The Official LOTR Fan Club!!!

ooh, ooh, I want to join!! I am a huge LOTR freak!

Elaine- I had no idea RotK was at IMAX until I saw your post! I'm gonna have to try to convince some of my friends to go see it with me now.:teeth:

I'm a big fan of the books, too, and there were several things in the RotK movie that really bothered me...it was the only one that I didn't see until after I read the book, because I didn't read the books until about a year ago. I've seen the movie 3 times, and I've liked it better each time, but there are still a few things that really irritate me.

about the car thing...I'm pretty sure that they took it out in the DVD. I think that Peter Jackson has said in interviews that he never saw it, or something like that.

wow...thats a really nice picture of Aragorn;)

I'll join! I love the LOTR. In fact, I'm watching Two Towers right now!

I just saw in the paper that ROTK is playing at the IMAX on Broadway. I might have to make my way into the city to see it.

I remember reading something about the car as well. It must have been removed from the DVD copy because I've looked hard and haven't seen it.

yay!!! 2 more members!!!! this is making my day!!!!!!:hyper:

Just had to say YAY for ROTK!!!! Won in all the GG categories they were nominated for!!!!

Well deserved wins! It's about time Peter Jackson and the Lord of the Rings got recognized.

I totally skimmed over last night when I posted about the wins!!!

Julie_yet, I do agree! They did a great job with most of the movies and I totally understand why the left some stuff out. Like the scouring of the Shire and Saruman would have taken forever to put in as well as a couple battle scenes, the house of healing and the like.

The one part that bothered me was how they changed Sam & Frodo and what happened right before they went into Shelob's Lair. I didn't get why that was changed... and I thoughtit caused a rift that didn't need to be there.

Melanie, I was watching some extended edition part on TT and they said that initially that car thing was in the movie but when they found out it made it to the film, they edited it out from the DVDs. So it's no longer there :(

Becca, a friend of mine in another state said they saw it at IMAX where they live so I checked and sure enough it seems to be showing here!!! I joke and say "imagine *those* close-ups" ;)

The extra drama with Sam and Frodo was what bothered me the most, too. I almost started yelling at the movie screen in the theatre when Frodo told Sam to go home.

I was also disappointed that Elrond's sons and the Dunedain never showed up...I liked them.

oh bummer!!!! no car!!!!

i am SSSOOOOOOO happy that ROTK won 4 GG...huzzah!!!!! :hyper: :hyper: :hyper: :hyper:

i know this is a little off the subject, but i have to vent...grr to Bill Murray for beating Johnny Depp, and grrr to Clint Eastwood for implying such an untrue thing about him, saying that hes had a so-so career and got famous for just one movie!!!!!raahh!!!!

i couldnt contain myself when rotk won best drama! (however, my screaming may have worsened by already bad laryngitis!) it deserved all the awards it won, though i think it should have been nominated for more!

i was thouroughly disappointed that johnny depp didnt win. he was hilarious in potc.

i havent read all of the books yet; ive only read up to halfway through TT, but its been so long since i picked it up that im starting all over from FOTR.

I have to check out if it's playing in an IMAX near me, cuz i definitely hafta see that!!

i didnt know until thismorning in the paper, my mom wouldnt let me watch it, b/c im grounded, but for some strange reason she let me watch the louisville game, which they won by the way, but not by vary much!!!! i was very pround of Johnny for arriving fashionably late...dont ask why, thats just me being my abnormally crazy self

Becca, I remember when he told Sam to go home, I looked at my husband and said "this isn't right" and just shaking my head. After seeing it 4 times I still do that ;) Really wasn't needed at all I think!

Melanie, I am a huge Pirates fan (saw that one in the theatre 8 times) and I was crushed that Johnny Depp didn't win. He so *made* that movie!!! Oh well, there's always next time since he was nominated for an Oscar!

ROTK also received 11 nominations!!! I hope they win them all ;)

Julie_yet, your reaction made me think of these... they are two parodies that someone wrote about the movies

http://www.livejournal.com/users/mollyringwraith/1826.html (TT)

They are sooo funny and got a lot of what I was thinking. Sometimes that site goes down so try back if they don't show up at first.

Hi everyone!!!

I'm lovin' that Viggo pic in your sig. nsyncraider!

I too was bothered that Frodo told Sam to go although I cried my eyes out when it happened

I was also bothered that they never showed that Sam was a Ringbearer also, if only for a short time.

There are things that were left out that I sort of understand, but I think some of these will be in the extended DVD edition which I'm just dying to see!

Congrats to ROTK for 11 nominations. Should have been 12 or 13 :( . I think Sean Astin deserved supporting actor nods, as should have Andy Serkis for Gollum.

Nice thread! :)

Oh and just as an aside, Viggo Mortensen should get an award for just looking so darn good.

:teeth: ::yes:: :lovestruc

Elaine-i agree...pirates was excellent, but orlando made it good too!!!!!!

LOL, I felt that way about Orlando Bloom... and I think he looks better as a brunette :p

You know I totally forgot about that ring bearing part as well for Sam. I think that helped Frodo and Sam be able to see eye to eye on the "weight" of the ring. There are other little things that get to me now and then like why they waited so long to bring in Narsil (he should have gotten in long before) and why the heck they tried to tie in Arwen's health with the ring. Poetic licensing I guess ;)

I agree, Sean Astin did an *amazing* job as Sam... he should've been nominated. I will say though, that entire cast for the most part was perfectly done! Everyone was very believable in their rolls.

Melanie, as I "quite" Orlando Bloom lover, I totally agree with you there... he really "helped" that movie along and really did an excellent job as Will... he really had that character grow into the "pirate" he became. And he looks good too ;)

I posted this on the other thread as well. I can't believe that Sean Astin got overlooked for his role. He was amazing! What an oversight.

I'm not sure what the Academy rules are, but I also can't imagine why Andy Serkis got overlooked. What he did with Gollum was outstanding!

Good for them, though, 11 nominations! No fantasy film has ever won the best Oscar. There's a first time for everything, and I know this year will be the one.

Those parodies are great...my mom thinks I'm strange because I was laughing out loud as I was reading them.:teeth:

I wanted more with Sam being a ring bearer, too...in the books, I was about dying because of the suspense during the whole Shelob and Cirith Ungol sequence, and it really made me like Sam. In the movie, it wasn't anywhere near as good.

Despite my endless complaining about the discrepencies between the book and movie, I think I might cry if RotK does not win the Oscar for Best Picture. And Peter Jackson needs to win Best Director, and it also needs to win Best Score or Soundtrack or whatever the award is called...the music in these movies is amazing.

I think that some of the actors should have been nominated, but I can see where it would have been hard to narrow it down...they need to create a new category for Best Cast or something!
