The Official June 2010 Car Rental Thread***

I am so bummed out. We have been planning on driving but if a decent airfare came out, we would fly. So in January I booked a midsize pick up June 26 at MCO and drop off July 5 at MCO and the rate is $236.:) with taxes. Well we bit the bullet and paid WAY to much for airfare over the weekend (WAY WAY WAY) but just decided for 300 more than it would have cost us to drive 32 hours in the car plus a hotel room we were not looking forward to it.

Well OF course now we are leaving on July 6th so I need to add 1 day to the car. And if I do, the price triples!!!! Even if I return the car on July 5th but to Dolphin, it is 100 more.

Does anyone have ANY suggestions? It really is not a big deal, we are perfectly happy using DME and ordering a Garden Grocer food delivery, but figured I would just check and see. This seems like a pretty good car rental rate (in January when I booked it, I about fell off my chair because like airfare I thought it was a crazy price but seeing prices now..yikes!)

Would I be able to Priceline a car picking up at Dolphin? Really we would only like it for the first 5 days of our vacation, while we are at Kidani so we can drive to parks but once we move to BWV we are fine. I have not used Priceline since we bid for diapers when my son was first born 9 years ago!!! So I am worried of how it would work out.

Thanks for any help!!!:)

Try Hertz using CDP 22754 and PC 107822? That is what I am using right now and getting the best price I can find. It is for Priority One (Holiday Inn) members....free to join, so legit codes. I have been hunting like mad and it is the best that works for me but all dates and times seem to get discounted differently. Good luck!

We had a simmilar experience for our trip in 4 days. :cool1: Airtran kept changing the times of our return flight. So we ended up needing to add 4 hours to our car rental time with Alamo. This of course added a day & because I also had booked in January when the June rates were low it was making my rate TRIPLE. So I called Alamo. They were great. They added 6 more hours (just to be safe) & it only cost me another $14.XX to the rate that I originally booked. So my advice is to call. Good Luck.

I just looked at the site Priceline it dose have a "list an address" option with the "name your own pice" bidding but I don't know how well it will work.

Has anyone ever been told the minivan they reserved (7 passenger/5 bags) has a smaller storage compartment than a regular minivan and may need to upgrade to the bigger size to fit your luggage, thus more money? There is no differences listed on respective web sites. We had this happen 3 yrs ago at Orlando International and want to be prepared if it happens again. We leave in 3 days:cool1::woohoo::yay:
Thanks

No, we never have. We have rented out of Orlando AIrport and LAX using Budget, National and Alamo over the past 5 years. We have always gotten a Chevy Venture or a Dodge Caravan. What did they offer you that was smaller?

Dollar was known for doing that, but I don't know if that's a current practice.

They just said the van we reserved wouldn't hold our luggage but the upgrade van would? It may have been the same van and we were just scamed. We didn't actually look at the one they said was smaller to see if our luggage would have fit.

I tried to put an address in and it just comes back with airport locations. Bummer. ;)

I've been comparing codes for the last 4 weeks. I just played around again and got a much better rate at Budget using BCD U210900 and coupon code MUWZ023. But I can't remember where I found these codes. Does anyone know? I need to make sure I don't need anything for the codes.

Thanks, I just finished the reservation and it never said anything about adding the GPS. We are not a member of th ARA, will we have to show anything and is there going to be a problem with the ressie in my name?
