I have a trip booked for 1/29-2/4/12 at Pop for me, DH, and twin sons who will turn 7 on our trip. My birthday is a few weeks after our trip and my and DH's 10th anniversary is 2 months later. Our 10th anniversary trip to Europe that we always talked about has morphed into this trip.
DH was at Disney in his 20s once and neither myself nor the boys have been yet. The trip is a surprise for our boys - hoping not to tell them until we land in Orlando, if that's possible. But the more likely scenario will be fillling them in at the airport.
Am now considering switching to POFQ b/c, if my calcuations are correct, the price difference is not a lot. I've been going back and forth in my mind about this. While I am truly excited to be going, this trip is all about the kids and I'm going back and forth about which resort they will enjoy better.
There are pros and cons for both.
Although I'm pretty sure I'm going to switch, but I'm hoping to get feedback from anyone who has stayed at one or both of these resorts.
Can't wait for our trip!!!
Everyone has a different opinion and you will find several about every resort on property, so take mine lightly and read as many reviews as you can before you make a decision.
I've stayed at Pop and at POR, however we went over to POFQ quite a few nights since they're side by side for beingets(sp?) and checked out the resort.
Personally, I didn't like Pop. It was loud and crowded. The resort is pretty good sized, and for that resort, they only have one check in counter, one food court, one arcade, one bus stop. Everywhere we went, we felt crowded and felt like we were just someone in a sea of people there. There are also no fridges, coffee pots, spas, pool slides and the bus stops are not covered at Value resorts (not a huge deal, but if it's raining, cover is appreciated!) But my son did like the large icons and bright colors.
We really, really enjoyed POR. That and POFQ are beautiful resorts. They were quiet and serene. We liked that they were sister resorts and you could easily walk between the two. I really liked that POFQ is a small resort, because POR was big. There's also a lot of things to do, such as renting bikes, fishing, taking the boat to downtown disney, etc. And while there are no over the top icons, my son enjoyed walking around the resort and looking for lizards and bunnies. Also note, that POR has several different bus stops, but since POFQ is so small, it only has one, however it's covered and very close to everything, because this really is a very small resort. Also, there is only one sit down restaurant between these 2 resorts, looked at POR. Value resorts don't have sit down restaraunts. Lastly, these 2 resorts have queen beds, vs. the double beds that the values and caribbean beach have. I wanted to stay at POFQ this trip but DH wanted to try a different theme.
Now to throw a loop into your plans, I would also look at Caribbean Beach. I have a 7 year old boy too and we ultimately settled on this resort because there is a lot for kids to do. The pool is a zero entry pool. The slide looks great. There's a pirate ship, dump water, play area. There's quite a few playgrounds, sandy beaches they can play on, while mom and dad sit in a hammock and relax. It also looks nice and beachy. However, from what I've read, it's a very large resort, so much so that they have an internal bus system, so that may not work for some people....
My opinion is that if you're upgrading to the regular dining plan and/or you want to spend any time at your resort, you should go moderate. If you are only interested in the quick service plan and are in the parks from 7am-12am , I probably wouldn't bother upgrading.
