It WAS Lexie. I think that surgeons could be able to tell the difference between dead and unconscious!
I just read another Shonda Rhimes interview and she said that she and the actress playing Lexie had worked on her demise together, and that she would like to work together someday on another project.
She also said that Teddy being fired was permanent too.

That was one thing I didn't understand. I only saw the last 15 or 20 mins of the show. Did something happen earlier that gave Owen reason to fire Teddy?

He was giving her an out. Earlier it became clear to Owen why Teddy was pushing for Cristina to stay. Teddy wanted out and Cristina to replace her. She talked about how hard it was for her to be at Seattle Grace where she met her husband in the elevator and had to operate in the same room where her husband died. She needed to get away from the memories.

Then Teddy realized that Cristina is leaving Owen and doesn't want to leave him alone and in the lurch. So she decided to stay.

Owen, feeling that letting Teddy stay would be very selfish, and she needed to go, fired her, forcing her to leave which is what would be the best for her.

Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes confirmed via Twitter that Kim Raver (pictured, left) — in addition to Lexie (Chyler Leigh, not pictured) — would not be returning next season. “This finale was incredibly hard to write. I did not enjoy it. It made me sick and it made me sad. We end the season not knowing ANYTHING about the future. Except for two things. We know we are definitely saying goodbye to two of my favorite people: Chyler Leigh (Lexie) and Kim Raver (Teddy),” she wrote. “I know this season’s finale had some surprises for viewers and the exit of Kim Raver was one of the big ones. But Kim’s series option was up and she was ready to give Teddy Altman a much-needed vacation. It’s been a pleasure working with someone as talented and funny and kind as Kim; everyone is going to miss her terribly. I like to imagine that Teddy is still out there in the Grey’s Anatomy universe, running Army Medical Command and building a new life.”

Rhimes, whose other show Scandal also aired its season finale last night, went on to explain Leigh’s exit as well, calling her an “important member of my Grey’s family.” “We had a lot of thoughtful discussion about it and ultimately we both decided this was the right time for her character’s journey to end. As far as I’m concerned Chyler will always remain a part of the Shondaland family and I can’t wait to work with her again in the future,” she wrote.

Yes, both Lexie and Teddy are gone for good. It's interesting that with all the people who said they were leaving during the finale (Jackson, Teddy, Meredith, Cristina, Derek), it ended up being Teddy that's leaving. That shocks me. It's pretty obvious how they'll get the rest to stay now, but I wonder how Jackson is going to end up staying. Because of April, I guess.

I am very much looking forward to seeing the reactions of how everyone back at the hospital handles the news. Especially Callie.

Oh. that was my opinion too. Through out the 8 seasons the show has been on i think that episode was the grusomess episode. I am still in a state of shock about lexie since she was my favorite character. Argh. Why couldn't they kill off Kepner...

I just wonder whats going to happen with Marc next season? I don't want to know what he goes through the next season. Will he end up like Yang after the shooting?

I too am wondering how the people will react to the news.
Callie is going to go beserk probably...

I don't know how meredith is going to handle next season without her sister?
I just am still in shock. I was really hoping that Marc and Lexie would get back together...

I really liked that aspect of the show!

I think it was because they kind of did it quickly. It wasn't a drawn out death.
That was just meh....
I guess it shows they really didn't know who was coming back since no one had signed their contracts when this filmed. It kind of left them with the ability to decide during the off season.

Very true! Right now any one of them out there with the plane crash could die.

I was so happy to see the old Christina back! She was taking charge, barking at people, etc. again! I was waiting for her to slap Meredith in the face to get her back in control when she was sure that Derek was dead.

My favorite line of the episode was when Callie was talking to April, Karev and Avery and April says, 'you were married?, to a guy???' and Callie responds, 'and he died'

To be honest, my DH is. That is how his Dad passed and seeing that really upset him. If I would have caught it sooner, I would turned it off.
