So I have...no NEED to share this story because I am filled with so much Soul Patrol & Taylor love, I could BURST!
After the gym tonight, I stopped at the Wal-Mart closest to work and purchased 5 copies of DIMYP/TITTS (and a few other things which are not really interesting to the story right now...unless you really get excited by rotisserie chicken?

)
I go up to the self-checkout with my few items and ring myself up. The guy at the counter seems really nice, greeting everyone (including me), "how are you tonight ma'am?" "can I help you with anything, sir?" "you have a lovely day now!" etc., etc. So I say to myself - this is your first "Pay it Forward!"
I go up to him and say "Do you know who Taylor Hicks is?"
"No, but I can page him for you?" (Lordy, don't I wish!!)
I laugh, "No, no...he's the newest American Idol!"
"Oh yeah, I think I know him - I don't watch much TV" (Apparently when you work at Wal-Mart you don't watch much TV, as this is the fifth time a Wal-Mart employee has told me this...)
"I want you to have this. But share it. Pay it forward." He looks a little confused. I repeated myself. "I want you to hear who Taylor Hick is!"
After much persuasion, I couldn't get him to accept it, but he promised me he'd go back on his break and get a copy!
Then, he then proceeded to hit on me profusely, of which I would have none (though I was flattered). My heart belongs to Taylor Rueben Hicks.
So with 5 singles still in tow, I pass the greeter who is about the sweetest greeter I've ever met. She was a little older, very Southern, and smelled like "Gone with the Wind." I know that sounds weird, but she just did. I can't explain it. She was collecting money for Children's Hospital and I told her I'd already donated with the nice Cassanova over there, as I pointed to the guy I'd just conversed with. I looked at her and said "I know this will sound weird, but I want to share something with you."
She goes..."Come again, honey?" (Remember, this is being said with a very long southern drawl...)
"Do you know who Taylor Hicks is?" Again, the "no TV excuse." I'm really at a loss for that.
So I show her the CD cover and she recognizes him a bit. I tell her I want to have it, listen to it, share it and pay it forward. She's so tickled over this and so happy, I thought my heart was going to burst. I could imagine her playing "Do I Make You Proud" tonight in her car going home and thinking of how I'd shared this with her.
She had to ask a floor manager if it was okay to accept, and I reminded her again, "share it." She nodded, looked down at the cover and said "oh yes, he's FINE..." I laughed. She gave me a big hug and I walked off, telling her to enjoy it. She had the biggest smile on her face.
So I had 4 more to dispense. I had three in mind for tomorrow at work, so I thought I would share one with the nice lady I often see at the Sunoco station on my way home. She's always so nice and sweet and doesn't really get appreciated for what a hard job she has and how some people can treat her. So I buy a bottle of Diet Mt. Dew to have something to be in line for and have the CD in my purse. I'm nearly jumping up and down because I'm so excited to give this gift of Taylor to her. So I get up in line, smile and say "Hello...I have a gift for you!"
She looks confused. I lay the CD down on the counter and explain to her how she's really so nice to everyone and how she always makes me smile when I'm in here and that not enough people appreciate her. I tell her I want her to have this and share it. "Pay it forward." I've never seen her smile so big.
I have some more to give out tomorrow, so this joy will continue. But I had to share my story and see if anyone out there has stories similar that we can share with one another.
I love Taylor and the Soul Patrol so much! I cannot explain to you the feeling I got today doing this simple act. I hope more people can pay Taylor forward.
