The Official January 2010 Car Rental Thread

My National rate is still the same. 10 day rental, full size, (1/21 @ 10:30A -- 1/30 @ 1:00PM). My total after all taxes and fees is $213. I'm happy with that. Executive Aisle member, so guaranteed full size or better.

I think I'm sticking with my minivan from National. Picking up at Dolphin and dropping off at MCO 1/7-1/12 for $322 total. I can't even find minivans available at alamo or national now and we have to have the van with 6 of us (4 being adults)

Tried above link and my rate was much better.

It helped me, too! I got $165 for a week at National in midsize Jan 26-Feb 2 instead of the $200 that I had. Thanks!

My rate just dropped today! I'm now paying $186 TOTAL after taxes and fees for a FULL size (or better - Executive aisle) rental for 10 DAYS. Pretty good and I still have 3 weeks to go. Folks should recheck their National rates for January.

What combination of coupons/codes are you using?

I got my rate down to $240 inclusive with Alamo.
10 days + 2 hours (Jan 28th - Feb 7th)
picking up at TPA, dropping off at MCO.

Shuttle in TPA but I don't mind that. I like to be able to pick my car out. I understand Alamo has this feature. And I will be sure to use the kiosk.

Used Costco code and AD2123JMC $30 off that apparently was sent out in an email. Does anybody have a link to this so I can print it out just in case ? I know I shouldn't need it but...
Will continue to look out for better rates as there's still over 1 month to go for me.

Hi all,
Just wanted to chime in ! I've been watching my rates going down for the past 3 months a little at a time, with the help of Mousesavers and your advice. I've had reservations with 3 different companies durning my search. I just got my lowest rate so far :cool1: with National $164.31 for 1/21/10-1/29/10 for 9 days. Emerald Aisle Service mid size, $40 coupon from National, Continental Airlines code 5007160.
Thanks for all of your help ! I'll still be looking for a better deal before we go! :surfweb:

It is just my step daughter and myself so I booked a compact Car from Alamo from January 2nd to 10th inclusive (8 days)

The total is $247.00 with taxes and charges included.:cool1: I'm a happy camper! What I've found with rental cars is that I just show up at the desk and I turn down any upgrades - normally, they give us a mid-size or larger vehicle anyway because compact cars seem to be in limited supply in most locales (mainly because no one books em). Not sure if this is the case in Orlando but if we only get a compact car, I'll still be happy with the price.

Using Costco Code 7014627 and E Coupon AD2123JMC for $30.00 off your total for a compact is $177.73 and includes free additional driver. They never ask for Costco membership so no worries and it's an E coupon.

I have a full size reserved with alamo using the costco #id and the alamo double upgrade coupon au2789sdm from mousesavers for $300 from jan 2-15. Can you mix a discount code with coupons or will they tell me at the desk that you cannot mix and match. I have an entertainment book that gets me the same deal but could use the extra driver with costco code. Thanks in advance for any help.

My price was from carrentals.com.

I took a wild card deal which gives me a mid-size or larger. The price for Jan 8 - 16 is $190.00 and car is from Thrifty.

My rate dropped slightly again. National, code 5007160, coupon $40 ND1881JDK.

Renting 10 Days (Jan 21-30). Full size or larger (Executive Aisle) paying a total of $179 after all taxes and fees included. (Before taxes = $119 for a 10 day full size+ rental). Plus I still have 3 weeks to go for more drops!

Yes, you can do this. I always use the Costco ID along with a coupon code. Never had any issues.

Thanks, this gives me the best rate so far. Full size car, 8 day rental pick up in Fll, drop off at MCO....$183.40 ;)

We just book through hotwire, for Jan. 23-30 for $130 for a full sized car. It turned out to be from Hertz, which is a bit disappointing because we need to take a shuttle, but our original reservation, through Dollar was for $190, so we're getting a decent savings.

I thought I had a great rate of $159, but thanks to all of you got a fantastic rate with some of these codes....

Been using the code 5007160 and coupon ND1881JDK.

National Jan 22-31 Compact (cause that's all I need) $143 including all taxes and fees

Alamo Jan 22-31 Compact $139 including all taxes and fees

Now I just have to decide. From my experience National has better cars, but does that really matter when I'm driving a compact?! Also thinking about joining EA , but not sure if it's really worth it. Any opinions? Thanks!
