**The Official January 2012 WDW Thread**

How have I not jumped into this thread yet?! I am going from January 3rd-15th and getting married at the Boardwalk! DF (soon to be DH!) and I will be staying at BCV, GF, and BLT--- I can't wait!

Congratulations!:bride::groom:
I will be there around the same time, if I see a wedding party I will wonder if it is a fellow DIS member. ;)

What Are You Doing This Month To Prepare For Your January Disney Trip?

Good question! I think this month won't have a lot going on. We've got the resort, ADRs and our plane tickets already. So this month, I'm going to start work on Epcot Passports for the kids (thanks to some of the great ideas and designs on the Creative DISigns board!) I'm also keeping my eye out for more Disney things to include with the children's Christmas surprise. I'm looking for things to go with the trip for them to open Christmas morning. It's really nice having most of the planning done already! :)

ALERT ALERT!!!

Fantasmic- not being performed 1/9/2012 -2/12/2012.

This is a bummer b/c we haven't seen in years and just promised my oldest that we would take her on our January trip.

So glad we have park hopper...think we'll do DHS during the day and now go to Epcot to see Illuminations that night.

New Question of The Day (or maybe it should be weekend or week, since it's slow in here sometimes?)
What Are You Doing This Month To Prepare For Your January Disney Trip?

I think we'll be buying our park tickets this month. We'll use Undercover Tourist again.

I have a couple random questions - has anyone done Characters in Flight? Thinking about trying it this time. Also, who's "picked a pearl?" I think I may do that for our daughter. Did you pick a setting there as well?

111 days :thumbsup2

Not doing anything to prepare at this time, We have a free dining package, and have made ADR's already, so that is all taken care of. The only thing we do to get us ready for Disney, is playing little Disney Question games while we are riding in the car, or maybe while we are all eating together, like...if we could have one ride in our backyard, which one would it be, and we ask the kids what is the very first thing we should do when we get to WDW, and things like that. Its a fun to think about since we still have over 3 months to go:headache: Maybe next month we will go to the Disney store and pick up some long sleeve t-shirts or hoodies for our trip.
We picked 2 pearls last trip! It was fun, but for some reason DD was so horribly embarrassed by the "show" the ladies put on in Japan....we like to tease her about it to this day:laughing: I didn't get a setting in the parks, before our trip, I ordered 2 of the Cinderella's Carriage pearl cages on eBay. It was around $3 for one and it came with a chain! Very pretty, and I was happy to save some money on them!

Congratulations. What a wonderful place to get married.

New question of the day.

What is your earliest Disney Park memory?

Mine is not actually of me going to a Disney park. Rather it is of sitting on my neighbours bed when we were 10 years old while she told me all about her trip to Disneyland. She showed me her Mickey ears with her name embroided on them, her Disney snow globe and she gave me a giant Disney pencil and a ruler which I took to school and used. :cool1:

We used to watch the Mickey Mouse Club together and loved Disney movies.

Her father worked for QANTAS and they were able to get cheaper airfares. I wasn't jealous because I knew we couldn't afford to travel overseas but her stories about the rides and the Land really stayed with me. When I did finally go in 1992 I felt like I had childhood memories to take with me. I wasn't disappointed.

New question of the day.

What is your earliest Disney Park memory?

When we were little, our family from Idaho and New York would come down every few years, and we would make the trip from Northern CA down to Southern CA in 2 giant white vans (thankfully I don't remember the drives, but that must have been something with 8 adults and 11 kids, :scared1:).

My earliest memory is when I was about 5-6ish. I remember sitting on the sidewalk with all my cousins, sharing buckets of popcorn, while my uncle videotaped us all acting silly while we waited for the Main Street Electric Parade to start. I remember watching and loving the colors, lights and music. And even now when I hear the music, I get the warm fuzzies inside!

Congrats!!
Maybe we will see you walking around.
We are there from 1-7 to 1-21.......wear your DIS green along with your Just married pin.

Thank you all so much! I will certainly be wearing my Just Married pins--- but I gotta go get some Dis green! (I'm a slight newb to the DIS, but not a newb to Disney.)

My Earliest Disney Parks Memory
Great question! Actually, my earliest memory isn't a memory of being in a park either. My grandparents started going before I was born, and ever since I was little, they would tell me stories about their trips. I still have a postcard somewhere that "Mickey" sent me when I was 3, telling me he couldn't wait to meet me someday. I used to go over their house and watch their trip videos that my grandfather would take one on of those huge videocamcorders. So, by the time I actually GOT to a Disney park when I was 8 in the mid-90's, I was already obsessed. :lovestruc

What is your earliest Disney Park memory?

My earliest Disney Park memory was when I was 9 years old (the first time I ever went to WDW back in 1983). We stayed at the Polynesian Village and went to my first ever water park, River Country. I remember going on the Skyway and loving that ride so much that I never wanted to get off, I just wanted to ride it back and forth from Fantasyland to Tomorrowland, my dad on the other hand, would not get on the ride because he was (and still is) deathly afraid of heights. Instead of riding it, he would take the stroller (which had my brother in it) and walk over to Tomorrowland to meet me, my sister, and my mom there. That was also the same year that my grandmother and aunt came with us and my grandmother bought my sister and I our first ever Mickey Mouse dolls...which I of course still have today. Everytime I look at my Mickey doll, I remember my grandmother and all of the wonderful memories I had with her there.

We lived In San Diego so we used to go to Disneyland often. I remember bits and pieces but couldn't say which was first. I do recall being about 4 and in a ride with canal boats that went through a storybook and we went through the mouth of a whale, I think Monstro from Pinocchio. That was frightening, but even scarier was the Snow White ride and all I can remember of it was it was very dark and the wicked witch was always jumping out at you when I was expecting Snow White. That scared the bejeezes out of me for sure. But my favorite memory is when my Grandma and Grandpa came to visit and they bought me a Mexican sombrero with the little red pom pom balls dangling all around the brim and it had a little tie with a slide to keep it on. I don't know which "land" of Disneyland that was, but I remember a parade and then getting the hat. I loved that hat with the dangly balls. First WDW memory was my honeymoon many years later.

I have a question about the green DIS logos. How do you guys make them?

I don't use the Mickey head paint chips like a lot of people do.
We have a button maker and I make mine.....and I include them in a lot of exchange packages.......with bright green paper with DIS in the middle and my user name under.
I wear it on my bag usually.

I also have bright green ribbons on my purse (used only slightly) and my camera bag.

What is your earliest Disney Park memory?

3 years old (and that was a LOT of years ago!!) at Disneyland.....we lived in N. CA...losing my hat on Dumbo and it going into the water down below :(

My other best early memories are playing in the pool at the motel across the street that we always stayed at.

What is your earliest Disney Park memory?

My first trip was when I had just turned 7 in February or March of 1979. I remember my Mom telling me that the Magic Kingdom was so big that we would surely not run into my friend who was also vacationing there at the time. Then we saw her. Three times I think.

Also, Florida was having a super cold spell and folks were buying anything they could to keep warm. Lots of mouse ears on bald men. :goodvibes

What is your earliest Disney Park memory?

My earliest memory was actually of watching the Wonderful World of Disney as a very young boy in the mid 70's (I actually never made it to WDW until I was 16). I remember seeing all that great programming with Walt always introducing the features. It was hard to believe that he had already passed away several years earlier; I don't think I actually realized this until my mid teens. But of course it didn’t change the fact that as a boy I couldn’t wait for Walt to come on the TV, I was hooked.:)

This reminds me of how when ever we travel we always manage to bump into someone we know whether they be a neighbour of the in-laws (our Phuket Honeymoon staying in the same hotel!), my brothers room mate and her boyfriend (on the Champs d'Elysee), or some guy you get to chatting with who just happened to grow up a few streets away (Athens, the Parthenon and then again on Ios). 'tis a small world after all...

:rotfl: I hope it's not that cold this Jan!!

It looks like BTMRR and Dumbo will be closed for most of January. :(
They both close on January 9th! This is a major disappointment!

I agree with the disappointment. Touringplans have Fantasmic! closed from
1/6/2012 to 2/12/2012. I emailed them to confirm and I was told that these dates are correct and that the official Disney site has not yet been updated.
Planning ahead is tough and frustrating when the calendar keeps changing!
