Continuing my food report for Kathy:
Day Two:
Breakfast was the aforementioned Krispy Kreme doughnuts in the villa, with DD eating hers in the jacuzzi tub. Like her Mamma, she does like to pretend she is living the high life.
For lunch we stopped at one of our MK favorites, Columbia Harbor House. We arrived shortly after 11:00 and found the place nearly empty. The adults all got the fish baskets, DN got the combo basket with chicken strips and fish, and DD got the chicken strip basket. The fish was wonderful; crisp, hot, and flaky and not at all greasy. DN said the fish was her favorite from the combo as well. DD ate the chicken strips, but in what was to be a recurring theme for her, did not eat any of the fries. I wish I had followed the same diet plan, my hips would have been much better off for it.
Dinner that evening was Concourse Steakhouse. Our reservations were for 7:00, but the kids were starving before then, so we went early to see if they could seat us. When we arrived at 6:00, the host said he wasn't sure when we could be seated, but he gave us a pager which went off approximately 15-20 minutes later. I don't know if it was because we were dining so early in the evening, but the Chef Mickey's noise others have complained about wasn't an issue at all.
The adults all had the pan seared scallops for our appetizers. The dish was served as three medium scallops arranged around some mixed greens with a chili type dressing/sauce. I thought the sauce was a good mixture of flavors that went well with both the scallops and the greens. My only complaint about the dish is a common complaint I have when ordering scallops in restaurants - the scallops had not been properly dried before cooking. This resulted in the scallops having a watery taste which diminished the overall flavor.
The adults also all ordered the Filet Mignon with broccolini and we all substituted the bread salad that was to come with it for mashed potatoes. My filet was cooked perfectly and the gorgonzola butter that topped it was divine, the flavors combining in a way that makes my mouth water at the memory. The mashed potatoes were, well, mashed potatoes. The broccolini was good, if a tad overcooked, but it certainly didn't stop me from eating all of it.
For dessert, DH ordered the creme brulee which he pronounced the "best he has ever had at WDW". This is certainly saying something as on our last trip, I teased him by telling him he was on a creme brulee tour of WDW. SIL ordered the butterfinger cheesecake and I ordered the carrot cake, but we requested them to-go. Well, she forgot her dessert and left it on the table, so I split my carrot cake with her later that evening. The candied pecans were really good and I could have eaten an entire bowl of those. However, the cake itself held a surprise - it was made with coconut, and I really do not like coconut. SIL said she thought it was good, so I'm sure it was if you don't have a coconut aversion like me.
DN ordered the cheese pizza, garden salad, and make your own sundae. She ate one bite of the salad and said she didn't like the dressing. Not sure what it was, and I didn't think to ask. She loved the pizza and ate almost all of it. The ice cream she liked, but thought there should have been more of it. She, in her words, "loves my sweets" and felt that one scoop of ice cream wasn't nearly enough for dessert. BTW, she is tiny - must have the metabolism of a hummingbird.
DD got the cheeseburger with fries and make your own sundae. She wasn't interested in eating anything at all, and she was near the melt down point just before dessert, so I took her out before the ice cream arrived. We got a to-go box for her dinner which she ate about three bites of back at the villa.
