The Official Non-Red Sox/Yankee Baseball Fan Thread

The Mets were doing well today before the rain started...

I watched Cal Ripken Jr.'s speech during his induction to the HOF. It was great!

I can't believe I missed this thread till now. I am another die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan. I don't even want to discuss how bad we are this year. I will just post a picture of our beautiful new stadium with a view to our famous Arch.

DH and I like the Cardinals so much we even have a St. Louis Cardinals Christmas tree that hangs on the wall.:thumbsup2

I like your St. Louis Cards tree! Every year, at least one person gives me a NY Mets ornament for the tree. I think I'm going to do what you did.

Kenny Lofton, now back for a third tour with the Indians (thankfully, for just a minor-league catcher), got standing ovations for each of his at-bats yesterday at the game. A great game (albeit really, really hot out in right field), right up to the 8th. :p :p

Two starts now where the Tribe's given Sabathia a grand total of 1 run of support. :sad2:

The Mets acquired Luis Castillo from the Twins. They needed a second baseman, and it sounds like Castillo can do the job.

The Rangers are still selling. I hear Eric Gagne may be going somewhere--Boston, Yanks & Mets seem to be interested. He won't be the closer for any ot them, but he would have the possibility of October baseball.

NEW YORK (July 26) - A day after Barry Bonds called him a "little midget man who knows (nothing) about baseball," broadcaster Bob Costas said he wasn't upset with the San Francisco Giants slugger and responded with a jab of his own.

"As anyone can plainly see, I'm 5-6 1/2 and a strapping 150, and unlike some people, I came by all of it naturally," Costas said Thursday in a telephone interview.

:lmao:

Good for Bob! My God, Bonds is a disgusting jerk. I didn't think it was possible to dislike him any more than I already do; I was just proven wrong.

A deal:
Dodgers to send Betemit to Yanks for Proctor.

Gagne is rumored to be going to the Red Sox.

2 more hours & counting.

There's something to be said about the trading deadline deals these days (or lack of them) when the extent of the news is a has-been and two never-wills. ;) :lmao: :lmao:

Almost to the deadline and Adam Jones is still a Mariner.

So far so good.

Hope the Braves don't need a quality catcher in the next few years. :lmao: The Mariners learned that lesson the hard way when they gave up Veritek for what turned out to be basically nothing in return.

Oh they will. But they are thinking short term.

Gagne to Red Sox--they are talking to him right now to get him to waive his no trade clause.

and the Red Sox seem interested in Jermine Dye.

lots of has-beens!

Gagne has waived his no trade clause, so he is going to the Red Sox.

I read that there's a possibility that Pappelbon (sp?) will be moved to a set-up role and Gagne will be given the closer's role. Something about that seems wrong -- I think I would take Pappelbon over Gagne (at least until he's proven that he's back to his pre-injury days) as a closer.

Then again, it's a nice problem to have to choose between two closers. :thumbsup2

I hadn't heard that. In fact, the guys on ESPN radio were saying that he wouldn't be the closer, and in fact, that's why they were talking. He has some bonus stuff tied into the number of saves he gets, so he may have wanted some pay-off for that. Who knows? :confused3 Boras is his agent.

I thought I saw it somewhere on Yahoo Sports, but when I went back to try to find the story, it's not there, so maybe I imagined it. :rolleyes1

Ugh, Boras :sad2:
