I don't think I asked this before, and it is a minor issue, but what is up with the level of the shower head in the Niue rooms? I am 6 feet tall and the shower head was at neck level. Meaning the water came out and hit my chest.

It did not look like a room for those with special needs. No other modifcations were seen. Is this the same in all of the rooms?

Also, my IBM T30 Thinkpad fit with room to spare in our room safe. I remember that being a question a couple months ago.

Yeah, I don't know what they were thinking with those shower heads!! We were in Hawaii and my poor dh (6'3") had a terrible time with them. I cannot imagine why they made them so low!

We also were able to fit our laptop in the new safes. That was very nice! :thumbsup2

I read about someone doing advanced check-in at the Poly. How do you do this and is there an advantage to doing so? We are staying there later in January and are really looking forward to it. I want to do all possible to make sure things go smoothly.

Any advice is appreciated.

Can anyone here tell me where that Tikiman's Poly website is? :goodvibes
Thank~you

Aloha,

Another quick observation as I was going over pictures of the recent trip. Did you know that you can plug your mp3 player into the radio alarm clock at the Polynesian?(I'm sure other hotels also)

I was able to wake the family up to 'Disneyland' by Five for Fighting every day.

"There I was somewhere West of Tomorrowland, Flying through the Stars like Peter Pan...Everybody's got a little House, a Dog, a bank account managed by Mickey Mouse...It's a nice day when you wake-up in Disney Land"

We are in the process of planning our next Disney vacation. So far, we have stayed off site and at the Pop Century. We aren't for sure when we'll be able to go, but it will be sometime in 2008. 2008 is a big year for us...DH and I will both turn 40 (shhhhhhh) , DS1 will become a teenager, DS2 will turn 10 (double digits), and DH and I will celebrate our 15th anniversary! Any way, long story short, I think I have DH talked into trying Poly. He is a smoker. If I request a LV and smoking what longhouses are my options? I would love a Disney View, but figure lagoon view wouldn't be bad either. Just trying to figure out what buildings we be in. TIA

Tikiman's site has all the info on which rooms are smoking, LV, etc:
http://www.tikiman2001.net/

I do know the smoking optional longhouses are:
Tuvalu (3rd floor)
Niue (all)
Tahiti (smoking: half 2nd floor east end 029-048)
These are concierge smoking:
Hawaii (3511-3526)
Tonga (suites)

Benn, sorry didn't see this one before. We haven't always received that package which is a questionnaire about your plans, things you would like booked, etc. But when we have it usually arrives in short order after booking. Sometimes it has been an email rather than paper.

But if you happened to book through a travel agent, you might not receive anything. If you don't hear from them soon, I would email them yourself.

We've loved the MK view from every room we've had. I would just request a floor if that matters to you and let the magic work. Happy planning!

We booked it through DVC - I found an e-mail address somewhere on these boards that apparently goes directly to the Concierge part of the Poly, so I'll give that a go soon - I' 'll let them recover from Xmas first!

We are in planning mode for a trip this fall. Since deciding to go we have planned to stay at #1 ASMo then decided to go for a mod #2 CBR. Then I was wondering if I could talk DH into WL since it is cheaper than the other deluxes. Then I discovered tikiman's website!:rotfl2: We are going to use income tax refund to pay for the trip so I'm hoping I can talk DH into the Poly. A lot will depend on whether they offer free dining again. I think I will book Poly and pay for most of the room. Later on when we see if they do the free DDP we will make a final decision. One question I haven't seen answered which may be kind of important to us is if they have a playground anywhere? Another thing I was wondering is if the coffee in the rooms is the same yucky stuff they supposedly have everywhere else? Thanks folks!!!

No playground. Same yucky coffee in the rooms. Kona is convenient but can get expensive. So far, only our stay at the Swan last month with the refillable mugs from Picabu serving Starbuck's has resulted in a ready supply of okay coffee without breaking the bank per cup. :coffee:

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I can bring my own coffee and I'm sure the kids can have enough fun in the sand and pool. One more question I thought of-can you take your children into the lounges. I'd love to have drinks before dinner, but with 2 little ones they would have to be with us. It wouldn't be late at night or anything. If they aren't allowed, can you get drinks to go? Thanks again.

you can bring your own Starbucks from home and make it in the pot. That is what we did in 2005 and believe you me...wish we would have done this in 2006 because we bought Kona coffee every day! Now...coffee is one thing but then the kids wanted this or that and gotta have a mocha, and blah blah...we never left the Kona Isle without spending 20 bucks on coffee and muffins. (Not a lot of muffins either!!)

p.s. I prebagged my coffee in sandwich bags for daily use and put them in my carry on luggage...

I also packed cereal and juice boxes in the checked luggage in 2005. I did not in 2006, therefore creating way more OOP expense than necessary ;)

kids can be in the lounges yes and at the pool bar too btw...

DIsfan: We are going to the Poly next week and my DS is meeting us there. He is packing his Kuerig and we have already sent the coffee to him. I also do not want the coffee supplied there, but we are huge coffee drinkers so this will help. My family will spend enough on the pressed Kona coffee that I want to save here.

um...yeah...now that I do the math:

8 days X 20 bucks= 160 dollars for coffee and one or two muffins per day....

YIKES. :rotfl:

Hey Paula68, had to laugh at the similarities here...

DH and I take the family this November for Thanksgiving--the trip is to celebrate our 40ths (exactly 1 month apart), my DD turns 13 just before the trip, it will be our 17th anniversary and I am NOT going to spend my usual 2+ weeks in Springfield, IL in August (hot, hot,hot...:sunny: ) since we will meet with my cousin and her family (from Sfld) in WDW.

TiggerAllie answered the smoking question--so just have fun! And have a Happy 40th when you get to 2008!

Another coffee question - does anyone know whether the coffee in the concierge lounge in Hawaii is the good stuff or yucky too? Thanks!

The lounge is right outsid of O'hana and your kids can certainly hang out with you. There's was a TV set up but it had CNN so you might want to bring something to keep them entertained. (toys, books etc). I would also think you could order them their own virgin cocktail. A lapu lapu is served in a whole pineapple. That might keep them entertained for a little while. At least that my plan with my DS2. We'll be there Jan 18 - only 7 days!!!

You can also take your drink anywhere with you within the resort. A cheaper way to go, if you drink beer or wine is to get it from the store on the same floor as the lounge. But for a cocktail, the lounge is the place to go.
