it in the garage would give them more room to move around & make it more comfortable for them. ( My Mom continually wants to host holiday gatherings at her house, Bob can get in, but then can't move at all, he ends up not eating with everyone, not going to the bathroom etc., it's just not very pleasant for him.)

But the bathroom issue could be a problem and how is the heat over there? Is being outside going to be miserable? ( Heat & sweating can be more of an issue for those in wheelchairs.) Not knowing anything about the house, or the two guys in the WC's makes it tough to give voice my op on this. But could they manage some sort of ramp to get them inside, to have access to the bathroom? They are portable ramps they could consider purchasing also? But if the inside of the house isn't roomy enough that won't work either. And I know some of those power chair are huge!

Believe me though, the guys in the chairs are used to things not being accessible & probably have their own ways to work things out. I'm sure your BIL & Sis know whether his brother & friend need bathroom access or not & if he'd be comfortable outside.

I ended up not even fixing salad for dinner last night. We had a thunderstorm come through & as soon as it started raining the electricity went out. And boy did the house get hot quick! So, we went out for pizza. DD ended up on her own last night so we hung out at our local fav pizza place with her & a pitcher of beer until the electricity came back.

Yes Kathy is was MO's!!! ;)

I'm not feeling up to par today, so don't know WFD tonight?

Wendie, Is that biscuit recipe the same if you make drop biscuits or roll them out?

It rained here last night?!?:confused3 ;)

My dinner plans changed too. I locked myself in the store and worked all night. Took a little kitty nap and am back at it today. I am determined to get this order done AND spend time with DH this weekend. I ordered in steak and garlic mashed potatoes from the bistro next door.

Tonight is game food since the Saints play the Bills!:cool1:

Thank God football is back! :dance3::cheer2::dance3:

I can't speak for his roommate, but my BIL's brother has had it tough. My BIL had to practically force him to move back here from FL because his health was so bad his care almost nonexistent and his quality of life even worse. Mike kept flying down to help but my sister finally put her foot down and insisted he come home so that he could be cared for and about. Mike has been known to lift his brother and get the chair where it needs to go, but he cannot do it anymore and I cannot be sure Buddy will be there. My sister does not want either one of these guys to be uncomfortable and really was upset when the home they designed fell through. I think if she lets Mike know her plans he can get a ramp built and will make sure that there is enough room to swing those chairs, and they are big. A wheelchair van is on her wish list. What really is awful is that the Sis IL can afford to buy one or to rent one to get these guys to family functions but won't. She always has events in her restaurant but has no concept how difficult it is to help them to get there, makes no attempt to do it and then complains if they can't come or if Mike is late with them.

Hey Y'all!!

We have some good news! Bob had a Consumer Advocate for the state checking into all the issues we were having getting Mario approved to do the remodel. She just called & Mario is now approved!!!!! He won't have to purchase any more insurance!:cool1:

Well, approved to be able to submit a bid to the state anyway! So, now he will have to put together a bid, submit it & wait for the state to approve one of the three bids. It won't really matter whether they choose him or not though. We can choose any of the three state approved bids, but they will probably pick the lowest bid & pay only that amount. This is very good news! :goodvibes

 I guess I'd better start cleaning out those closets & cabinets soon!

Lori, It really came down in Marrero! Didn't last very long but dumped a lot of rain & lots of thunder, knocked out the electricity before I even heard the thunder though!

Wendie, Is that biscuit recipe the same if you make drop biscuits or roll them out?

Sheryl- To make Roll out biscuits just cut the milk to 1/2 cup, everything else is the same though.

Also I am so glad you got some good news on the whole remodeling issues. Dealing with the state agencies is "oh so much fun".......:headache:
 Also it keeps Marrrrio's name around for a bit, lol:cool1:

That's wonderful news Sheryl, I'm so happy for you!:thumbsup2

Thanks Y'all! It is good news!

And Wendie, ;) I'll take pics WHILE the work is being done!!!!

Thanks for the biscuit recipe. I'll try those soon. DH liked the ones I had fixed but I thought they were a bit heavy. I tried using my kitchenaid mixer to mix the dough & think that wasn't neccesary and caused overmixing the dough.

Did anyone else hear about this?! :

On With the (Even Bigger) Show! New Name, More Magic to Transform Disney Theme Park
New Attractions, Experiences at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (Aug. 9, 2007) -- In the Walt Disney World theme park famous for all things Hollywood, it's curtain up on the launch of new attractions, new looks, new breakthrough experiences...

...and a brand-new name.

Disney-MGM Studios will be renamed Disney's Hollywood Studios, effective January 2008, announced Meg Crofton, president of Walt Disney World Resort.

"The new name reflects how the park has grown from representing the golden age of movies to a celebration of the new entertainment that today's Hollywood has to offer -- in music, television, movies and theater," she said.

You just bought into DVC? Did you buy at Saratoga or Animal Kingdom? We were wondering what the new store was all about? Is it an actual store or just a kiosk in the mall?
