It appears that the Braves have won the Teixeira sweepstakes.

NEW YORK (July 26) - A day after Barry Bonds called him a "little midget man who knows (nothing) about baseball," broadcaster Bob Costas said he wasn't upset with the San Francisco Giants slugger and responded with a jab of his own.
"As anyone can plainly see, I'm 5-6 1/2 and a strapping 150, and unlike some people, I came by all of it naturally," Costas said Thursday in a telephone interview.

They landed Dotel as well (hey, that rhymes![]()

A deal:
Dodgers to send Betemit to Yanks for Proctor.
Gagne is rumored to be going to the Red Sox.
2 more hours & counting.
Almost to the deadline and Adam Jones is still a Mariner.
So far so good.
Hope the Braves don't need a quality catcher in the next few years. The Mariners learned that lesson the hard way when they gave up Veritek for what turned out to be basically nothing in return.
Gagne has waived his no trade clause, so he is going to the Red Sox.
I read that there's a possibility that Pappelbon (sp?) will be moved to a set-up role and Gagne will be given the closer's role. Something about that seems wrong -- I think I would take Pappelbon over Gagne (at least until he's proven that he's back to his pre-injury days) as a closer.
Then again, it's a nice problem to have to choose between two closers.![]()
I hadn't heard that. In fact, the guys on ESPN radio were saying that he wouldn't be the closer, and in fact, that's why they were talking. He has some bonus stuff tied into the number of saves he gets, so he may have wanted some pay-off for that. Who knows?Boras is his agent.
