Love the new wallpaper, kind of reminds me of haunted mansion, but fancy

Yes, but it still doesn't take weeks. They had that entry blocked and curtained off. And wallpapering is not noisy. Should have been done way faster. Especially since they've wallpapered almost the entire second floor in the same amount of time.

The rest of the refurbishment is going to take months no matter how quickly they work, so why do they need to move quickly in this one area

I thought I wouldn't like the Grand Floridian because I've been around the Hotel del Coronado my whole life. Turns out I loved going to the Grand Floridian to eat and shop. I LOVE the Cadillac out front. When I told my husband the design was based on the Hotel del, he actually didn't think it was similar besides the red roof.

Grand Floridian Lobby Staircase Blocked, Convention Center Roof Under Construction​

The grand staircase in the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort is now blocked for construction.

Birdcage Bar​

Several crew members were situated around the birdcage bar site on Wednesday morning, and two lifts had been moved into the area. In our last few updates, the bar got a concrete foundation added in the former birdcage area.


The crew appeared to be discussing plans. The foundation itself doesn’t look too different from our previous update. However, the nearby lifts mean crews are gearing up to do some hard-to-reach construction work.

PhotoPass Area​

The PhotoPass area next to M. Mouse Mercantile is still blocked off, but we can see a steel framework against the wall. This wall used to hold backdrops and curtains. Light fixtures on the nearby columns are wrapped in plastic to keep them protected from construction.

Grand Staircase​

The grand staircase facing the center elevators is now closed. Stanchions and construction walls block access at the bottom of the stairs. White curtains block access to the staircase on the second floor.


Visible behind the walls is scaffolding, reaching up to the ceiling and covering a window mural located above the landing.



Another set of white curtains blocks the hallway to the left side of the stairs.

Convention Center Roof Work​

Outside, we caught sight of roof work underway on the resort’s convention center. Crew members in a lift were working atop one of the building’s towers.


More crew members were working on a low section of the building. Shingles are gone from two layers of roof, and the crew were in the process of removing shingles from another layer.

Latest Look at Birdcage Bar Under Construction in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort Lobby

We’ll start our look at the construction site from the second floor before moving to the lobby level to get a better idea of the scale of the new bar.

Disney has previously announced that construction will last through the holiday season. An opening date for the new lobby bar hasn’t been announced.

I wonder where they’ll put the Christmas tree or if they’ll even have the usual tree - it won’t fit in its usual spot if those construction walls stay up. I love staying at the GF during the holidays, but I’m glad I’m not going during Dec. this year, I’d be ok w/ no gingerbread house - but would really miss the tree. When we go late Dec./early Jan. it’s alway a sad day when I wander into the lobby & discover that the tree disappeared overnight!

I've been wondering the same thing. It has to go in the middle between the new bar and the birdcage elevator unless Disney downgrades the height. The chandeliers would be in the way... unless there is also a planned change for those?

I hope the footprint of the bar doesn't impede too much on the location. The framing looks like it will be ok when you compare construction photos with the pink outline where the tree historically goes, but there will be the actual bar overhang, chairs, etc.

If I was to hazard a guess, timing. They normally start construction of the Gingerbread house just as Halloween is ending. The pubished timeline would lead me to believe that there simply is not enough time to get it constructed before the christmas holiday begins.

Good point. I can't find anything official mentioning Thanksgiving anymore, but I feel like that was the estimated completion at one time? I guess the uncertainty or one less month wasn't enough to justify the cost.

Just spent 4 nights in Room 9208 Resort Studio/View
Unexpected bonuses was the pool was quiet in the evening and when we went back to the room we could see fireworks overhead from the balcony and the couch.

Put the TV on channel 70 and voila full experience
Downside is the lack of soundproofing, would probably ask for 5th Floor next time
Also resort was not at capacity and so not checking bands at the pool which was a problem at busiest times getting a lounger
Overheard people who were quite proud of the fact they got in but weren’t staying
The main staircase was closed as carpet getting replaced, meant that smaller staircase was rammed and queues for lifts.
Anyway, I’m now in Jambo Club room and all is well!
