The Official T-Rex Cafe Thread!

Anyone there or recently back? Just curious if you know how long the wait is to be seated once checking in??

Has anyone eaten at the T-Rex restaurant? Where exactly at DTD is it located? I am thinking of taking my 6-year old grandson. What are your thoughts on this new restaurant. Is it worth a trip to DTD just to eat here?

Any word on if they plan on keeping it line up only or will be handing out pagers? We're going in November and the kids would LOVE this, but I know they won't like waiting in a line.

TIA

We walked by around 4pm today to meet some friends and it there was a line of about 20 people just to put their name in. I'm not sure after that step how long the wait was before people were seated, but a lot of people were crowding the area and sitting where they could. As the night progressed the line got longer and the area was very clogged. We wanted to go but decided to wait until another day.

Edit: they were announcing party names very loudly when it was time to be seated, we could hear coming over the bridge from the Fulton area.

DD12 and I ate lunch at T-Rex yesterday right after they opened. We ate at the bar instead of waiting in line. the line was fairly long but they had just opened and were busy seating people. We both loved the place and can't wait to go back in November. Our meals were good, she had the steak and I had the fried shrimp. Service was excellent. The man next to me ordered a cottontini which looked very yummy. They put cotton candy in a martini glass and poured the drink on top dissolving the cotton candy. They also had a Caveman punch that I was told was very good. I wasn't able sample any adult beverages this time since I had to drive back home. They also had a slushy drink for kids in a cool take home leg bone cup. It was about 12" long and cost $4.99. The place is a little pricey, but I think worth it just for the atmosphere. We are going in November with a group of 9 including 4 kids. I can't wait until everyone else can experience the place.

We left around 2:00pm on Saturday and I overheard the hostess tell someone there was a 20 min wait. We didn't wait because we ate at the bar.

Thanks Lori! A leg bone cup. What novelty. My kids will LOVE that!!!

We ate at T-Rex on the Oct 14th the first night open. We arrived at DTD around 6:40 p.m. and got in line, an hour later we were seated in the green area. Both DS's 14 & 9 thought it was a very cool place but wanted to be seated in the ice area. Everyone thought the food was very good however it was around 8 p.m. when we got our food and were all very hungery. DS 9 had the pizza DS 14 had pasta stuffed with mushrooms, I had philly and I can't recall what DW ate. We did have the choc desert with ice cream which was wonderful. Can't remember the name but it's T-Rex version of the Valcano.

They had indicated it would be all walk up until Jan 5th, 2009 then they would have ADR. Also, discounts will be availalbe with your RF cafe card at that time.

A good friend lives in Celebration and ate there Tuesday. Said the menu is less extensive than RFC but that is a GOOD thing. Over half the giftshop area is a "build a dinosaur" type attraction. Great environment and animatronics. Not included in any DDP or DDE at this time; hopefully it will be when we go in June as we do the DDE. Be prepared for long waits with
ADRs a must. Sounds like a winner!

My 8 yr. old dd and I went today. Got in line around 10:45 were about 30-40 people in front of us. Started seating people at 11:10, we were sitting by 11:20.

I don't know if we just had bad luck or not but we had a series of mishaps. At first check in I asked for the ice room (read on a forum), she said no problem. But the seater brought us to an outer room. He seemed baffled when I pointed out that the seating reciept said "ice room", he was very hesitant to change us. I knew there was plenty of room, but he finally let us sit in the ice room, which only had 4 or 5 other families and one I recognize was behind me in line.
Took twenty minutes before anyone came over even for drink orders, whereas the families all us had gotten drinks and were even having soup.
Never offered fancy drinks for kids. My dd actually saw a light up and asked about it. I ordered two drinks in the light up cup. Both drinks came in regular cup. Waited another 10 minutes for correct drinks.:goodvibes

Took forever to come after we finished our meal, she came with the check. I said dd would like dessert. She flustered and said another waitress said we were ready for our check. I never said anything to anyone I just think someone told her we were finished because we sat there so long.

It was still fun. Loved the Coral, ice and the room behind the ice room.
Food was o.k. I had Salmon salad which I liked alot. DD had pizza and tomato soup. Tomato soup not too good. Pizza was kids pizza, but dd said it was cool (not hot). The table next to us sent back their Mozzerrella sticks I think I heard her say they were cold. They came back very soon (not our waitress) with a new tray and the lady ate them all so I guess they were good.

We had a good time, even with mishaps, which were a little annoying when your spending $55 on 1 adult and 1 child for lunch, not to mention the gift shop spending:rolleyes: . I Even gave the girl an 18 % figuring it was her first week.

They took our Disney rewards dollars (not sure of official name)
dd had fun in the sand part also.

Let's just hope that they are just working out the kinks , Can't wait to go.:worship: they have 4 months to get it right. :worship: :worship:

We visited TREX yesterday morning when they opened. My wife and I are fans of the Rainforest Cafe and eat there at least once every other month. We wanted to try TREX and compare. First, the menu is a bit more limited than RFC, but there were plenty of choices still for everyone in our party of 7. I had a burger and found it to be very good. My wife and sister had a Tortellini (sp?) dish and both seemed to enjoy it. My dad had a shrimp plate and he had no complaints but the star of the table was the Rotisserie chicken ordered by the other 3 party members. It was excellent!! So we were all impressed by the food. Oh yeah, we also had two orders of cheese sticks and they were good also. Nothing great, just basic cheese sticks...The place is a visual masterpiece. There is so much to look at and it is all amazing. We were in the ice room and it was wonderful. I can't comment more positively on the look of the place..... Now the downside, it is LOUDDDD. Like I said, my wife and I do RFC a lot and we thought TREX was much much louder. Every 15 minutes or so, their is a storm and the dinosaurs start screaming and screeching. When this is going on, just forget about talking to anyone at your table for a good minute or so, you can't do it. The first time this happened it was kind of cool but it gets old REAL quick!! That was the only major negative for us. The service was a little slow but I will chalk that up to being a new restaurant, and it wasn't that bad. Server was nice but nothing special. Just did his job.....Overall, I am glad I did TREX once and experienced it. And I would recommend everyone trying it, but I think we will stick with RFC if we had the choice. A bit more choices on the menu and not nearly as loud, which is saying something. Give it a try though. We will again I'm sure once the crowds die down a bit.

Bummer I was hoping the RF Cafe card would help bypass the long lines for waiting to be seated! We want to try this after Cirque next time but might have to settle for the rainforest cafe if the lines are too long.

the annual pass holder discount will become available as well

Did you use the rewards dollars from your Disney Visa? We are staying offsite and I was wondering if they would accept these.
Thanks!

I'm pretty sure they will accept the Disney Visa reward dollars. It was explained to me one time by a manager at the McDonalds at DD Disney that all restaurants/shops on Disney property will (have to) accept Disney Dollars/Disney Visa Rewards/Disney Gift Cards. Please understand I'm not saying I saw in writing somewhere as actual official Disney policy, I'm simply repeating information I was given.

I have a question regarding the "walk up" policy. We are going to be there over Christmas, say we want to eat there Christmas Eve, probably a really long and wait, maybe even 2 hours or more.
Do I have to stand there for 2 hours?:confused3

I just came across a post mentioning this restaurant. I have never heard of it. It states on the website that it is located in the Marketplace. I would like to learn more about this place as my kids would probably love it. Any thoughts?
