The Official LOST Season Five *No Spoilers* Thread

The writers must have been reading the DIS, cuz that conversation was dead on. :happytv:

WHy did Kate and Sawyer nos ask Richard what the heck they were when he said he'd always be one of us??? Doh! They've only been trying to figure it out for three years...

For the same reason no one had asked where Daniel is...

Tonight's episode felt kind of filler-y to me; sure it had some answers but not exactly cutting edge stuff: what Kate did with Aaron, what Sawyer told Kate just before jumping off the chopper, how Ben got with the hostiles, the whole making fun of the viewers with the time travel bit (which I found actually annoying and not funny in the least).

ITA! I felt it was a bit weird. No real shockers, yet interesting. I also didn't get into the time-travel discussion - perhaps because it was Miles talking about it who totally turns me off. I just find him incredibly boring.

I agree it wasn't the best episode but was glad for the answers. I am SUPER excited for next week, it looks really good!

I felt the same, that this was a very mellow episode. I found myself distracted watching it.

I was cracking up over the time travel bit, though! It was just like this thread :rotfl:

I didn't get the part where Sawyer and Kate gave Ben to Eyeliner man...what exactly were they going to tell his father? They never made any comments about getting Ben back, etc?? And the comments about him losing his innocence and never being the same??

I missed the VERY beginning...what did Sawyer say to Kate in the helo?

I have had such a busy day, I actually forgot it was Wednesday!!!

I am having an outpatient procedure done on my back tomorrow, so I won't be on to discuss, but I will be watching tonight!!
hope your procedure goes well and you have a speedy recovery.

Yep, I'm just as confused about the whole time-travel thing as Hurley is!:rotfl2:

I thought about you the whole time Hurley and Miles had that conversation. Especially the "Back to the Future" bit.
I thought about you too Amy. some of the dialogue was word for word on what was here.
Fans of Lost on Facebook sent me a message that this was the last season. Another attempt at an April Fool's joke.

What a great episode!
I got that same message. :cool1:
I am on facebook too! I can pm you my info if you want to be friends on there?

I loved this episode! We got confirmation on their time travel ideas. Also we know that Ben didn't remember the shooting and we now know why. And we heard reference to Widmore and Ellie - which left me very curious!!
Can't wait til next week!!!

I thought the same thing!!! :lmao:

OK, one question I had and maybe I missed something. When Kate first showed up at the door of Sawyer's baby mama, she made it sound like she knew Kate - "I thought I'd never see you again" or something like that. How would they have known each other? :confused3

And what was with the money? Is that something Sawyer had stashed away and he told Kate where it was?

Otherwise, I was glad for some of these answers. We can now kind of piece together what others have said about Ben. The idea that BECAUSE Sayid shot him, that turned him into who he becomes later.... and because Kate and Sawyer took him to Richard, that begins to explain some things.....

And we can only assume that Claire's mother has Aaron (although we never actually saw her go into the room and get him after Kate left).

Kate met Cassidy a couple of seasons ago. In one of Kate's flashbacks we see her meet Cassidy at a gas station when Cassidy was trying to run a jewelry scam. Kate's car had broken down and Cassidy drove her to meet her mother and helped her sneak in to see her so the cops wouldn't find out.

Sawyer had put away money in a bank account but it sounded like Kate used her own money to give to Cassidy. Not sure what happened to the money Sawyer left.

I was not impressed with this episode.

I did like Hurley's time travel discussion though. I think that Hurley is supposed to be the voice of the viewers. He seems to know everything about anything and is the one who always asks the questions we're wondering about.

Aha! Now I remember, thank you! :thumbsup2

I missed that reference - When was it? I will have to go back and watch it again. thanks!

When the Hostiles brought Sawyer and Kate to Richard, the Hostiles asked Richard "What about Ellie and Charles" (or maybe they said Widmore). Richard replied that he doesn't answer to them. Hmmm......Is Widmore in charge of the Hostiles already?

And I posted this over on the spoiler thread:

I really appreciated that the writers had Miles explain the "what happened, happened" theory to Hurley so that the rest of us might better understand it. I'm still a little fuzzy on things, but it's getting a little clearer now. (Yes, folks, it looks like I'm coming over to the "Dark Side" with you finally!:lmao:)

What's important to note is that Miles told Hurley that they can be killed (Sawyer, Hurley, Jack, etc) because they're from the future, but if somebody in 1977 (i.e., Ben) is supposed to be alive in the future, then he won't die in 1977.

It'll be interesting to see what happens to young Ben now. Will Richard patch him up and send him back to the Dharma folks? Remember when the Others/Hostiles gassed the DI, Ben was wearing a Dharma jumpsuit when he got in the van with his dad and killed him. Unless THIS is something in the past that CAN be changed without affecting the future?? In the "original" purge, Ben was still part of Dharma when he helped kill them off. But in the "altered" purge, Ben came in as one of the Others/Hostiles to kill them off. The circumstances differed, but the outcome was the same: Dharma was wiped out.

Am I getting better at understanding the "what happened, happened" thing? ;)

What helped me with his explanation is how he explained that the losties could be killed because they have already lived in the past, but those in 1977 can't die if they are just now living then and if they are around in 2007. Kinda like the losties are reliving the 70's so they already had their chance.

I can't wait for next week! I really want to know how that old temple or whatever that building is plays in to everything. Course it occured to me a couple of weeks ago when Sawyer called Richard "eyeliner" man that there may be some egyptian connection there. Richard Alpert... R. A. - the egyptian god RA? :confused3

Finally the whole time travel thing is clicking for me. Thank goodness for Hurley and all his confusion and questions.

I also caught the Ellie and Widmore reference ( I think they said Charles). This got me thinking that maybe Daniel and Penny are brother and sister. What do you guys think?

Ya basically if you've seen an OLDER version of somebody later in the linear timeline they can't die. Technically all the losties were younger later in the linear timeline so they are SOL. It's hard to wrap your head around but I grew up in a rainy area pre internet and was a little nerdy, I spent a lot of time laying on my bed pondering time travel paradoxes, fate vs freewill, and all that fun stuff.

My grade five teacher actually introduced us to the idea of fate vs freewill and it's a real mind bender because who knows? Even if you make a choice maybe that's the way it was always supposed to be...Very odd concept when you really think about it (without internet when cartoons were only on Saturdays and there was nothing else to do but lay on your bed cause it was raining).

I think they said they would fix him but "he'd always be one of them" and he'd lose all innocence. So I got the feeling Richard was giving him back but he'd be different. So it looks like this was what led to Ben going from whiney and sad to evil.

I am going to be extremely pissed if they end the series with Ben killing off Dharma(again) and this time the losties are there.

I just can't see where they're taking this, if you can't change what's happened than Ben is going to kill everyone in a couple years, which means all the losties are going to die too.

Well, more like 20plus years....the purge was in the early 1990's I think.

Ya I don't think they'll do that, the actors won't age enough in that time span. My guess is that Sun is going to somehow bring them back to the present maybe with Lock. Maybe part of Ben's judgement next week will be to sacrifice himself for them or something.
