I wonder if they are the wives of writers & directors and some of the other awards, and weren't able to get, or weren't allowed to get a black dress, as that is somehow reserved for the A-lister actresses?

I imagine the designers were scrambling during the past few weeks to get more black designer outfits ready.

I wondered that too... maybe they already had their dresses before and couldn't find someone to re-do it for them as they were too busy with the A listers.

Yes, I remember when a female producer won an Oscar for Best Short Documentary, and during her acceptance speech she said that her dress cost more than it took to make the whole film. If I bought an expensive dress, before the black dress announcement, that couldn't be returned, I'd be wearing it!

I don't think the show ever recovered after Joan Rivers died and Giuliana made an unfortunate comment about Zendaya that wasn't considered funny as Giuliana isn't a comedienne.
