I am so excited!! I just booked a land-and-sea cruise through AAA. January is Disney month at AAA, so I got a GREAT deal. I usually stay only in value resorts (financial reasons) when I go to Disney, but because of AAA's deal, I upgraded to the Polynesian for the land portion. It's not until December (bummer). I seriously don't know how I'm going to last 11 more months!!!!!

Hi, all!! We are going to WDW for spring break the end of March. Staying a week at the GF and recently changed our flights to add extra nights on so we can stay at the Poly GVC for 3 nights.

I just read a post about the Volcano pool being down for a new pool deck!!

Does anybody know about that and when it will be completed?? I may be panicking, as our trip is 2 months away, but I have no idea how long they will be working on that pool. The post I read made it sound like a major project with brown barricades around it etc. I would rather stay at another resort (sorry) if the pool won't be in working condition during our stay. Those brown barricades just kind of kill the atmosphere. I feel like I need to make our arrangements soon if we need to stay somewhere else. I will be disappointed and so will my daughters, but I would rather know ahead of time than be disappointed when we arrive.

We are expected to arrive on 2/11/06 and I have emailed the concierge to find out how long the pool is scheduled to be down for rehab. I will reply as soon as I hear from the Poly.

This was never mentioned to us. Unfortunately, for us even if we wanted to change resorts now do to the pool rehab all other hotels are completely booked.

LinnieMinnie2 - I am SO SORRY about this pool problem and your trip approaching so soon. I will keep my fingers crossed that it all works out for your trip. Our trip isn't until March, but I am worried now. I will definitely change resorts if the pool won't be functioning. I was looking forward to the Poly, but that pool construction would be a big bummer. Please let us know when you know something.

Hi! I'll be there from the 9th. If you see a small boy being followed by a doting aunt and grandmother, say hello.

Frankly the pool issue doesn't bother me much because I had figured it would be too cold to swim anyway--the last two times we were down there in February it was darn chilly and an utter waste of Stormalong Bay.

Hi everyone! After reading so many wonderful things about the Poly, we've decided to book GVC in early December. One problem...there are no AAA discounts available. I am so bummed! I was told that I can check back frequently to see if one becomes available. In the meantime, I am going to book a regular GV room and keep my fingers crossed.

What are my chances of getting the GVC upgrade? Do I need to call everyday??? I am so excited about this trip!

The good folks at the Poly IPO emailed me back this morning and said that today (January 25) is the last day the Volcano pool will be closed.

I have never been disappointed in the Spirit of Aloha show or the food but I don’t do it every visit either. It makes for a fun evening.

What, in your opinion would appeal most to kids? Do Lilo and Stitch stop by? I know they have a character breakfast with those characters there. I am just wondering what would appeal to the kids the most.

Kids seem to enjoy the show and the food is not too exotic that kids won’t eat it. I think kids enjoy the ‘Ohana breakfast also but I was not a fan of the food or the service when I experienced it.

My sister and I are planning a Dec.2007 WDW vacation along with a few other family members(unsure at this time as to the exact number), but were wondering how far in advance to place our Polynesian reservations?
Usually my sister is the "planner" but I seem to have caught on to the Disney excitment and we are starting to gather as much information as possible for our up and coming WDW vacation. First time staying at the Polynesian. Thanks for the thread and the valuable insight!

Thanks BionicEar for the update on the pool. I am soooo relieved. My DH goes in a heated pool no matter HOW cold it is .... he's got one of those high internal core temperatures!! I didn't even MENTION to him that it might be closed -- and since we are arriving on Feb 12th I was a little worried!

It was done this fall and re-opened around the 15th of October. We were there 10/23 - 10/31 and the rooms were great. Tikiman's got some pics on his site of the new rooms and the new concierge lounge.

I would use the term “HEATED” very lightly. Pools temperatures have been drastically lowered across property due to Disney cut backs and high energy cost. They are now in the low 70’s, from the low to mid 80’s of years past. This maybe fine for some but not for most.

Thanks for the scoop on "heated" pool. Which probably means my DH WILL go in the pool anyway while I stay under wraps with a nice drink. (My DH once went in the ocean off NJ in November - I did not).
