Request the first or third foor, if you'd like...

You might not get it, but it can't hurt to ask... also ask at check in...

Ok 6 months away and I'm getting very excited to be staying at the Poly.
It has taken me a while to warm up to staying here and i've been asking lots of questions of everyone but I really am getting excited now!!!!
I think we are going to really enjoy staying here.

I just got back! I love this resort, but the housekeeping needs improvement. One of my pillowcases was filthy, so I left it separate, dirty side up so the maid would see it. When I came back it hadn't been changed. One day they took away a roll of TP that was getting low, but didn't replace it with a new one, and left the holder disassembled. The bathroom floor needed to be cleaned, and there was some substance, like dried up chocolate milk encrusted on the desk from the day we checked in til the day we left (I nearly cleaned it myself, but I wanted to see how long it would take them to do it.. turns out the answer was never).

We kept accusing each other of leaving the refridgerator door open, but after both of us making sure it was shut before we left one day, we came back and it was open again.. we realized it was the maid who was doing it! I left a note inside of it asking them to make sure the door was completely closed, and we didn't have the problem again. Does anyone know if they have a reason for doing that, or was he/she just being nosy? Kind of annoying, because we had milk in there, and we weren't going to drink it after it hadn't been properly refridgerated.

It wasn't bad enough to stop me from staying there again, but it did make me stop tipping after the 3rd day.

I am sorry the housekeeping was not up to par, did you log any of this with the poly? I would definitely tell them since this seems to be coming up more often now. I had read here that the fridge area tends to get a lot of condensation under/around it and someone here suggested that one should keep the door to the fridge cabinet open to allow air to circulate. I wonder if the mousekeepers know this and are doing that now?

LOL! That was pretty much my rationale as well. :lmao: My raise and my bonus are going to Disney for Christmas at the Poly.

I'm probably a bad influence on ya but we LOVED doing the MVMCP/Poly for December last year. So much that while we're looking forward to staying at the AKL for Christmas this year, we're really missing the Poly. I'm going to miss hearing the lovely Hawaiian christmas music piped through the grounds.

I thought that's what my raise and bonus goes for each year? You're saying it's not?? :goodvibes

I will say that I hope we get good housekeeping. It seems to differ so much at the Poly from what I read. Seems like maybe there are a few there that really aren't doing a great job and then others who are .

I'm thrilled to find this thread but I have to say I'm almost overwhelmed by how much information there is and how knowledgeable and experienced most of you are. I'm still trying to figure out all the acronyms! Are you willing to help out a total neophyte?

My husband and I are making our first trip in 10 years to DW December 3-8 with our 4 year old little girl. We are staying at The Poly the first three nights and then transferring to AKL for the last 2 nights. I'd love ANY and ALL recommendations and any input to the following questions:

** Our reservation is for a Garden View Room - are we able to request a particular room? If so, any particular recommendations?

** Are upgrades ever available? We should arrive at the resort at 11:30am.

** Any idea why the hotels are so fully booked the first week of December? We made these reservations a month ago and barely were able to get a room. I thought things would be farily quiet after Thanksgiving but before the Christmas rush.

I really would welcome ANY advice so that we can be prepared and truly make this a magical and perfect trip for our little princess!!

Thanks!

No, I didn't complain. I'm not sure if I will. I think not tipping was sufficient. It wasn't the cabinet that was left open but the refridgerator door itself. We didn't notice any condensation, but we did tend to leave the door adjar because the fridge wasn't getting cold, and we thought the heat in the cabinet might be effecting it. Turns out we just needed to crank the temperature control up all the way, and get the maid to leave the door closed. :>

and Welcome to the Polynesian FAQ! Try not to let yourself become too overwhelmed that you fail to enjoy the experience of staying at our favorite resort! I'll take a stab at answering some of your questions, but be aware, it is only my opinion and everyone will likely have another as well. None of us know what will truly be best for you and your family.

Our reservation is for a Garden View Room - are we able to request a particular room? If so, any particular recommendations?

You are able to "request" anything you would like, but the odds of having your request granted gets slimmer when your "request" becomes too precise. You would be better off requesting a specific longhouse or area of the resort rather than a specific room. For example, if you would like to be closer to the two pools and yet still close to the Great Ceremonial House (GCH), you would request either the Samoa or Nuie longhouses (there are others that are also close, but these are my examples).

Personally, and I know it is also a favorite with many who have stayed at the Polynesian, I would choose Tokelau because it is fairly central within the resort, i.e., near the bus stop, quiet pool, beach, on the way to TTC, yet still near the Great Ceremonial House which houses Captain Cook's, 'Ohana, and Kona Cafe as well as the gift shops, check-in, and the all important monorail station. Trust me, there are benefits to just about all of the longhouses and I wouldn't stress over it.

Are upgrades ever available? We should arrive at the resort at 11:30am.

Many people have posted that they have been blessed with upgrades. It would appear that your week will be fairly busy and you may or may not be the lucky recipient of an upgrade. It is really up to the Tiki Gods (otherwise known as the room assignor or check-in CM) whether or not that particular blessing will be bestowed upon you. Chances are, if the resort is exceptionally full, the upgrades will be fewer--then again, one cannot predict what may happen for you.

There is also the possibility that you could arrange a "paid" upgrade. You can certainly inquire upon check-in about availability and the cost associated with such an upgrade. Sometimes that upgrade rate is discounted. Again, it sounds as if your time frame is already pretty busy and they may not have availability to offer.

Any idea why the hotels are so fully booked the first week of December? We made these reservations a month ago and barely were able to get a room. I thought things would be farily quiet after Thanksgiving but before the Christmas rush.

Not really, but I know it has been a very busy "Year of a Million Dreams" at Disney. We were there in July and it was exceptionally busy at the Resort and in the parks. It would seem that tourism is up in general and exceedingly so at WDW.

Advice

As I said, try not to get too wrapped up in getting the right building, room, etc.--you're already staying at one of the best resorts on property. :woohoo: Take time to enjoy it!

Don't sweat the little things and if you find the room or service not up to standards, be sure to politely share that information with the powers that be--no one on the boards can effectuate a change in a resort. The management can, but can only do so IF they are made aware.

Make the most of the magic! :thumbsup2 That's what it's all about anyway! Feel free to ask questions, as I mentioned, we're all pretty full of opinions! :rotfl:

We took our DD last fall when she was 4 and we all LOVED it. She absolutely LOVED LOVED the theming and everything about it.

We had a room on the first floor in FIJI on the cove side (that was my request, verbatim, and I got it.) In those rooms you are a few steps from Luau Cove beach, there is a swing and hammock and chairs right there, and you have a patio. The music from the Luau show never bothered us.

Some fun things to do: get into jammies and then watch the Electric Water Pageant and Wishes from the dock with a nice snack and maybe drinks (well for you!-- have your husband fetch the libations while you bathe and change your DD!)

take the boat to MK whenever feasible!

Be sure to ask to ride up front in the monorail!

We enjoyed having room service breakfast the last day on our patio...

Christmas parade is being filmed first weekend of Dec...

Pop Warner Football/cheerleading champs. are at All star Sports... (but they stay at the All stars resorts and Port Orleans Riverside (POR)

MVMCP

But just because the resorts are sold out doesn't mean it will be overly crowded... It will clear out after the parade is done - the crew stays near the mk also...

Being on the Monorail and having the boat are the best for WDW... you will love it!!! - especially if you take a break in the middle of the day.

I like Fiji, but that's just me.

The Poly is VERY relaxing!!! You will Love it!!!

We are considering a 12 nt stay at the Polynesian next August and wondered if there are many interconnecting rooms?

Did anyone prefer specific things at the Poly over the GF?

We really enjoyed the GF but its full for 2nights of our trip and we liked the idea of being able to walk from the Poly to the TTC to get to Epcot easily.

Would anybody know what the Special Reservations (disability access) CM meant when she said we were going to be in "Building 7" ? She said these were very recently renovated to be wheelchair access. bathrooms, and it's not Rapa Nui, which used to be the only building with those baths. I don't know why she couldn't come up with the name of the longhouse....:confused3

Read on another site that some rooms in Tokelau were being renovated to Access rooms, but do not know the building number. Funny, how Disney does not use the longhouse names, but building - not much magic there!

If it is Tokekau it is a wonderful building and location!

"Building 7" is Nuie. That means your room will be either 1702 or 1703 (1= first floor, 7= Nuie, 02/03 = room numbers).

They are in a great location IMHO :thumbsup2

Not sure how many but I do know that our room in Samoa in August did have a door to 'connect' to another room. The room was 1609.

A few. :) First off, the monorail and the bus stops at the Polynesian before continuing on to the GF. Second, you can walk to the TTC to get to EPCOT. Third, Kona Coffee!!!!   I'm a coffee addict and most of the coffe in the World is awful. Kona Island is a great stop to grab your morning Kona coffee before heading out to the monorail platform.

I loved this as well and it was great to have this option.

You'll love the Poly! :thumbsup2

I concur. From Nuie, you come out next to the Laobby or next to the main pool. Very easy to get all over the resort from here. We had a first floor with a very nice outdoor porch with chairs.

Enjoy,

We'll be staying at the Polynesian for the first time in 50 days! Woo-hoo!
Anyway, I was just curious which building the laundry machines are in?

Thank you

The laundry room is in the building that houses the Neverland Club as well as Tangaroa Terrace which is just used for private functions. It is on the parking lot side of that building and very close to the bus stop and the Eastern door of Raratonga.
