Much respect for the elementary teachers here! I subbed that age a few times and wow! There's a reason why I went secondary ed instead. :-)

How will the recent changes to FP+ change everyone's touring plans? I can book till June because we're staying off site. I plan on getting there at RD and not using the our FP until we came bake from our afternoon brake at 5, but now I'm worried that the morning lines will be "ALOT" longer, then they are now. Just another thing to stress over. Don't you just love planning your first DW trip. lol

This thread is loaded with teachers! My husband teaches and I'm a school psych. :-)
Yay! Another education family!

Hey! You're better off than me! I haven't been able to graduate from first grade for the past 10 years, ha!!!
First grade is tough!! I admire you for your work there. I worked in a 1st grade classroom as an aide when I graduated college and it was TOUGH!

DW and I are both teachers. :crazy2:

Not that we planned it this way, but it makes summer vacations at WDW a whole lot easier. :)
I agree - my DH isn't in education but does get a decent amount of vacation time - it makes going for a long vacation as a family possible as I don't get a ton of vacation time during the school year - however, I do think I get more than most - enables us to take 2 long weekend trips to WDW this year!

I'm not sure actually...I think it's a combo of 6th, 7th, and 8th (or maybe just two of those?) - language arts.
Those are tough ages but I'm sure you will do wonderfully! I'm a language arts teacher myself and love being able to teach students how to dive deeper into their reading. :thumbsup2

Same here! DH and I are both teachers. The reason we go to WDW in the summer is so we have enough time to drive down from NYC and take our time getting there over a couple of days, and also spend 10 nights at WDW. We stop along the way on the way home too. We're staying three nights in DC and going to visit some of my friends from college who still live in that area (I went to University of Maryland).

We didn't become teachers because of the breaks, but it is such a nice benefit to have all the breaks off with our sons. :)
Very true! I used to work throughout the summers until we had DD. Now that I don't work during the summers so that I can be with her, we have so much flexibility in our summertime!

Teacher here as well. I've been teaching 3rd grade for the last 14
years.
Yay! Another teacher! Wow, this board really is loaded with us educators!

And I send you lots of respect for moving to secondary! I couldn't do above 6th grade... too many hormones!

My touring plan isn't changing too much - we have a lot of half days planned in without much park hopping - we are taking this trip to really smell-the-roses so to speak. We will probably try to get a parade FP+ at MK one of the days after we use up the others... and maybe add in some extra FP+'s but I'm not counting on them being available because then I"ll be sad if we go to to book it at a kiosk and they are all gone. We are still doing lots of RD and EMH mornings. :thumbsup2

I'm not so sure I will change anything about our touring plans. Our FP+ will be during morning hours mostly anyway except the night parade at MK and the Lights, Motors, Action stunt show at DHS when we return from our afternoon break and before our dinner ADR.

The only thing I've been trying to figure out, even before the changes were announced, is how to fit in 7 Dwarfs Mine Train. We were planning on rope drop, but I think the mad dash to get there will be way too crazy and we may end up waiting 30-40 minutes anyway. So I think I'll end up staying up to books. FP+ at midnight. Our window opens up on a Wednesday though. Oh well, no sleep that night!

Don't stress. Being there at RD is a great plan, you'll get so much done in the morning. We are RD people, and we always have fun. :thumbsup2

There is certainly a learning curve, but with so much to do, I'm sure you guys will have a ball. :goodvibes

You're probably correct. The majority of people still prefer to sleep a little later on their vacation, and I think the parks will continue to be busier in the afternoon than early morning. We on the DIS May research and plan everything, but most people don't.

Don't drive!!! We ate there last July and it is the craziest place to get to. When you drive there you need to park your car and take their internal buses to the restaurant. It takes forever!!
We said next time we'd park at MK (I never thought I would want to park at MK LOL ) and take the boat over to the campground. The restaurant is very close to the dock.

How would it work leaving Hollywood Studios? We're planning a dinner there and will be driving to HS. Should we leave the car there and take transportation somehow to MK and then to Trail's end? Or would we be better driving? Thank you in advance!!

I am 2 weeks away from making FP+ choices. I think I have gone over every thing 100 times. My family just says tell me when to show up. They know that I'm an over planner.

Can not wait until July. It is cold in NE Ohio again today.

Same here for my family members lol. Everyone keeps telling me to plan and they'll show up where I say to! We're at 39 days from today

Count us in!!! My daughters dance team is competing at the Coronado. GRAND NATIONALS here we come!!! :cool1:

Good luck to them!!

Disney announced the start of more FP+ then! Starts next week! Right now you have to use a kiosk in the park, not the app, but after you use your 3 you can get another one, and so on. Allows for park hopping then too.

I don't know how it's going to affect us yet, I have to take another look at our plans and possibly move some things around. In AK we had all but 1 FP planned in the morning anyway, same for HS. Actually we're thinking of splitting HS day and going to MK that evening after dinner, but we're undecided right now.... Anyway, I need to do some more reading and see what other people are doing now and how their new plans are working out for them. I guess we'll find out Monday when they start the new system!

We feel that way within the elementary level. I have the highest level of respect for kindergarten & 1st grade teachers. :thumbsup2 If I were to go to the secondary level, I think I would want to go straight to the high school level. Middle school children go through too many changes. :rotfl2:

Thank you, but we feel the same way about secondary ed! I think some people are made to be little people teachers and some people are made to be big people teachers :) :) I could NEVER do middle school or high school!

Thank you! It is definitely tough, but it is SO rewarding. Being the person who teaches someone to read is so amazing :goodvibes

As for touring plans changing......I'm debating this too! Our original plan was to go early and ride standby and then use our FP+ later in the early evening after an afternoon resort break. After reading a few of the FP+ threads it sounds like many people are now choosing to use their FP+ earlier in the day so they can get more later after they use their first three. I'm wondering if that means the normally short rope drop lines won't be short anymore?

We don't have a lot of head liners on our must do list. My plan now is to do them all in the morning and after are break do the ones with lower wait time. that way we can take it easier during the hottest most crowded time of day. I'm going to have to keep tabs son what happends in May and June.

We plan on hitting the 7DMT first thing on out 2nd MK day. I can reserve FP+ until 30 days out. I'm sure there want be any FP left for it by then.

I am absolutely interested in a meet! I even talked to my DH and he thinks it would be great to meet others from this thread. I did some meets on our last trip and he seemed really uncomfortable so I asked him about it this trip and he seems really open to it. (which I am super stoked about, since he hates meeting new people :lmao: )
We can work something out that day for sure. We don't have plans other than our ADR's at the moment so if you have a specific time frame, let me know and we can work from that. We intend to spend all day there. We have breakfast at 9:10am at trails end then taking the boat over and will be there probably from 10:45ish on.

My wife and I haven't actually done any Disney meet ups, but we're looking forward to it this trip :) Our plans are pretty open on the 20th too, we only have a dinner ADR at 7:50 and we're planning to get to the park around the same time as you (so that we're not falling asleep by the evening EMH). We're pretty low key - would be happy to meet over lunch, drinks, a dole whip cone (can you believe I've never had it in 10+ WDW trips?) or wherever. What would work best for you guys?

Feel free to PM me if you prefer :)
