The Official Free Dining Watch 2007 Thread

Gee, I got an email too but it was for RACK RATE! Why bother sending me something I could have booked months ago if I could afford it?! We have been to Disney 5 times in the last 6 years. With all the info they collect you would think their marketing deptartment would know that I have 5 in my family so a value is out (unless we want 2 rooms), that we usually stay at the Poly (last 4 trips), and have never booked without some kind of discount. If I were in marketing, I would think the better way to get me back is to offer something at least similar to what we have booked previously. Also, had bounceback been offered last August when we were there I would have booked again for this August in a heartbeat.

After our very first trip which was in the month of November the next year we received a postcard for the same resort we stayed at and for the same time of year asking us to come back. Unfortunately, we couldn't manage it that year but I do think they would get more families back if they offered what they have booked in the past. There usually is a reason people choose certain times of year or particular resorts. That is more enticing to me.

I crunched a few numbers. Remember, this is just estimates and it's for my party only which is just 2 adults who aren't especially hearty eaters.

IF a code becomes available for a room only for approx $66/night at a value resort, including the cost of a park ticket for 1 of the adults since I have an AP it's $617 for 6 nights and estimated dining costs of around $75/day combined bring it to $1067

IF free dining is offered, I currently have a value resort room booked for the correct time frame which cost me $775 including 1 adult 6 day ticket and I didn't use any codes so I assume that was rack rate. Adding on $67 for a 1 day ticket for me to make it a package rather than room only so it's eligible for free dining brings it to $842.

We'll take free dining for $300 please Alex.

Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Give that lady a prize! :rotfl: That's what I said too and proceeded to not book the room. With 4 people in our party for 4 days, I'm sure food costs would way outpace the savings on the room.

The thing I didn't understand was I didn't say anything at all about free dining. I just asked if I could add the dining plan and he said "no, it's a room-only code." Is this common? I can't think of why that would be, unless it's because of the free dining offer about to come out. But even so, aren't there still going to be people paying for the DDP at the same time as others are getting it free? Doesn't make sense to me. I guess they just have a bottom-line figure that they want you to spend per day and it would be too cheap for you if you got a room discount and the DDP.

I talked to my travel agent yesterday about the free dining plan after reading about the possibility here. She said contractually she was not allowed to say anything.............but...........Disney "may" be making an announcement on April 19th and that it would be a good idea to call her on the 20th to re-book my honeymoon at Disney in late August.

Ack, the 19th now? I may lose my mind by then. :lmao:

Where do you sign up so you can get emails for Disney Destinations?

I really don't know. I've been subscribed to a lot of Disney things for a long time, so I can't say. The e-mail mentioned the vacation planning DVD I recently ordered, so I'm assuming that's why I got the offer.

If I were to get a room-only code, AND free dining would come out, could I use the free dining for my 10 nights, and the room only discount for the 11th night?

[What I am really hoping for is free dining that I can book for 11 nights, but am prepared for them limiting it to 10 nights. But I can dream, right? :wizard: ]

They would be two separate reservations, so I'm thinking it's a possibility, right?

I think I have already lost my mind! Spring fever, move over we all have Disney fever!
As for packing, well I do need a support group for that reason.
As soon as I do book I wil be packing!:rotfl:

ACK I can't wait anymore!!!!!!!!!! I have Disney fever too!

To hold yourself over, I recommend typing in "disney world" at Wikipedia.com and learning all the ins and outs of the entire place. I just read the article about the monorails and how they work. If my DF knew what I was doing, he would so totally make fun of me!!!!! But I can't wait to ride the monorail!

I feel like posting a weepy, whimsical "Why I Love Disney World" article. Maybe that's what we should all do to pass the time!:hourglass

Isn't it if you book a "room only" you can't ever have the dining plan--free or otherwise? I thought it always had to be part of a package, even if you purchase it.

Pam, seriously you can start packing!!There is nothing wrong with you packing now if you want. I know as soon as I book with free dining. That is what I will do. First thing to go in our luggage. From my disney storage vacation chest. Will be our mickey mouse poncho's. My 13 yr old son hates getting wet, but every year I continue to drag him on Kali River rapids. I know bad mommy. But, eh I love that ride!! I think he secretly does too! But, seriously what is wrong with us packing now. Even though, our families probably think we have lost it. Maybe we need to start a support group DEPU. Disney's Early Packers Unite. :lmao:
I am just kidding though, to be honest. I will start packing in May, or June:rotfl: :rotfl:
I'll join the DEPU! I love to pack. I'm surprised I haven't started packing for my May trip yet.:rotfl: I have a Disney vacation box too and I have added a few items to that for August.

Don't forget as long as you don't use your 1 day pass you'll still have to value of that pass that you could use to renew your AP or upgrade to any ticket in the future.:thumbsup2

Disneymom5...Wow 7 kids, I have 6. We too love POP. We are going in July with our 2 youngest. Noone else wants to go!!! I guess you have to get 2 rooms too! This yr I will only have to get 1 but still staying at POP instead of a mod. I love POP!!:cool1:

Ack, the 19th now? I may lose my mind by then. :lmao:

Here's how I figure that one... if that TA is right, then MAYBE the announcement will still be made on the 12th but the Visa holders will get first dibs on it for a week, then 7 days later on the 19th is when it will be released to the general public??
Or maybe she just has her dates wrong! After all, how many different dates have *we* heard??

Sure, that makes sense. What I'm saying (not too well) is I don't understand why Disney gives "room only" codes. Don't they want people to book packages? They stand to make more $$ keeping you on their property 24/7 rather than potentially having you go to McD's for dinner.

I know for sure if you get a room discount you can not get on the DDP at all.
I helped a friend book her trip last summer. From her work she got AKL at $75 a night, she was unable to even purchase the DDP.
So you have to decide what is more benifical to you a room discount or free dinning. I can tell you that in 2005 on the DDP (FREE) we spent well over a 1300 on food. They give you the recipts from each meal.
In 2000 we spent well over this on our own for food in Disney World.

I pretty much did the same thing... there are only 2 adults in my party as well... our current cost is $1189 ... if the room was discounted to $56 a night it would only save us around $100, however if the free dining comes it will save us about $311.... I'll take the $311 please!

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum, however, not new to wdwinfo. I come to this site and read the forums often as I'm always looking for the best deal. This year my family (hus, daughter 6) are going to stay at either AK or WL. I've been coming to this site and disneyworld.com for months looking for the free dining. I'm always getting great information and am praying for the dining deal Oct 6-13. By the way, which resort (AK or WL) do any of you prefer?

Yup, they are all disney freaks too! (Well, maybe not the 10mo., yet. But there is still time. LOL)

My oldest is probably as nuts about disney planning as I am, so no fear of any of them not wanting to go anytime soon.

And I wanted to say, sign me up for DEPU also. Our first trip we booked in Oct. for end of Jan. End of Oct. I was packing stuff and dh walked by the doorway, backed up and said "You're packing?"
Me: "Yup."
DH: "For Thanksgiving at your folks?"
Me: "Ah...no."
DH: "Then what on earth are you packing for..........You're not packing for Disney are you?
Me: "Um...so what's your point?" LOL

Don't think it's not driving me nuts that my family has to WEAR our summer clothes between now and our trip. Sheesh. :confused3 :laundy:

Whew... I thought I was the only one to do that.... I have been going through my clothes tryin to decide what I am going to wear on each day of our trip (including the drive to and back).. The hardest part is to actually NOT pack because I could wear some of these clothes before our trip... since it is 4 months and 22 days away....

LOL!!! Me too I pack early too. I also pack waaaay to much!! My hubby also thinks I'm nuts going on here and the Disney Website all the time!!! I blame him cuz I had no interest in going 2 yrs ago and now I am hooked and he is to blame.....he created a disney monster....hmmmmm wonder what we could call me!!! lol

So what are all your kids names? 4 girls 3 boys? I have 5 boys 1 girl.:goodvibes
