Where do you get this knowledge

Can someone please help me out with a couple of questions? I just started watching GA a few weeks ago, but I'm already hooked. I've read a lot of show summaries so I'm kind of caught up with everything that has happened, but I have a few questions I just can't find the answers to:

1-- Who *is* Callie? Is she an intern or a resident doctor? She seemed to have some kind of seniority over Christina in last night's episode.

2-- Why do Callie and Christina not like each other?

3-- Why isn't Bailey in the running for chief? It seems like she's already in a position of some authority if she's overseeing the interns.

4-- Have all the main characters slept with each other at some point or what? It seems like in all the episode summaries I read through, someone else was hooking up.

1-- Who *is* Callie? Is she an intern or a resident doctor? She seemed to have some kind of seniority over Christina in last night's episode. Callie is a resident doctor - orthopedics. She like the others are to help train the interns. Right now she has slept with George BF/GF type thing & Sloan - 1 night stand kind of thing.

2-- Why do Callie and Christina not like each other?
Christina tends to be aloof wih pretty much everyone. It is not that she doesn't like Callie but does not consider her a friend/in her circle of people like she does George, Meredith, Izzie, & Kerev

3-- Why isn't Bailey in the running for chief? It seems like she's already in a position of some authority if she's overseeing the interns.
Bailey is a resident not an attending. I believe only attendings are up for Chief (not positive though)

4-- Have all the main characters slept with each other at some point or what? It seems like in all the episode summaries I read through, someone else was hooking up.[/QUOTE] Like every other ongoing soap opera/drama show out there, they try to personalize the characters by including their romatic/relationship lives. Izzie has only slept with Kerev (that I can remember) and then the whole Denny thing, Christina has only been with Burke, Kerev pretty much is the tramp in this show and sleeps with nurses, interns, patients, etc., Meredith of course with Shephard and also George - the infamous crying in the middle of the act episode. Addison - Derek of course, Sloan, and now the kissing with Kerev

Tune in to the Lifetime Channel on Sundays 11PM for reruns of the show - they started at the beginning and we are I think 3 weeks in to the 1st season now, but it will help you play catch up.

Thank you so much for that!!! :teeth:

And that's great to know that Lifetime airs old episodes. I'll be setting my VCR!

Orthopedic resident

2-- Why do Callie and Christina not like each other?
Hmmm... conflicting personalities? Callie was not in the intern's good books for a while. Was there an actual defining moment between them???

3-- Why isn't Bailey in the running for chief? It seems like she's already in a position of some authority if she's overseeing the interns.
Bailey is a resident, the others are attendings (or vice versa - i'm not up on my MD lingo)

Meredith : Derek, George, the vet and several other non regulars
Izzy: Alex
Christina: Burke
Addison: Derek, Sloane, kissed Alex
Callie: George, Sloane
Alex: Izzy, Olivia the nurse, cancer patient, Kissed Addison
Derek: Addison, Meredith
Burke: Christina
George: Olivia, Meredith, Callie
Uhhh... i'm sure there are others but my memory can only hold so much!

ETA: DOH! Too late!

For the interns in genearl..the defining moment of acceptance was Meredith's panties.

As for Christina--she didn't even want to be friends with the interns for a while.

LOL!! :lmao: Who can forget the panties!
I loved the look of fear in Callie's eyes last night when George proposed!

I'm glad that everyone else was as shell-shocked over last night's episode as I was... God the Grey's Anatomy writers are brilliant to be able to still be evoking such shocking episodes for us all!

I think Christina's just crazy enough to say yes - that was a HUGE step for her to start talking first! My jaw hit the floor when that happened, then to have Burke come back with a proposal, whoa!

I kind of thought it was going to happen with George though as soon as he walked through the door at Callie's... You're right Caropooh, she's scared though - and I think she'll be cautious to see if George really meant what he said or to see if he'll kind of take it back... There was fear in her eyes when he proposed, but did you all notice that there was such a longing in her eyes when he first said "Callie, I love you..." I want them to work out!

What's the difference between a resident and an attending?

A resident is still going through training. First you go to college, then to medical school for 4 years, then you are an intern (1st year out of medical school) then you are a resident. Basically you are a resident for 4 years if you want to specialize in something. If you really want to specialize, i.e. neonatology then you go onto a fellowship after your 4 years of residency is completed. If you want to be a family practice doctor you can quit before the 4 years of residency is finished.

Where I worked no one was called an intern, you were just called a resident once you got there and were a resident for 4 years, the ones in ob or peds. Bailey is still a resident as well, but probably a 3rd or 4th year as she has authority over the 1st year residents. Residency usually starts in July, so don't get sick in July as they don't know what they're doing! LOL No offense to the residents out there. But really the 1st years totally depend on the nurses and would be lost without them. By 2nd year they become more cocky. Then by 3rd year they come around again learning that they really need the nurses to be on their sides. It is interesting to watch.
