The Official Free Dining Watch 2007 Thread

someone posted on the resturant board that if you book with the disney visa that you have to put the entire cost of your trip on it:scared1: say it isnt so!
Also what time Monday morning can we call to book? (I know I wont be sleepin good sunday night)

BeachGrl - I know that's not true from last year. Unless it's changed this year. Several posters have commented they just put the deposit on their Disney Visa and paid the balance with another card, check or whatever.

Wait till Monday at 7am EDT and call and ask.

DH is considering booking us a land/sea 7 day cruise for September. I have been working on him to go back to WDW for the free dining since we had a blast last September. Now he is wanting to take another cruise and do the parks. I love the cruise. However, I told him that I don't believe we can apply the free dining with the land/sea cruise. He said that he bets they will. We totally disagree on this. I am correct......right? I am sure that they will not do free dining with a land/sea cruise. Does anyone know for sure? I want to call Monday morning so we have to make our decision by tomorrow. We are looking at the Sept. 13 cruise if we can do both. I just don't think Disney will do that.

P.S. We took the cruise in 2005 so we didn't do that last year. We did do free dining last year.

You can't if you book it as a land/sea package. Why not book each portion separately?

Yes, but some guest like me stay very late on their departure day.
In 2005 we saw many guest angry due to they did not understand it was only for the nights of you stay. So I wanted to make it clear. It depends like you said on how you use your credits. We are using two TS for a dinner, so we are paying out of pocket for one of our TS. When you are new to the DDP it can be very confusing.

You get 1 TS + 1 CS + 1 snack per person, per night at the resort. As soon as you get your KTTW card, you have all credits available. You could theoretically use them all in one day if you wanted to. Whether used or not, the credits expire midnight of the day you check out. So, on the last day, you may or may not "eat for free." It depends on how you've budgeted your credits.

We are using 4 TS credits the very first day we're there (CRT breakfast and HDDR dinner). Then we're doing CS and OOP for dinner a couple of nights. I like having that flexibility :) (and also not having to pay up front for both of those expensive meals!)

OK, another "kink in the works" question/idea.

I already have my vacation booked with deposit put down ADR's all made. I am going to call 1st thing Monday and re-book with my Disney Visa.

As I understand it, I will have to cancel and rebook. A PP said that they will refund the amount previously deposited and charge the $200 to my Disney Visa..that's fine. Won't it be just as easy to apply the amount I already put down on my deposit towards the newly booked package rather than refund it??

I paid for this deposit with gift cards (used rewards points too) and I do not want them to put the amount back on the gift cards (even though I kept them so it would just be put right back on our package anyway).

Make sense?? I don't see why there would be an issue with doing it this way, just wanted your .02. WHY OH WHY am I so compulsive???:confused3 :lmao:

Why do I always get the CM's who say " We don't know anything yet... it's just a rumor." They're driving me nuts!

When you make ADR's do they ask the ages of people in your group? We are sort of stuck! We are in the middle of an adoption and hoping to be matched by the time our trip rolls around. We thought we were matched 2 months ago, but it didn't work out. Anyhow, I'm afraid to make a ressie using free dining and then have to add more people so I was thinking of just getting two rooms, and explaining our situation to the CM booking the ressie. But on ADRs I don't know what ages the children will be (we left it open from 0-11) so do I just give them the number of people eating?

And if something should happen, how hard is it to call back and take people off the ADRs or take people off an extra room?

Thanks!!!

I've never been asked the ages of the people in the party, just how many are in the party.

Good luck with the adoption!

I would think it would be easier to take somebody off the reservation than add somebody on. I may end up doing the same thing if DH can't take off work.

Changing the number of people on an ADR can be hard. Basically, you have to cancel the old one and make a new one, and of course there may or may not be availability for the new number. If you've got an ADR for a party of 2 at 5PM, they may not have a table for 4 available at that time.

On the other hands, the ages of the people involved doesn't seem to matter. Some CMs do ask for ages, but it only affects whether the individual in question can order from the children's menu (in theory .. . in practice some CMs let people order off the children's menu even if they're too old).

I wouldn't think you would have to take people off the reservation... I mean, you book for a table for 4 people and only 2 show up, what are they gonna do tell you that you can't eat? It would be a different story if you had a reservation for 2 and 4 people show up.... kwim

I wouldn't think it'd be required either, however it would be decent to let them know. Because let's say it was 4 people down to 2...letting them know ahead of time would clear up a reservation for 4 and which then makes it available to someone else.

Right, but right now we take up one room, if we have two rooms booked and something happens where we only need one....as long as I cancel it within the 45 day window we shouldn't have an issue right?

QUESTION!!!!! And yes I'm shouting LOL

Okay, I just got all my schedules together and figured out what day we want to do each park/restaurant....etc and called to get ADRs. Well, I had no idea they charge you for CRT! Wowzers!!! So I had to pay 200.00 to make that ressie....when do I get that back since I'm booking during the Free dining promotion? I really wanted to spend that 200.00 for one of the room down payments :(

All you had to do is say you're on the dining plan and they would only take your cc# as a guarantee but not charge you. Didn't they ask you if you're on the dining plan?

[MOD EDIT: You cannot just say you're on the DDP if your current reservation doesn't include the DDP. They can and will ask for your reservation # to confirm the DDP on your reservation.]
