The Official Free Dining Watch 2007 Thread

We booked yesterday for the dining plan whether or not it will be free.. I'd better get my ADRs figured out tonight so I beat the rush if this happens!

the anticipation is killing me, we are currently booked at ASMU with 2 rooms from 9/9-9/16. I am hoping to upgrade to 2 rooms at POR if the free dining comes through. The cost of the upgrade is equal to the free dining savings.
fingers crossed.:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

we are going from sept 23 - sept. 30. If i change our ressie to sept. 22 - sept. 30 - would we get free dining all those days or only the one day?? I am so confused!!!:confused3

If it goes like it has the previous years you would be able to get free dining from Sept. 22-Sept. 30. You just have to make sure you have at least one day during the offer. That is how it worked last year anyway. We will see if it is the same this year.

I am so new to all of this. I have been to Disney twice - just did the MK in June, 2002, and did MK and Epcot in January, 2007. Did not do the DDP either time.

I am now in the process of trying to plan a trip for me, my mom and my sister. We are trying to plan for the week of 8/25-8/30. How in the world does the free dining work? I know no one knows yet if Disney is going to offer it. I'm just wondering how it works if they do decide to offer it? Is it only for Disney Visa card holders or is it for any average Joe Schmoe who plans a package through Disney?

Free dining will definitely not be the deal breaker for us as to whether we go or not, but it would cetainly be icing on the cake!! ;)

Last year, I believe, the Visa card holders got it first by a few days, then it went to the general public. If the reported rumor is true, then your package should start on 8/26. If you are arriving on 8/25 you can do room only for 1 night, then have your park tickets and package start 8/26. A package start date of 8/25 will not work for the free dining (if the rumored start date is true).

I am arriving on 8/24 with my package starting on 8/25. If free dining does become I reality, I will do 2 nights at room only and then start my package/park ticket on 8/26. I have left over WP tickets I can use 8/25.

Hi
Does anyone know if Shades of Green does any kind of promotion to go with the free dining if Disney offers it? If they do, is it usually the same dates?
Thanks for any info.

Thank you very much!! That answers alot for me. It wouldn't be a problem for us to do one night of hotel and have the package start the next day. The 25th is when we would be arriving and not doing anything, anyway.

Thank you, again!! I really appreciate it! :flower3:

Also, where is the place to read or see information about the dining plan and how it works? Is there a recent message board on this?

If free dining comes out and I cancel my 40% off reservation to book with free dining, then will they apply whatever I have paid toward my 40% off to the new reservation? Or will I have to start all over, make a $200 deposit, and get a refund from my canceled reservation?

As you probably already know, SOG is completely separate from Disney. However, if I remember correctly, it seems like last year they had a special package that included breakfast everyday in the Garden Galley (?) along with a small discount. Just check their website from time to time and click on the tab that says "Specials".

(IMO -- You'd still be better off trying to book a Disney room eligible for free DDP if the promo is offered.)

If your 40% is for a room-only reservation, they will credit the deposit and collect a new one. If the current reservation is for a package, they just transfer the deposit to the new reservation. I believe they do this because the room-only's require a one-night deposit, while the packages only require $200 regardless of what the total is.

I think you'll have to rebook with a totally new ressie. I had a similar situation....
When I booked the first time without the 40% off i had to cancel the first ressie and make a totally new one with the 40% off, they refunded me the $200 deposit from the first ressie and I had to leave a $319 deposit for the new reservation. (I think I had to leave $319 because I had gotten the trip insurance and since it was less than 14 days from the time I orignally booked, I didn't lose the trip insurance, I just had to pay for that up front) It took about a week for the refund to go through.

well the wait is killing me! :scared1: But we are going with or w/o freeing dining!!! but it would so make me happy to get free dining!!

ive called twice and asked about free dining and got so different anwers!!! one cm told me to check back in apirl! and the other one told me she never heard of free dinning!!! but i think the one who had no clue had no about anything disney!!!!

Subscribing....

Fingers, legs, arms everything is crossed.....

Going by what I've read so far I don't think we'll get it. Our dates are 8/9 - 8/21.

We booked Yacht Club concierge using the 40% off discount and used the IPO to book a couple of dining reservations for us. I'm now thinking that if they offer free dining I'll switch us over to Wilderness Lodge to take advantage of the offer since I can't afford full price for YC concierge. Does anybody know if the dining reservations made by the Yacht Club IPO will be cancelled or are they just like other dining reservations that aren't tied to your hotel reservation?
