The Official December 2009 Car Rental Thread

Did you register a 2010 entertainment book? I did, and when I go into car rentals, the third discount from the bottom on the Alamo list is for a two car class upgrade.
Thanks, that just saved me another $10. :thumbsup2 I was using the one class in the book.

You're very welcome! On a side note, my mother said she met you on one of her trips to WDW a few years back. She was there in December 2004 with my niece, and shared a fireworks cruise with some other folks from the Dis. The night my mom & niece went to MVMCP they had dinner at Liberty Tree Tavern, and you were there having dinner with the people she shared the cruise with. Her name is Mary - HappyGramma here on the Dis.

OMG, these rates are so OUTRAGEOUS!! I need a car for the weekend only, 12/18 -12/21. My dates/times are not flexible, since I'll be in for a non-Disney family thing. For the past few weeks, both Alamo and National are around $97/DAY for a Compact!
I'll keep trying, but right now I'm thinking I'll have to explore alternative transportation. :sad2:

Not sure why but carrentalsavers.com list Avis having compacts for $34 a day for your dates. Every other company is in the $80-$90 range. Might be worth checking out.

Plus, she can use the coupon here: http://www.avis.com/car-rental/cont...20-off-weekend-US_en-008402&ICID=DealsLanding and save $15 off the $111 rate for an Intermediate car when using the K199060 code.

K9pal, I would book that weekend at Avis and then try fishing on Priceline when you get a little closer.

Hey all! I'm new to the Transportation forum.

I'm AAA and BJ's member.

Any good rates for 12/10 - 12/14? Economy class is fine.

Welcome! I would suggest that you go through the codes mentioned here on this thread and try them out. You can also go to MouseSavers: http://www.mousesavers.com/rentalcar.html and try Mary's codes. They are all 100% legitimate. In your case, I would also concentrate on and special weekend rates and/or weekend coupons.

I don't know how big your family is, but if there are more than just one or two of you I would suggest renting at least a Compact. Economy cars are really small and don't really save any more than a couple dollars per day.

Howdy stranger. I have the same dates in mind.:goodvibes

Just me and a friend coming in for a long weekend. Is the price you list above good in comparison? ($30 a day too much?)

$120 is a starting point. I would start with travelocity or another similar site to get an idea of how much non-discounted prices are and then go to Mousesavers and run the codes yourself for other quotes. It always more expensive per day for rentals shorter than a week. Places like Hotwire and Priceline can also save you money on car rentals but you need to wait closer to your dates. I have had successful bids for as little as $15 per day for a compact but that was done a couple of weeks before my trip.

We are going to the world Dec 26 and returning Jan 7. I have tried lots and lots of codes and companies. The cheapest I have found for full size is National at $446(using $35 coupon) or intermediate $438(no coupon) at carrental. I know there are many that are much higher, but I would love to not have to buy the car. Has anyone lately found something cheaper? any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

I realize this is a December thread, but I've been looking for mid January and have been outraged by the rates, even with corp. ID's and promo codes. Just to see where we really stood, I tried Priceline for a minivan at MCO. I started low, bidding $28 a day and as expected, it was rejected. Today, 2 days later I was invited to bid again and tried $30 which was accepted! That totals out to just under $304 a week with all taxes and fees. It's through Alamo, so we don't take a shuttle: the van will be right there in the airport.
I've always had good luck with Priceline.

I just booked with National a Intermediate SUV (Saturn Vue or similar) from 12/02 to 12/10 for $379.36 which makes it $38.00 per day. We are spending 4 nights @ SSR and then picking my parents up for 6 nights @ VBR. My husband is flying in to meet with us after a class he has been taking for The Army and will have a bunch of equipment with him so we really needed the SUV.

Anyway I used the Air Tran Contract Code: 6600422 (you have to be a member but it's free to join) and the coupon code: ND1276FDT for $35 off a weekly rental with a Saturday stayover.

Originally when I started looking for an SUV it was up around $600! Yikes!

For National, my estimate has come down each weekend for 3 weekends. Keep checking for December. It is time for the cost to down.

i can't remember if it was SW or AT's corporate code or whether it was alamo or national  that resulted in a daily surchage to my ressie once in the past.

im not sure if they still have that policy or not....as i recall it wasn't much, approx $20.

Anybody know if surcharge still appliespopcorn::

anyone have any luck with rates from the CCC? We always rent from them so we can get a smaller car, take DME from airport. But not finding great rates. I hate to go without a car, especially since we are having dinner at different resorts.
