We had exactly that building-- Tokelau, 3rd floor, quiet pool side. I found it extremely convenient--to GCH, to the parking lot, to the bus stop, to the TTC... and we could see the castle from our balcony. :)
The rooms were HUGE btw.
When I get my trip report up I'll post some pictures.

Wow, great advice, thanks! Tokelau sounds good, a bigger room will help a lot - especially with bringing a double stroller along with the packnplay and all the other gear. I like being near a pool. I won't swim if the weather is cool, but I know DH will and so will my older child. We are Canadian, after all. :teeth:

Well I am back from the Polynesian with a few discs full of photos, information from many of the CMs, and even spent about 5 hours one day gathering up info, touring the suites and gathering info with the help of the staff. I won’t be posting the report here because I have been warned to be careful what I mention on the DIS so anyone that wanted to read the report in a few days can get it from my mailing list. I need a few days to get all the info together. It is the most info I have ever gotten in one visit so it will take a while.

I also want to say thank you to all the great people I met on the DIS. I will be moving on from the DIS for reasons I will not discuss here but it has been an enjoyable experience and I have meet many great people through these forums.

I can’t post where to go to my site but I am sure you can find it if you really want to.

With that I will say ALOHA

Steve

Steve,

We must have crossed paths. We just go back from the Polynesian yesterday. Sorry to hear you've been Dissed by the DIS people. I wanted to join everyone in a big Mahalo and Aloha.

I'll be checking in over at your site.

Thanks again,

Maz :joker:

We returned this past week-end from an 8 night stay at the Poly. At first I was very disappointed in our room in Fiji (3311---end room) as I had requested Tokelau. The advance check-in gal was rather rude and abrupt when we checked in (around 3 pm---there were no lines). When I asked about Tokelau she said "well your room is already assigned, we can't change it". We found Fiji to be rather old looking and the hallways rundown. The elevator had a really disgusting smell. BUT....after just a day or two at the Poly, I began to fall in love with the simple elegance of the place and the convenience. (Figured we were staying at a "Deluxe" not for the fancy accomodations but for location, location, location!). Our end room was very quiet (overlooking the marina) and the room was quite comfortable if not exactly deluxe caliber. The elevator smell (sort of like a dirty diaper?) never really went away.
The convenience of the GCH with Capt. Cook's, Kona, the shops and the monorail was terrific. Had to run back to our room several times for forgotten items and the closeness was great. Our very best meal was an evening at O'hana's with the fireworks occuring just as the scrumptious dessert arrived! Several evenings we walked the beach and watched the boat parade and saw the fireworks from MK and MVMCP. (last night 12/7 was rather chilly!)

The third night of our stay (as we were growing fonder of the Polynesian) we asked if there were any rooms available for the 7th (there weren't when we booked and our last night was to be at Pop Century). Again we encountered a rather rude, abrupt CM who said "we are overbooked as it is, no chance!" (this was after he looked up our ressie--we were a AAA code...have to wonder if that made a difference.) Two nights later we decided to ask again and this time a very pleasant gal said "I'll check" and came back with the extra night available. (Strange how they need to go in a back room, behind a hidden door, to find the availability.)

We did find the breakfasts at Capt. Cook's rather unpalatable---neither the eggs or the Mickey waffle had much taste. The breakfasts at Kona's were much nicer---although pricey (eggs cooked better and the blueberry pancakes-delish!). We were on the go so much we never ate lunch or dinner in either place (and after the first week-end the evenings were so cold I never got my Dole Whip....will just have to go back!).

Overall I would rate the Polynesian with a B+....great location with monorail ease, okay room but not high quality---maybe 3 stars ( have stayed at nice Holiday inns that were better). Food= Capt Cook-C, Kona-B+, Ohana-A.

We really had a great time this trip ---don't know when I'll ever be able to convince hubby to go again. But if I do, I would save my pennies to stay at a monorail resort again!

Where is the best place to find some decent resolution Pictures of Poly? I am planning this trip as a surprise gift and would like to include some nice photos :)

Hi, just wanted to post to all the people going to the poly...I have to say that I was a bit let down on this trip. I love the poly I got married there three years ago and I was so looking forward to it. But, when I got there they didn't have the rooms that I had wanted not even close and where not about to be helpful about it. I thought that with the renovations that it would be a bit brighter there and it just didn't seem as though much was really done it is so dark. But the it is so close to everything that is the best part of it and I got over most of it fast. I didn't get any towel animals and I even tipped well the whole time so that was a bit of a let down they are also kind of slow on getting the rooms done there where times when I got back to the room at 2pm or later and the room was not done. I visited wilderness lodge and animal kingdom lodge and will have to say that I will stay there next time or the Grand I need a nice place when I get back from all day at the park and the poly just didn't do that for me anymore.

I was disappointed as well with our first stay there from 12/9-12/12. In short, loved the rooms and grounds, but the service from maintenance, housekeeping, and management was really awful and inexcusable. DH and I will NOT be staying here again. I will try to post a resort report in another thread detailing the pros and cons of our stay at the Poly.

Thanks to Tikiman for his wonderful site and help. I will miss you here :guilty: .

Someone from the DIS was in room 1301, I believe, in Figi during our stay from 12/9-12/12. The was a lime green Mickey Head on the door. I wanted to knock and say HI, but felt funny doing it. Was it anyone from this thread??

:wave2:

We also had trouble with housekeeping even though we tipped well each day.

Only 2 towel animals by one housekeeper we happened to meet in person (even though we requested turn down service), and on the other days the room was not finished by 3:00 (just as the above person stated). My mother said that at least on one occassion the floor was not mopped.

When we complained (for the second time) about the room being done late, we were told that we could have requested "early room cleaning", but as we were leaving the next day it was too late for us. But I hope that helps someone else.

We were there from 12/2-12/11 (Rarotonga) and didn't have any problems with housekeeping. We had towel animals when we checked in but that was the only days for that. I still felt something was missing though and didn't like the Poly as much as I thought I would. I can't place my finger on why though.

Sorry to hear about your stay. I wanted to sayt that in my twice a year trips to the Poly for the last 7 years we have only gotten towel animals once. We tip $5 a day but never got them and really never expected them. We tipped for good housekeeping service and nothing more. I certainly wouldn't complain about that. As far as rooms go we get our requests met maybe 25% of the time. Because we know they are only requests we don't set ourselves up for a letdown if we don't get the room we want. We also request our room cleaned between noon and 3pm. That has always worked well for us and the mousekeepers were more then happy with our request. I have stayed at the Poly both pre and after renovations and there is just no comparison. It is so much brighter then ever. Stay at the WL if you want to see what a real dark room looks like. I think after all the letdowns you suffered at the Poly is nothing compared to what you might experience at the WL. Tiny dark rooms, undersized pool, horrible transportation. We did get towel animals every day during our stay at the WL but they just weren't worth the other stuff we had to put up with during our stay.

We stayed at the Poly Dec 2-6 and just loved the view from our room!! We had a magic kingdom view ( RM 3406) in Tuvalu, it was just great!!Captain Cooks food was good and I had my first dole whip, I loved it, my 2 yr old hated it,lol.

We were there on a free trip I won from McDonalds. Have huge delays in our flight and connection issues we were exhausted when we got there at 4pm. I was in line by myself to check in, but everyone was busy and I ended up waiting 20 minutes before being helped. I was checked in by a rather abrupt/rude younger man who honestly acted as if I had the plague. We didnt get lei's
, warm welcomes, luggage assistance or anything. Just a map with a circle around Tuvalu with our room number on it.No directions.

So off we go, we got turned around and lost and finally a guest helped us get to our room. We were originally given 2409, pretty room, non smoking and we are smokers, but the room was dirty!!!!! little bits of toilet paper and hair on the bathroom floor, spots all over the mirrors and tub had hair and scum in it. I called down and got a really nice CM Sheila who got us another room right away. Said we should have never been placed there anyway, there was a smoking request on our ressie and they were actually short non smoking rooms. SO back on my extremely tired feet I go to get the new keys and we move ALL our stuff up another floor to our room.We had two babies,a double stroller, a carry on, a diaper bag, camera bag,and the box I shipped down which was given to me when we checked. A little help would have been nice.... (Btw there was a towel animal in the original room- we left it there, never received one at while at Poly but did get one at Pop).
Tuvalu had advantages and disadvantages. Our view was spectacular, couldnt beat it. But the drawbacks- luau was very loud at night, its quite a walk to the volcano Pool.

I do want to make one comment- if this long house has been recently renovated they need to get on housekeepings behind. The elevator was dirty all 4 days we were there--evidently they dont wipe the inside down, you could see the same smeary handprint on the door the whole time and the corners of the elevators were dusty/dirty.They also must have gotten paint on several spots on the carpeting throughout the building and was never cleaned up.The whole building seem to have a musty/moldy smell. Maybe I just expected a bit more considering what they charge for the room??

We were sad to leave when we changed over to Pop Century. Staying on a monorail resort was great, we loved the convinence
and I loved the pool and Bar area ( Lava flows are the best, oh my gosh....) but maybe I just had built it up too much in my head from the reports I read here. We didnt get a great welcome, honestly more staff seemed rude than helpful- like people were bothering them-the lack of Chrsitmas decorations was obvious- and it just didnt seem to have the "magic" everyone associated with it. Maybe I was just there at a bad time. I do have to say though, we really loved the view from our patio-I would never pay $450 a night ffor it, but it was nice while we had it!

I iwll do a dining review but I do have to say though,O'Hana's was a huge letdown. Maybe it was just the lack of service or the fact we were placed as far back as you can possibly go ( basically in the hallway) and the food was..just disappointing for the cost involved.

Steve, Just booked a stay at the Poly for next August. I've relied on your website to help me make my decision and I will conitnue to utilize it in planning my trip to the Poly.

I'll be looking to your website for the BEST info on the Poly.

I have been away from these boards for about 5 or 6 months. Can someone please tell be what happened to Tikiman? He is not longer "allowed on these boards"? :confused3 I don't understand. Please enlighten me.

Also, how do I get on Tikiman's "mailing list"?

Pat

PS: Hi Steve!

It's not that he's not allowed -- he just chose to leave for personal reasons. You can get on his mailing list by signing up on his webpage:

I also wanted to say that it makes me sad to hear about all these disappointing experiences at the Poly!! We've stayed there 3 times, most recently in October, and while we LOVE the resort itself, the staff really does leave a lot to be desired. We've noticed this on all 3 trips, unfortunately.

I keep telling my dh if we could find a resort with the atmosphere of the Poly and the wonderful "pampering" we received at the Grand Floridian, it would be heaven! ;) As it is now, we have to choose between atmosphere and good service -- not a happy choice to have to make when you're spending upwards of $400/night!!

Wow... we just got back from the Poly 2 weeks ago and had a wonderful time! We had no problems with the staff and no problems with mousekeeping. thought the rooms were very nice and we loved the new decor! i was hoping to have a trip report (with pix) up before the holidays, but I don't know if that will happen... i'll try soon! gotta get some good recent reviews of the Poly up!

You People Have Me Worried!

I convinced DD to stay at the Poly instead of CR!

Oh Well! I've done the early check in and will see what happens this weekend!

Just got back from our stay at the Poly....and  I'm still on the fence. I really don't know if I would return or not. But then the entire park was not that exciting anymore. The people were rude (money can't buy class), the food was bad and over priced. The Christmas spirit just was not their this time. Glad to be home. :thumbsup2

I just returned from a weekend trip to the Poly, and it was AMAZING! We did the advance check-in 10 days out and everything went smoothly (even though we didnt book through Disney). I made sure they knbew I was having packages sent and I asked for certain things, such as 3rd floor Samoa, but I didnt get my request. I got upgraded to concierge!!! We got to stay in the Hawaii building and it was so cool, and totally unexpected. When we checked in, we went to an empty Advance Check-in line, a woman gave us our booklet (and, like, 20 packages), and told us we had been upgraded. I was beside myself, and absolutely shocked. We had room 3524 and had a view of the quiet pool.

The rain held off the whole weekend and we had a fantastic time. The sold out MVMCP was really fun, and although we had planned to shop the rest of the weekend we got to go to Epcot and MGM. I miss it so much and I am having post-disney depression.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Congratulations, what a wonderful upgrade. Glad to hear you had a good experience at the Polynesian. I would love an upgrade when we get there but if don't it's ok, we'll just be thrilled with a standard room. Thanks for the report. :)
