The Official January 2010 Car Rental Thread

Just did the daily rental car price check.....My $ for a 1 week +1 hour reservation for a midsize from Jan 30 to Feb 6 just dropped....ALOT! I'm now at $143.35 from National using continental code and the $40 email code and $145.83 from Alamo using walmart code and $30 off email code. Kept the National ressie and will use the emerald aisle!

Good Luck to all,
Val.

Just checking in to let you guys know that we arrived here at WDW Monday and used the National Emerald Aisle. It worked out great and they had a couple of G5s, Impala's, Jeeps, a Charger and a Nissan Cube?. We had a bunch of suit cases so we picked the big trunk Impala.

Hope everybody's rentals go well.

What is the $30 off email code, and does it have an expiration?

ugh- I tried this for 1/21 - 1/27 and it was $259 all in for a midsize (or larger). I'm tearing my hair out over this rental. We've never paid that much to rent a car in Orlando.

With Alamo using Costco code 7014627 and Coupon AD2123JMC for $30.00 discount the total with taxes for a midsize is $139.08.

Thanks for the codes and coupon for Alamo. I am now down to 142.05 for compact from 1/22-1/31 with costo codes. could not figure out how to make it 139, but now i am down from the 177 I was at with a mc code and $25 coupon.

Use Coupon AD2123JMC for $30.00 off and costco code 7014627 and total is $136.25.

With Alamo a midsize with 1wk + 1hr is $130.57 using Costco Code 7014627 and Coupon Code AD2123JMC for $30.00 off. It also includes free additional driver.

I got my rate down to $240 inclusive with Alamo.
10 days + 2 hours (Jan 28th - Feb 7th)
picking up at TPA, dropping off at MCO.

Shuttle in TPA but I don't mind that. I like to be able to pick my car out. I understand Alamo has this feature. And I will be sure to use the kiosk.

Used Costco code and AD2123JMC $30 off that apparently was sent out in an email. Does anybody have a link to this so I can print it out just in case ? I know I shouldn't need it but...
Will continue to look out for better rates as there's still over 1 month to go for me.

Fullsize is $226.08 and Midsize $198.98 now.

Use Coupon AD2123JMC for $30.00 off and costco code 7014627 and total is $136.25.

and National is a couple $ cheaper using 5007160 and coupon ND1881JDK for a compact vs. economy. I stuck with Alamo for the free additional driver w/ costco code, and I always seem to get a midsize no matter what class I book. Anything can change though.

Hi all,
Just wanted to chime in ! I've been watching my rates going down for the past 3 months a little at a time, with the help of Mousesavers and your advice. I've had reservations with 3 different companies durning my search. I just got my lowest rate so far :cool1: with National $164.31 for 1/21/10-1/29/10 for 9 days. Emerald Aisle Service mid size, $40 coupon from National, Continental Airlines code 5007160.
Thanks for all of your help ! I'll still be looking for a better deal before we go! :surfweb:

Alamo is $150.90 using Costco Code 7014627 and Coupon AD2123JMC

Thanks for the info - that is a big difference! When I tried the costco code earlier, it was only about 30 cents difference from the walmart code and I figured I wouldn't risk it as I'm not a Costco member and now I don't need it anymore....as we have changed our flight times and made it a full 8 day rental instead of 7days + 1 hour.

I actually had a good transportation $ afternoon - switched my nonstop crack of dawn Saturday morning sw flights to a nonstop Friday night flight for $3 difference a person (had been running about $20 - $25 more that the $59 I paid for the sat am flight!), got an 8 day rental from alamo for a midsize for $144 total (walmart and $30 e coupon) and scored the Marriot at MCO (3.5 stars) on our late arrival night for $39 on a bid on priceline ($51 after tax)! :cool1:

Thanks for helping everyone out, nice of you to do that.

Since this post I actually found a better rate $186 for a Standard. And I gather I might be able to pick from the Full size row as Standard may not really exist ? At least that's what someone posted about MCO, not sure if it holds true for TPA.

Using best National codes, a midsize seems to be $220 right now.

Question re: Emerald Club. When you put your info in, I thought it showed "Emerald Aisle" beside the Midsize car choice or something ? The last time I tried, I didn't see that. Did I dream that or maybe I'm missing something. I've been an Emerald Club member for some time but have never actually booked with National and taken advantage of that.

I'm looking to get a better deal on an SUV I have for 1/23-1/30 and Hotwire's Hot Rates are so low right now. If I wanted a full size, I could pay $108.45. Standard SUV (Jeep Cherokee or similar) shows $25.95 per day on the initial page after loading my dates, but that drops to $22.95 after clicking for information. $226.01 all in looks like a great deal, but Priceline is usually better and I'll be bidding there. (Edit - just tried $17/day on Priceline and was turned down. Will try $18/day tomorrow)

I just got a $199 deal on a minivan at both Alamo and National. With additional coupons, they both come out to basically the same rate... so, is there any reason to choose one over the other? Will I find a better deal on a minivan somewhere else?

That seems like a good price. What codes are you using? The lowest I can find is $323 as a last minute special with Alamo.

My mid-sized 8-day (1/23-1/30) Alamo rental just plummeted to $125.15 using the $30 off coupon and the Walmart code. I am ecstatic. Keep checking those rates

THANKS FOR THIS! My 8 day midsize Alamo rental also dropped to $125.15 using the same codes, but for dates 1/29 - 2/6. :cool1:

Thank you! Alamo minivan went down to $247.46, a savings of about $70 for me! Used walmart code and coupon. Thanks.

Sorry it wasn't in Orlando... I'm actually going to California and just assumed the special was nationwide.

Please research to make sure I am correct.

Regular Alamo does not include an additional driver - you need to pay an additional $10 a day for that unless you used a code like the Walmart one that includes it.

With National - it is included if you enroll in Emerald Isle.

A Priceline bid of $17/day at MCO didn't win for me yesterday when I bid on an SUV, but $18/day just did the trick. $200.61 total for 7 days for a Standard SUV (Chevy Trailblazer is the example) at Hertz, 1/23 to 1/30. I'm saving $114 over my previous reservation. Well worth my time to jump on the shuttle. :)

Minivans can probably be won for the same bid, if you don't mind the chance that you'll have to shuttle outside the terminal.
