*** The Official July 2014 thread, join us won't you? ***

Hi all.... SOOooooo excited to say that I am going to disney in July 14!!!

I've been to Disneyland Paris 4 times but disney Florida is and always has been my dream!

My civil partner has never wanted to go but I have FINALLY managed to convince her that it will be an amazing decision!

It will be our 7th wedding anniversary and I will have just graduated university when we go so not only will my dreams be coming true by going to disney but there will also be lots of celebration!!! (This helped the we should go discussion too!!)

We haven't booked yet, still in planning stage, would like to stay on site but looking like we will be offsite (cheaper)

Dates will definitely be 27th July - 10th August though.

:D eeeeek!!!!

P. any tips for us first timers will be gratefully received. :)

:) :) helllooooo :) welcome!!!!!
Our first trip was this past May & it was amazing!!!! I will say I owe a big part of that to the Dis Boards! I believe the people on here are so knowledgable and willing to help... So my #1 piece of advice is read the threads.... Start your own by asking a question. I was clueless, but so many people on here would jump into offer their feedback, opinions and honest answers! Amazing!
My 2cnd piece of advice: grab a notebook and your favorite pen.. Start by writing the dates, the parks, the ADRs you want to make, park hours (look up last years) and do some planning.
What worked for me was ROPE DROP, ESP at MK. We got their an hour early. We accomplished soooo much in the first 3 hours it was fantastic. We hit all the important headliners that we wanted. Also, an ADR around 1 forced us out of the hear and allowed us a rest.
I could go on forever! We are a great, fun group here... So ask away!

Hello me23xx,

:welcome: to our very friendly thread! So happy that you will get to go on your first trip to our world! The best advise that I can give you is plan, plan, plan! How you may ask? Well, ask questions, to us to other threads, to the Disney phone (if it doesn't cost too much) look at other sites such as allears.net or mousesavers.com (am I allowed to post these??) We here on the July thread will answer as many questions as possible, we love to chat and help people on this thread.

I will add you to the front page and just ask if anything from your original post on dates and offsite location changes, let me know so I can change it. You are officially on the front page!:yay:

ThankYou for sharing! I love seeing what others do to make their vacations possible. I think if it was just myself i could lie on a Sand beach or by a pool all day every day :) but my boys... Nooooo way!!!!
I agree 100% a mix of relaxation with plenty of Activity is what makes WDW perfect. Sounds like your plan is pretty fabulous! We went for 7 nights 8 days w/one resort day and one typhoon lagoon/DQ day. I'm thinking this trip making it 9 days ~ that would be amazing!!!!
You definately make cruising sound pretty amazing I must say :)

Sounds like you also have a great balance of theme parks and relaxation. My aunt and uncle used to take my cousins to WDW in the 1990s when they were kids. They said they would stay for 10 days and go to a theme park every other day and on days in between they hit the water parks. They said the water parks were very relaxing. That was before Animal Kingdom was open. They used to go to MK, Epcot, DHS and universal.

Yep, we love cruising too! :thumbsup2

Oh my gosh ~ I'm so considering renting points from Davids (sorry if we are not supposed to mention this). On a Facebook group other dis members are chiming in on their great experiences... Arghhhhh something else to drive me crazy!!

WOW!!! - New news, you'll have to share with me when you find out more details or information.

DD has decided on Royal Caribbean Cruise, departing out of Galveston. July 27th through August 2. Very inexpensive 795.00 per person. DD also is trying to talk me into doing both, Disney Vacation July 13th through July 21st at BC and the Cruise.

She will be entering high school next year and tuition will double from the current amount to 18,900 a year for 4 years. I told her we may have to skip Disney during her high school years and settle for Royal Caribbean Cruises during that time. Tears flowed and DD was so sad. Being a single income parent, I have to do what is best for her during the High School years.

DD has been going to a private church school since kinder and I want to follow it through high school.

Wow! Big changes, Bob. I know you are a wonderful father and want what is best for DD. I also know it's hard for kids to understand the decisions we have to make, but one day she will see the importance.

We tried planning a cruise for a few summers, but I just kept cancelling and going back to Disney. My friends don't really understand the Disney thing, but I really don't care. It's what makes me, me.

Hope you are doing well. School has been so busy. My new kiddos are good so far, but it's only been a four days. haha!

So google davids dvc rentals (or something like that, im on my cell so i dont know exact) and u can figure out the cost for me it would be $20 more to book AK lodge than CSR (rack rate) **** watch me get banned from the dis for doing this.
I'm sure their is alot of pros and cons but I'm hearing ALOT of pros and zero cons so far. Also, if you have facebook their is a dis 2014 group and that's where I heard the positive feedback.
Wow man, that's ALOT of $$$$ for school it must be amazing. I do understand wanting to do whatever you can for your child though. Good for you for working hard and being able to :)

It's understandable that you want the best in education for your daughter. It's so nice to speak to parents who truly put their children first, and you certainly are that parent! I also understand how she feels...to a kid, they don't see things from the same point of view that we do, but she will definitely appreciate everything you do for her in the long run. Plus, I guarantee you that once she goes on a cruise she will enjoy it very much and be very happy you took her on one. My parents took us on cruises every summer for our vacation from the time I was 13 until 19 years old, and I was always very appreciative of that because of how much fun it was. While I wasn't raised by a single parent, we were a single income household and there was both myself and my sister. We went to public school, but we both went to college out of state. We both grew up to appreciate and respect the fact that my parents always put us first. They're still like that...their children and grandchildren come first and we're all grateful for that. My sister and I are raising our children the same!

Some of my friends don't understand the Disney thing either, and almost all of them don't understand how much I loathe flying and avoid it as much as possible. I can't even begin to count how many times I have been asked "oh just suck it up and get on a plane," or "I don't know why you enjoy cruising and Disney so much, don't you get bored?" Umm, I'm not telling you to do the same kind of vacation as I do, so why even say things like that to me? I agree that you shouldn't care what other people think...it is your family time, your money and your vacation and each family has to do what's best for them!

Wow that is a great deal! AKL is such a beautiful resort too!! Are you looking into any other resorts, or is AKL your dream resort? Again, let us know how this works out for you and what you decide!

I am completely clueless what I am going to do :( I am still on edge about the renting of point process! As i have my "trust" issues & the idea of being stranded with no hotel is a fear even witj a TA. Any of the deluxe resorts are my dream.. Love WL, AK, beach club, CR, Floridian.. But, with point Ak or WL is probably most affordable. Believe me... If I do decide to rent I will ask you a billion question, stalk your PM, find out you personal email and drive you insane with question.... Lol... I'm really just joking. Kinda. ;)

Thanks to all of you for your support and kind words.

The Parents who chose to enroll their children in the High School I mentioned, we all have had a pre-enrollment meeting the second week of school. We all received the 411 as to what to expect. Of course we have been in the loop for the past 3 years, listening to the parents of the children already been through what we are experiencing now. So the information was not a total shock but now since we are in the process of enrolling, it has hit home.

I have applied for tuition assistance and will probably be granted up to 3000.00 discount. Great News!!

I am trying to talk DD into Disney only for this year and then step into the Cruising during her high school years. I think this way would be the smart way to go..

OK - got to go wake up Midori and get ready for school and work. OH!! by the way Midori was voted Captain of the Volleyball Team!! :yay: First game next Saturday. Yesterday's practice was super. The whole team is excited and all of them have grown a few inches. WOW!!! children do grow up quickly.

Edit -- OMG and I forgot I still have to buy Midori a car when she turns 16 :scared: DD wants a Convertible :drive: Mustang GT - YA!! Insurance also

Well congrats to Midori for being named captain! That's a huge deal! Ds13 was asked by his principal if he would take part in the leadership program for his 8th grade year :) he had to go to school a week before everyone else & yesterday had to organize the pep rally for the incoming 6th graders. So he called me at work yesterday bragging about how happy he was that he did it and how good it feels :) Makes us feel good as a parent !
~ have to think about high school for next year, for my twins. One of them loves politics and law the other has a knack for cooking and wants to be a chef.
~ ~ The more I look into renting points the more excited I am. But, it's scary. Also the dvc owner has to book your dining plan and needs to be paid up front and in that case Im not sure if I would. But, to be able to stay at WL or AKL really is tempting!!!!

Points wise, I know BWV is less than WL and BC if you get a standard view as opposed to a BW view or preferred view. We always get the standard view. We saw Epcot fireworks from our villa! We were across from the bus stop which was convenient. It's far from the elevators (long hallway), but we just walked downstairs and out to the bus stop or walkway to DHS. The lower point "cost" is the reason we chose BWV. We were torn between BWV and BCV for the location. Also, through resale BWV was less money per point than BCV. But...a lot of people choose BCV over BWV for the pool there. A few things for you to consider if you're set on the Epcot area. But all the resorts have really great things about them! :thumbsup2

Congrats on Midori becoming captain...that's big time news! :thumbsup2

Also congrats on qualifying for tuition assistance. That would be great and adds up in 4 years.

Ahh yes, a car...this is why when we had kids everyone told us they're most expensive when they're teenagers, not when they're babies! We think about this all the time...DH is trying to get a job as an assistant principal. Right now we work at different schools, but close enough to each other that he drives me in the morning on his way (his school has a parking lot but mine doesn't...it's very unusual to have a school parking lot in NYC), and my father picks me up at the end of the day right after he picks up the boys at school (we live 10 minutes away from where I work). If DH gets a job as an assistant principal where he has to drive there and can't take the bus or subway, we will have to get a second car. We talk about that car being the first one our kids drive! :rotfl2: If he gets a job in manhattan, he will just take the subway because there's no parking there without it costing an arm and a leg.

As for cruising, I'm sure Midori would love it! It's kind of like Disney...once you go, you get hooked! :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

I am gonna try to catch up a little bit.

Congrats to Midori! I am not looking forward to the buying a car thing. But my son will be 16 in under 2 years but I don't know if there will be any interest in driving. He seems a bit behind the curve in most area of social things being autistic but ahead on school learning things. I had to buy him a $100 calculator for his Algebra II homework (he's in 8th grade) and that is one to 2 years ahead of his peers in our district. I also work at the high school they will go to and we live 1 mile from it.

As for the vacations, we have done the cruises (carnival) cheap, good and fun. The kids loved them and I loved them. While I love all things Disney, I don't like their cruise ships for one reason: no casino. Part of MY fun on cruises are bingo, dining room food, and casino. I don't like pools, outside stuff (asthma, and in the middle of the ocean it's very humid and I can't breathe well). I say that in the 2 weeks worth of cruises I have done, I have spent about 1 hour outdoors. :lmao:
We all loved the cruises, had a blast.

I have looked up renting points and it scares me too. I don't know what to do about it. I am hoping that a discount comes out for July and we can just upgrade to moderate. My DH wants to do POR. We haven't done that and would like to try it. We also changed our resort for right now. We are now not staying at AoA, we are at Pop preferred room. Closer room for the same or slightly lower price right now. Trying to save a bit of money on this trip.

Hope everyone has a great Labor Day Weekend!!!

:) hi :) my boys will be driving as well in about 2 years & I can't imagine it!!! Arghh!!!! As far as math, gosh I would bet they are a year behind where they should be, drives me nuts.
I would love to do a cruise... But like renting dvc points I'm Scared and I'm not sure why?????? Maybe being on a ship for so long, I'm not sure. The price is good though. As far as renting points, I can't find one bad thing about the company I was going to use.. And to stay at a deluxe for the price of a mod is completely wonderful. But, I probably will not do it.
POR is awesome!!! You will love it! My boys even loved the pole fishing. In fact ds13 would wake up on our no park rest/sleep in day very early (and force his twin) to walk over to the fishing hole. Two of my boys rented bikes :) we loved the food court. We loved the white bridge that led us from our room to the main bldg. we even plopped on the benches a few times to take it all in. Its the only resort we stayed at (we only went once). And I'm switching to CSR to try something different as well as the fact we were magically pixie dusted. I booked a regular room and we were upgraded to a royal room pool view. Knowing I can't book that type, I would rather switch resorts.... Does that make sense?????
Hope you all have a wonderful weekend :)

Thanks – Midori is excited. Your DS and My DD are the same age and same grade. DS into politics and now taking part in the leadership program means only one thing!!! (Governor of Mass).
I can just hear the family conversation at your dinner table.
(The Firm Movie for the Lawyer at the table and Iron Chef Show for the Chef at the table).
(DVC - Owner) booking your Res and D.P. and 100% paid in full would be a little uncomfortable for me since I have no experience in this area of Disney. Theirs a couple of DVC owners on this thread will probably help ease the feeling of uncertainty. Got your P.M. – thanks

Thanks – I will need all the help I can apply for, grateful for all.
Right!!! – We should have known when we were down on the floor playing with our children’s Tonka Trucks and Barbie Cars, our kids were preparing us for the bigger purchases in life.
Wish we had Subways! (Not the Sandwich Store) – Would be nice to let someone else do the driving. I imagine the cost of parking is like booking a Deluxe Resort and the Deluxe D.P. – I had better be thankful for the free parking I have been granted.
We have never been on a Cruise so DD and I are anxious about it.

Thanks – Looks like we all have children just about the same age and same grade. $100.00 for a calculator WOW, I don’t even remember how to do Algebra anymore. 1 mile from school – that’s neat. I Love to be able to take a little Honda Scooter to work and leave the car at home.
I bet with Asthma the humidity is really a factor. Does the weather in P.A. affect your Asthma? We’ll that question was a dumb one.. But you know what I mean.
In Texas – we are limited to one Cruise Ship Ports (Galveston) and the next closest departure port would be New Orleans. I may be wrong, but I think I heard Disney is going to pull the Cruise Ship from Galveston; also it was very expensive for a 4 day one and a half stop cruise.

Yes - Hope everyone has a Great Labor day Weekend. Stay out of the heat. Pic below the temp in Fort Worth Texas with the heat index..

I know, I know - your asking me why am I taking pictures while driving 60 miles an hour?? - I promise I do not do this on a regular base..

Yes ~ RHMH ~ I've been haunting the PM of "bangzoom" and driving her and her dh crazy, since they are dvc owners! They have been a great help. And although the company is very reputable (dis sponser) I don't think I can do the 100% up front cost. Makes me nervous. Oh well a mod it will be :)
I have 3 boys twins 13 ds 10. Teens are a tough age! I can't imagine how tough girls are..... Scared!

I wanted to share the 2 videos below. DD and BF's wanted me to go over to DD's friends house and help them make a couple of music videos. They had a lot of fun and it turned out pretty good.

Hope you have the time to view them.

So I had to watch this (on my long commute to work). And it's so funny (not the girls) but to see what girls do for fun! Man, boys play where they aren't supposed to, I just pray they don't come home infested with ticks, they wrestle and fight, they play army and hide in woods. So the video was refreshing cute girls..... What talent :) :) :) thanks for Sharing!!!!

Right - I was one at one time, well sometimes I still act like one even at the age of 55. I remember getting into stuff all the time and when my parents got a hold of me, they would ask.. "What were you thinking" and they would answer their own question - "You weren't thinking" I would look at them and reply with a DUMB answer like this "I was thinking, I promise" :lmao:

Yes, Midori and the girls can talk me into do the craziest stuff. I have a very soft heart...and love all of DD friends.
