Yep, that's what I think. It was written in & then Charlie said something unexpected. Made their comments look tacky. Maybe a writer should always be standing by to make quick adjustments. The hosts can usually think on their feet & make updates if they are good comics, but the presenters usually need someone scripting it for them.

It is all scripted and they may not have known what he was going to do and their bit remained.

If we blame the writers for the bad jokes--we can't blame this one on Jon and Ashton.

I also didn't think their bit was bad. Charlie never apologized about the troll comment (that I recall) until tonight.

They have live writers during the Oscars to change or add stuff depending on what goes on during the show. One time Jack Palance got up on stage & started doing push ups. Billy Chrystal turned it into a running joke all evening.

Doesn't seem like this years Emmys had much in the way of anything of quality.

No...it just happened at the beginning of the entrance of Katie Holm and Brian Kranton(?)

It just went off about 6 times after they called Julia Margolises announcement that she won.

But, it happens during applause, too. It's been driving me nuts. I wonder if something metal isn't anchored down properly and too much vibration makes it chime?

It looks like she put absolutely no effot into getting ready for the show. You think with all that money her husband has she would look like a million dollars.
