The Official Home of the Trading Spaces and Other Home Design Shows Addicts and Fans!

Kia should have NEVER painted that piano. She had other wood pieces in the room that would have complimented the piano in it's original state. Otherwise, the room was okay. I did not like Laura Day's room.

Anyone watch Trading Spaces Family last night with the Tucson families? I did not like Laura's room AGAIN but surprisingly enough, I liked Barry's office. I usually don't like weird Barry's rooms, but this one was nice.

I once again cried during EM-Home Edition last night. Maybe one of these times I won't, yeah right. My favorite thing was the stone work on the outside of the house. I told my husband that it was exactly what I want on our house when we get one. My oldest DS thought the snowboards were "cool" and ditto for the backyard, "Hey, those are like the Disney bears!"

I haven't watched too many of the "In a Fix" but haven't liked it much. No real good reason just didn't like the characters I guess.

Yeah, that was my first reaction too. They kind of grow on you and you do get a lot of useful information, not only about design, but how to actually do it. If you watch enough "average guys" put in a floor, you finally figure out that you could probably do it yourself.

I agree that the DIY element of this show makes In A Fix interesting to watch, although I will sometimes fast-forward through James' descriptions (they're just too long for me and not always useful). This show has grown on me too.

I usually watch it for the transformation that happens in the room(s), which are usually really good. Not always things I'd want in my house, but they usually suit the home owners well.

I don't like the repetitive clips of the other person getting a massage - "oh honey, I hope you're not working too hard, blah, blah, blah"

I'm watching Trading Spaces family and Barry is doing silhouettes
of him posing with a baseball. This is not the first time one of the designers has used this, Hildi loves to use body parts in her "art work" . Who would want these on their walls? Just don't get it unless it is a game room (even then I don't like it) but this is a family room?

I didn't see last night's Trading Spaces, but judging from the posts on the TLC boards, it looks like one of the worst episodes ever. This was where Hildi and Doug were designing black and white rooms respectively. Most of the folks are complaining about what Doug did to the one couple's room, which was apparently painted white....right down to the plants. The reaction of the homeowners who got that room were on a par with crying Pam and angry Jessie. So what did you think of this one?

P.S. MeanLaureen, I see you on those TLC boards for TS. So you're the second DISer on there, along with samirella.:D

I don't think anyone is every happy on the TLC boards! I've posted there too but very rarely.

I thought the disappointed homeowner of the white room handled it fine, he really tried to hold it together but hated the room. Another example of what happens when the homeowners wishes are completely ignored.

Wanted to add, I didn't really like either room but I like more elements in the white room than the black. With the wood floor back and some minor fixes they will be able to make it into something they like.

I read in a magazine that Paige is going to be on Oprah either today or tomorrow. Nate Berkus is going to be redoing a room in her house or something like that.

WHAT - she isn't going to have Kia, Doug or Hildi redo the room.

I thought Saturday's 'white' HO handled the reveal very well, considering how horribly disappointed they HAD to be with that room. Yep, Doug even painted the firewood white. This show was just another example of the room being about the designers, NOT the HO.

I'm another one who RARELY posts to the TS board. It's way too snarky for me. Also, one time someone asked for directions on how to make pillows from old/disgarded sweaters. I gave COMPLETE directions (not being a wonderful typist, this took some time). No acknowledgement, let alone a thank you.

I haven't watched this episode yet (probably will do that tonight). How did the black room come out?

I think I'd rather have an all white room than an all black room if I had to make a choice. It would be easier to fix :)

Ack! You guys found me on the TLC boards!!

Well hey... snarky isn't that bad sometimes. Besides, I get to let my hair down and have fun there - but I don't ever do it at another posters expense

designer, yes.. poster, no :) :) :)

Well, Paige isn't going to be on Oprah today either. They are doing What Not To Wear....EVER AGAIN as their topic. I am positive I saw a full page ad in Oprah magazine about the Paige/Nate show. It must have been delayed for some reason.

I just found out yesterday that our school nurse's show will air in the next few weeks.

You will know it is her episode because there is a car accident involved in the taping! It takes place in NJ.

Cant wait to see it!

They are downright scarey over there. I just stay in lurker mode and that is where I will remain! I do enjoy seeing a familiar face over there!!!

Just saw a commerical for the Paige/Nate show. It will be on next Monday. Paige looks like she's practically hyperventilating at the results.

It was nice to see you there too. I have a different screen name there. I did register as Mary Ellen, but since I post SO rarely, I forgot my password and had to re-register.

I don't have a problem with comments made about the designers, but the attacks on the HO and other posters get to me.

While I feel that the it is fine for the designer to decorate the room in a manor that the HO might not thought of (that is a purpose of the show), it should still look like the HO live there - NOT the designer.

It is unrealistic for a HO to expect exactly what they request (if they KNOW what they want, they should do it themselves), but the room shoudn't be glaringly (is that a word?) different from the rest of the home.

Doug seems to feel this is fine (when he does it), but how would he feel if someone (Frank??, not that he would do that) put a very 'country' room in a very contemporary home - JUST because it was different and he 'knew better than the HO'.

Too many (rude IMHO) posters on the TS boards feel that the HO should be thrilled with whatever they get. We would NOT be happy with:

hay/straw on walls
cardboard glued to walls
silk flowers/records/wine labels covering walls
solid oak craftsman fireplace mantle destroyed
carpets dyed (particularly orange)
any images of Hildi (or any body parts there of)

[I'm noticing a strong Hildi theme here, moving on..]

master bedroom looking like a jail cell
hardwood foors painted
a room painted in 'Laurie' colors
cows, pigs, chickens
piano painted
bed suspended from the ceiling
THEME room smashing one in the face (theme possibly, not THEME)

That's just off the top of my head. Needless to say, we aren't applying. My neighbor and I did consider trying out a few seasons ago when they were looking for Colorado homes, but we were afraid of Hildi even back then. Now my neighbor is so fed up with TS she doesn't even watch anymore.

I like looking for design ideas, heaven knows my home could use help. However, some designers just seem to be interested in showing how 'creative' they are rather that creating a room the HO will love (and be able to live in).

One word about Extreme Home Makeover tonight - wow!
It's never a good sign when I start crying at the beginning of the show (just like Paul said). An amazing story - those poor kids!

And speaking of Ty - he did an amazing job on the "chench" and the funky bar on Trading Spaces.

Hildi's room was nice, which of course is a huge shock.

Gen's room was pretty cool, but I'm not sure I liked that shade of red for the punch color. Maybe orange would have suited that particular green better?

I liked the "chench" too as well as both rooms. Gen's room was a littly funky, but perfect for those guys.

Can't wait to watch Extreme Home Makeover tonight..
