The Official Free Dining Watch 2007 Thread

What do you guys think? We're aking our dd who is 2 to Disney during free dining. Do you think I should say she is 3 and buy her a one day pass just to get her the dining. We probably won't use many of the credits but it would be nice for milk and what not...

It's not really necessary. Seriously. My DH and I went to WDW with our then 2 year old and I was worried about the same thing. In the end, it was no problem at all to accommodate our 2 YO into our dining plans.

Character/buffet/all you can eat meals: You will get free milk for your 2 YO and free food as well for no additional fee. Some places like CRT even bring out special food for 2 YO's

Other TS meals: Most of the time DH and I order water anyway or maybe so getting DD milk was really no problem and she just ate off our plates.

Counter Service Meals: We found the drinks to be large or re-fillable so my DH and I just split a drink and ordered milk for the second drink. One of us ordered something she would enjoy and split it with her. You get dessert even with CS meals and it is a ton of food.

Plus, you can always use a snack credit for milk. We did this as well.

How many of you already booked your trips during the free dining period?

I've booked already, but we're going whether or not Free Dining comes out. If it does, we eat at Le Cellier and Coral Reef. If not, plenty of chicken strips and french fries in our future!

Yesterday when I called, cm said, we have to recieve it in the mail or email...:confused3

You don't suppose they would do that to us, do you?? make it a promo like the 40% off code - where you have to have a PIN to use it?? i would just cry, because I NEVER get any of those!! :scared:

also just checked my Disney Visa and still nothing....:sad1: :sad1: :sad1:

Interpret this anyway you like but I found this conversation with CRO interesting. I have a trip booked and already paid for Sept 9-15. We are going free dining or not and have been planning to do so all along, the dining is just a bonus. Since I have an AP and puchased a ticket for my guest I wasn't sure if that qualified as a "package" or not so I called to ask. I did not mention dining but did say I was aware of a promotion that would be offered during my stay that would save me significant money. Of course, since the room is booked in my name it's not considered a package but a room only. After explaining they would simply rebook my reservation as a package before cancelling the other so I would not lose my room if they happened to sell out she emphasized these words:

To qualify as a package, each person in the room has to purchase a park ticket. If you hold an AP, you only need to purchase a single day's ticket to qualify, you do not need a ticket for each night of your stay. You will still qualify for the benefits of a promotion based on the number of nights of your stay, not the number of days on your park ticket.

The dining package is always promoted as being for each night of your stay. That's what I think she was trying to say. Get the single day ticket to make it a package and get 7 days dining for 2 for $67. She kept emphazising the words package benefits are based on nights of stay not days on the park ticket like she knew there was something I really needed that ticket for and it wasn't savings on the room. So, either there will be limited free dining offered in September or likes us, she's heard the rumors and at least believes there will be.

I do have a question though. I'm an extremely light eater. When Dh and I went, we got the dining plan and I picked from his plate most meals. We used the credits we saved for signature restaurants that required 2 credits. That was well worth. This fall, I'm going with a friend who isn't as hearty an eater as Dh and we don't really care about fancy restaurants. I doubt we finish as single TS meal between us. Do you think it would actually save money in the end to stick with the room only and hunt down a code on that or an AP rate while paying OOP for our dining as opposed to paying rack rate for the room with free dining? Are AP rates really becoming that scarce? If they have free dining is it at all likely they'll run another promo at the same time like an AP rate or room only code?

Yes, this is the way it has been in the past. The free dining is only given with a package and to qualify your trip as a package, you must have room AND tickets. However the dining plan is not attached to the tickets, it's based on how many nights you are staying.

Yeah, I knew that. I just found it interesting that without my telling her what promotion I'd heard about she kept emphasizing that point :rotfl: and kept using the words "promotion benefits" and never alluded to savings on the cost of the room. Hmmmmmmmmmmm

Ah I see what you're saying now! Yes, that IS a nice hint, isn't it? :cloud9:

Well, anything is possible with disney.
I don't get anything either!:scared: She did confirm my email address though.:wizard: I hoping for some magic!:wizard:

I have not called at all. I am just watching the DIS boards for free dining to come out. I am also checking WDW's home web page. DH is telling me that we will not go unless we get free dining. We went last year and it was such a great deal! He and I both said last year that it is too good of a deal to pass up. So I keep hoping for free dining so that we can back! I am ready for anther trip!
I hope that it is not a code that comes by email though because I haven't called since our trip last year. Should I call to make sure I get a code email if it comes out that way?????? I wouldn't know what to say, though.

Now I am thinking about doing this too. I have a 4 yr old on plan and a 2 yr old not on plan. My 2 yr old is a big eater and she will want her own food and everything her sister has. I was going to pay OOP for her but since dining will be free I could buy her the 1 day pass and save it.:confused3

I have to think about this. Just when I thought the planning was over:eek:

I was wondering this also late last night, due to the majority of the places I would like to eat at I should have already made my ADR for a month a ago.
When we want in 2005,they asked me what hotel I was staying at and if I was on the dinning plan.

Can you make ADRs without a package reservation? And this far in advanced?

Anyone can book 180 days out even if you are not staying on sit. If you have a resort ressie you can book 180 + 10 days out. I said that I didn't have a ressie number because I hadn't decided on which resort yet but that I would be using the DDP so they did not charge me for my ADR at the castle.

I have gotten postcards with codes before (and used them) and emails with codes before. I think I only used an email code once, though. I haven't gotten a postcard or email with a code in a while. I think the last email code was about the cruise not the parks. I cannot remember.
WDW definitely has all of my information. I frequent their web site and parks! ;) I just don't want to miss out on a free dining code email or postcard if that is how they are going to do it. It was low crowd and fabulous deal last September!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
