Let's see after this weekend. I'll be curious to see your post(s) after that. So there's NO school that is MORE overrated than VT, in the whole country? That's fine. And actually, a lot of good sportswriters disagree a lot with you about Marcus Vick. Most actually believe that at this stage of his career, he is much better than Mike. He has a better touch on the pass, he is just as quick, if not quicker, and he makes better decisions. His off-the-field antics aside (this is, I thought, about college football, not college life), he is leading a really great team really well this year, I think.

Let's talk Monday...
No, I don't see a team that is more overrated at this point. While the VaTech defense is stellar, the offense is not at ALL impressive. Vick's high in passing for his career is just barely over 200 yards, and he has fewer rushing yards than either of our quarterbacks. So...what, exactly, is so impressive about him ? :confused3

Would those be the same sportswriters that picked Michigan and Oklahoma in the top 5 in the preseason ? :rotfl:

I'll be here Monday, win or lose.

Actually I was reading an article online either on ESPN or foxsports this week that stated they thought VT was the most overrated team right now. I tried to find the llink to post it but was unsuccessful

Vick is top-10 in the country in QB rating and has helped make VT top-15 in scoring. Maybe that's where it's coming from. Personally, I'm holding off on praise or criticism until I see him play some more.

But as for the team being overrated, the offense is working well. The defense and special teams are rolling. I'm not looking forward to playing them. I mean... I think ECU and Dook are fairly evenly matched, at least they were in their game this season. VT gave up 45 yards of total offense to Dook (at Dook - though the stadium was full of maroon and orange anyway). WVU gave up 287 yards of total offense to ECU at home at Mountaineer Field. What does that tell you?

Anyway, WVU will obviously have an advantage playing at home tomorrow. It could really be a good one. I'll definitely be watching.

Good Stat resource

Here are Vick's passing numbers so far this year: 10-21, 108 (NC St); 12-19, 172 (Dook); 12-16, 200 (Ohio); 13-18, 223. He's also rushed for a grand total of 57 whole yards. Sorry, but those numbers aren't likely to scare anybody, without the name "Vick" attached to them. Their offense is good, but ours will be the best defense they've faced this year by far.

What does that tell me ? Absolutely nothing. WVU currently sits fourth in the country in total defense, and VPI is fourth. If they get out of Morgantown with a win, and can continue to win a few through the ACC schedule, I'll give them credit for doing so. But as of right now, they haven't done anything but beat a decent team with an ailing quarterback (Georgia Tech) and a 1-2 NC State team that just lost to North Carolina. Sorry, I'm not buying it just yet. I've seen the CHokies built up too many times over the years, only to watch them crumble. They just don't play well as favorites (and as a Mountaineer fan, believe me, I should recognize that trait).

We'll see...The Hokies have only won big one time in our place, and it was just four years ago. Two out of the last three times they've come to Mountaineer Field, they were undefeated and ranked #3 in the country. The first time, it took a scramble by the elder Vick and a long field goal to pull out the win (that was the year they played F$U for the title). The second, they came in ranked...but went home spanked. :teeth: Let's hope this week is a repeat of that second trip, and not the first...lol

You'll note that I said I'm holding off praise or criticism until I see more. But I think it's silly for a team that struggled with East Carolina at home to be spouting off about VT being overrated.

And yes, NC State just lost to UNC. Color me happy! :teeth:
Memorial Stadium in Champaign, IL for an Illini game is the worst I've ever been to. the OB just has 'character'... ;) come on, we recruit our defense right out of jails, we need to keep them in their element. Coach Coker has said that games are won outside the OB as the opposing team's bus is driving up to the stadium. you've got to love that. but that's why college football is the greatest, the traditions and the rivalries. Raymond James Stadium is very nice, but it it doesn't have the 'feeling' that the OB, Doak, or Swamp has.
It is a pit, but many great memories there, and some bad ones. Getiing wet from overflow dring stands while waiting to enter is so much fun.

Got a good QB there in Wright

And nobody is beating USC this year. That team ought to be playing on Sundays instead of Saturdays. They could probably give a handfull of NFL teams all they could handle. Just scary good.
No one's unbeatable. Explosive offensive teams always seem more unbeatable than defensively oriented teams. And the worst NFL team would clock them without pause. That said, the appear to be a great team - that's not taking anything away from them, just stating the reality

Florida State is my favorite team. Our main rivals are Miami and UF.

The best college team would NEVER be able to beat the worst NFL team, since the players in the NFL are the best of the best. The guys in the NFL are way faster and way bigger. People used to say that about Miami, too, and then one day, they lost. USC's time is coming.
Pretty smart for a Nole ;>

Give me USC and you take the Texans or Cardinals, and I'll take my chances. :teeth: Seriously, I know you're probably right, but I've been a fan for an awful long time, and I don't recall ever being as impressed with an offense as I am with the current team at USC. Best QB in the nation. Most dangerous running back in the nation. Great offensive line. Talented receivers. GREAT system. If their defense doesn't let them down, I can't see anyone in college football touching them this year.
UF96 could match that offense

The Swamp is insane. I've only had first row seats once and my ears were in serious serious pain when I left. Lane's pretty loud, especially when you sit near the Skipper. But I've not been since they finished the upgrades. I totally expect the WVU/VATech game this weekend to be crazy... at least in the first quarter.
Been on the field art the end of the 91 UT game. It is truly loud. Good crowd and buzz two weeks ago for the Vols.

GO BUCKEYES!! BTW, great game Longhorns. Anytime you can come into the Horseshoe at night and come out with a win, my hat's off to you.

Enemies, of course the Maize and Blue. But I don't so much hate them as I hate losing to them. I actually respect UM and hope they're 10-0 each year until the 3rd Sat in Nov. Teams I love to hate? Miami & FSU.

And just to comment on some earlier threads, FSU has won 2 titles, not 3. And Miami would never have won as many MNC's as they did if they had played in a real conference (read: not the Big Least). Every once in a while a semi-hard game against WVU or Syracuse, but otherwise cupcakes like Temple and Rutgers. Had they been in the SEC, Big-10 or Big-12, they might have won 2. You can say the same for FSU's 14-year run of top-five finishes. Sure they were great, but the ACC in those days was only marginally better than the Big East. Would never have happened in a power conference.

And LOL--if anyone's ever been to a sold-out OB, it surely wasn't' for a Canes' game--maybe there was a concert or something. The OB is not an intimidating place to play. Most intimidating stadiums? Probably enough for a entire different thread. In no particular order:Ohio State, Florida, Texas A&M, Tennessee, LSU, Virginia Tech, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, yeah, I guess Michigan too.

1 - We didn't "struggle" with East Carolina. We jumped out to a 20-3 lead, then went into a shell where we ran about three different plays the rest of the game. Yes, we had to make a play at the end to preserve the victory. And we did. But even if we were 0-4 instead of 4-0, that wouldn't change the fact that VT is overrated. :teeth:

2 - Spurrier is a juvenile...um...I can't say what I really think without the word filter catching it...lol.

3 - The USC offense has a shot at averaging nearly a point a minute this year. They can score from anywhere on the field, at any time. If they had a "big time" receiver like Williams was, they would definitely be the best offense I've ever seen in college. Even without it, it's close. Yes, Florida had some pretty good teams back in Spurrier's heyday...but I'm not convinced that they could score with this Trojan team. Now, they may have beaten this USC squad, simply because their defenses were much better than USC's, but that's another debate altogether.

The offense is not impressive? Their last 3 games the combined score has been 141-7, but you're right, that's not impressive. But, I bet that 200-7 wouldn't have impressed you either. Vick doesn't need to pass a lot, when you're up by that many points in a game, do you see most teams passing the ball, or rushing? That's right, you run the clock down and leave with no injuries. You don't sit in the pocket and pass. You have watched football, right? But I guess WVU never gets those huge leads, so you might not know what that's like :)

Be nice, or I might have to bring up a certain SuperDome experience in the New Year of 1994.

Our 96 team could score with this Trojan Team. I'm sure
