The Official December 2009 Car Rental Thread

congrats!

im never happy;)

DH doesn't get why im rather fixated on finding the lowest price for rental car on leisure travel. IMO, it's one of the few costs you can actually control re vacation, and then there's the thrill of the hunt:laughing:

For my dates which are late December the prices are still over $600.00 even when I apply both codes. . Has anyone had any luck with late Dec. dates?

use the car & driver code 3715444 for National

for a intermediate the weekly rate is $261. i got this for a 2 week period for 12/23 to 01/06. with all the taxes it's $661.

there's also an upgrade coupon that you can find on mousavers national. but don't use the contract code, replace it with the car and driver code.

We are flying into Sanford (got a great deal on Allegiant). The one way rental was the best deal for us since we won't be using the car once we are there. I am renting with Avis using corporate code b123600 (AT&T employee code) and getting a full size for $51.34 from the airport to the Hilton and on the way back it will be $44.xx (less taxes).

Just got $181 for Fullsize from 12/2 - 12/10 from Alamo with Costco discount and $30 coupon listed on Mousesavers -- AD2123JMC.

It's been dropping every day for the last few days, I'm delighted to get under $200!

MackeyApp...this combination for National is the best I have found.
Code: 5004625
Coupon: ND1276FDT ($35)
Price is same for Intermediate, Standard or Full-Size .
for twelve days the cost with everything is $446
When coupon for $40 becomes available that will make it a little less.
Our dates are from 12/26 thru 1/7

Hope this helps!

OK, what's the deal with this code? I used it or one like it last week to book a rental with Alamo and got the $30 discount, no problem. Now when I try to price out a new reservation using the same code, it says it can't be applied to my reservation. Is it cuz we're staying til the 16th? I though you only had to pick up by the 15th - which is why they gave us the discount on our old reservation... :confused3

Was this the base rate? If so......great find!!!

cautionary head's up...

this is State of GA rate code (as in for employees usage). It includes free LDW (loss damage waiver).

Not a good thing if you were to get into an accident while driving a car using a contract ID to which you were not entitled to receive the LDW coverage, as you could easily be liable for any damages.

Taking out LDW (even if indirectly, through a contract ID) may not only change any credit card's secondary coverage you use for supplemental coverage; but it may also effect your personal car insurance carrier's responsibility (i.e. they could balk at paying any claim):confused3

Im not telling anybody not to use the code, im just saying...:rolleyes1

My FULL SIZE, 15 day rental with National over Christmas just dropped again. Base rate is now $285.76 ($388.70 with taxes). I think this is a good rate for 15 days especially over Christmas. My dates are Dec. 12-27. I used the Entertainment code/coupon.

You could also be asked for proof of being a GA state employee which I assume that you are not. Then you will be forced to pay the current "rack rate" for the car :scared1:.

I was checking on National code 5007160 and it looks like it is an Amex code. Is this correct? And would I need to actually pay for the rental using an Amex card? Or just be able to produce the card if asked.
Thanks.

As long as you have an AMEX card in your posession, you will be OK. I am also using an AMEX code 5125601, but have an AMEX card in my profile so I'll be OK too.

According to BOTH mousesavers and fatwallet, 5007160 is a Contential Airlines FF code. I actually joined just to make it legit.

For dates Dec 27 - Jan 2, National's 3715444 code has given me the best rates by far. Unfortunately we're not staying over a Saturday so can't use the coupon mentioned a few posts above.

I keep checking Alamo for my dates of 12/4-12/15 and I don't see it going down as of yet.

Using various codes, I get $216 or $226. I have a current reservation for $182 with the Costco codes, so I think I will stick to that.

I am going to check with Budget just to compare. Anyone else see in-terminal rates better than $182?
