Seth Meyers is hosting. popcorn::

Oprah Winfrey is receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award.

As for the all black outfits, there are over 300 powerful women in the entertainment industry like producer Shonda Rhimes, and A-lister actresses like Reese Witherspoon, Eva Longoria, Emma Stone, Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, who have formed a coalition in Hollywood called, Time's Up, in solidarity :grouphug: against the sexual harassment within the show biz industry and other industries. They will be purposely wearing a black outfit, SO that when asked on the Red Carpet who they are wearing and why, they can speak up, over and over (and possibly over and over,) about the cause. Some men like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, are joining in solidarity too. As the men are already wearing black tuxes or suits, I guess look for black shirts too? :confused3

Everyone is invited. Newbies welcome! :welcome: Load up on munchies & drinks, wine & booze welcome. Including the Red Carpet, it's 5 hours depending on when you arrive or if you stay for the whole event! Pop in any time throughout! popcorn::

A little heads up for newbies: The Red Carpet segment goes really quickly on this thread. People are typing like crazy all at the same time, seeing different dresses on 2 different channels. (On E! and NBC.)

If you post something or ask a question and it seems to get ignored :( you are NOT being ignored. ) Everyone is just watching, typing & posting so quickly before the dress goes off the screen. We do most of the reading, scrolling back & posting back to each others comments during the COMMERCIALS! :surfweb: Your posts will get a response then. :hyper2:

Once the show starts, it slows down to a more comfortable pace. Just hang in with us! It's going to be a great evening. :hyper2: :lmao:  :sad2: :thumbsup2

Golden Globes 2015: 10 fun facts about Hollywood’s most free-spirited awards show

From: http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/golden-globes-2015-10-fun-facts-show-article-1.2070172

1. The stars can eat –if they arrive on time

Even though the Globes serve a three-course meal catered by the Beverly Hilton Hotel’s chefs, dinner is served to nominees and guests closer to lunch time around 3:30 p.m. Why so early? Producers don’t want dining noises, such as the clinking of silverware, to be heard during the telecast. So by the time the show begins at 5 p.m. PST, dinner has already been served. The good news: The attendees are still served alcohol, which is why guests often seem tipsy (and get tipsier) throughout the three-hour show.

2. Drinking with the stars

The champagne will definitely be flowing during the glitzy event, with 400 magnums of Moet & Chandon made available for guests, one bottle per table. The celebs can get even get the party started early, since 1,500 bottles of Moet minis will be given out on the red carpet.

3. Mixing and mingling

During commercial breaks, the stars love to get up and mingle with each other, exchanging pleasantries, air kisses and posing for selfies. The banquet-style seating encourages these kinds of casual interactions, but since it’s a live broadcast, those freewheeling conversations sometimes mean it’s a scramble to get attendees back into their seats on time. In order to get the A-listers seated before the show comes back on air, announcements are made at mid-commercial break and at the one-minute mark so stars can make their way back to their seats.

4. Amy Poehler and Tina Fey (the 2014 hosts) belong to a very exclusive club

In the history of the 72-year-old awards show, just six celebrities have hosted the Golden Globes. Besides this year’s returning hosts Fey and Poehler, the show has only been emceed by four other people: Andy Williams (mid-1960s), John Larroquette and Janine Turner (1995) and Ricky Gervais (2011-2013) and this year again.

Poehler is also the only host to win a Golden Globe while hosting the show, winning for her lead role on “Parks and Recreation” in 2014.

5. Frank Sinatra unwittingly started an A-list tradition

The Golden Globes are hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, whose members are comprised of journalists. HFPA members were tasked with handing out the awards until the Globes were hijacked by the Rat Pack in 1958, when Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. “stormed the stage with whiskey and cigarettes in tow” to hand out the trophies. The HFPA asked the trio to repeat their performance the following year, and celebs have been tasked with giving out awards on stage ever since.

6. Celebs skipped the 2008 Golden Globes

Out of solidarity with the Writers Guild of America writers strike, no actors attended the awards show that year. Instead, the winners were announced via a live news conference hosted by entertainment news personalities. So how did the winners finally receive their awards? According to TV Guide’s oral history about the 2008 Globes, “Entourage” star Jeremy Piven was given his statuette in his driveway.

7. Not a Golden Globes nominee? Good luck getting in!

While it’s one of the most coveted tickets in town, it’s also one of the hardest to get, especially if you’re not nominated. Held annually at the Hilton’s International Ballroom, the space holds 111 tables. With 10-12 people seated at each table, that means less than 1,300 people will score invites to one of Hollywood’s biggest nights. To compare, the Dolby Theater, which hosts the Academy Awards, seats 3,400 people.

8. The Globes is also the rare awards show with empty seats

Unlike other awards shows, the Golden Globes use no seat fillers. So when Clooney goes up to collect his Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award, no seat filler will take his place.

9. The Golden Globe weighs more than you think

When someone wins an award for the first time, he or she generally remarks on heavy the statuette feels. When it comes to the Globes, there’s a reason for this, since the trophy weighs 5.5 pounds. To give some perspective, that’s about the average weight of a bulldog puppy.

10. The event’s red carpet is almost as long as Noah'’s Ark

Noah'’s Ark, which in Biblical lore housed two of every animal on Earth, is generally considered to have measured 450 feet in length. Keep that in mind when you see the Golden Globe red carpet, since it measures around 437 feet –which should be just enough to fit nearly every movie and TV star in Hollywood.

I keep hearing that some plan to really get political. I hope that they keep it under control.

I love the actresses up for best performance in a comedy or musical. Good stuff.

Many always wear black anyway. Good thing to support though.

I think the idea is that when they are asked who they are wearing on the red carpet, they can all have a common color to show solidarity against sexual harassment and use that as an opening to talk about it. I haven't heard anything about the show being too political though.

It's a good cause. . . until we hear about it for the 25th time and it becomes less effective because of hearing it too much. :headache:

However, if they are busy talking about this cause, it may divert them from being political about other issues too. :rolleyes1 That would be a good thing. :thumbsup2 Not everyone wants to be Sean Penn. And I don't tune into these award shows to listen to political views. Other venues for that.

Going to try an join for this one, I have been unable for the last few. Thanks for hosting Imzadi:worship:

Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama:
Jason Bateman, “Ozark”
Sterling K. Brown, “This is Us”
Freddie Highmore, “The Good Doctor”
Bob Odenkirk, “Better Call Saul”
Liev Schreiber, “Ray Donovan”

This category is going to be a nail bitter for me. AGH. I'm rooting for first three. If I had to choose I guess it be Sterling just because I like the show a little bit better then other 2 but Freddie is amazing.

I agree! Freddie does an amazing job in that show, but the show itself isn't nearly as well done as "This is Us". I kind of hope Freddie does win since I think Sterling won last year.

Has anyone seen Christopher Plummer in All the Money in the World? He's nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture. He replaced Kevin Spacey after Spacey was outed for sexual harassment. He only had a few weeks to prepare & film the role and basically saved a movie that would have otherwise gotten scrapped.

(I assume Christopher Plummer is way too busy to be reading this thread, or I wouldn't be speculating on this. ;) :ssst:) Does anyone know how good Christopher Plummer is in this role? Is it really evident that he is nomination worthy? That he is totally commendable for throwing himself into quite a challenging situation and he succeeded? OR is it possible that Plummer did an obvious so-so performance, (given he had so little time to prepare,) yet has been nominated by the Hollywood Foreign Press as a sign of solidarity against sexual harassment? There I said it. :duck: Their message being, "Spacey you pervey ***, had you kept your hands, talk and other body parts to yourself, YOU could have been the one nominated (and possibly winning) instead of Plummer. This goes also for any of the rest of you sexual predators who think you are too powerful, too talented to be fired or replaced, that you ARE replaceable and by someone else who can win instead." :p

I saw the movie and he was very, very good in it. So much so, I could not have pictured Spacey (pre- or post- perv revelations) in the role. Christopher Plummer is a darn good actor, so I wasn't surprised.

Here. I may only be present for about 40 mins of the red carpet. But i'm looking forward to it!

Doubt I will be around. Been sick this weekend and I have to be up at 6AM for work.
