The Official Clay Aiken Discussion Thread

Thanks for posting the URL for that article! Very interesting. Do we know why the judges are so indifferent to Clay?? Is it just because he's doing better than Ruben? Why would they hold that against Clay? I must be missing something.

kimberle...every now and then, MTV does this vault thing. they will take calls from viewers and whatever video gets voted for the most gets locked up in the vault the next day. it's only for one day though...then it comes back out the day after the lock up. they did this with invisible...the claynation spoke when it was eligible for the countdown again and it was number 1.

i heard from my friend this morning that clay agreed to do the AI3 performance, but HE said he didn't want to hear anything from the judges. don't know if it's true or not...but if it is, i'm glad that it was on his terms. he doesn't need the judges to tell him how great he is. he's got the fanbase that tells him!

i did catch a review of the dallas concert for clay and kelly. anyone see this?

Review: Show full of thanks

Idols Clarkson, Aiken please crowd at Nokia Live

GRAND PRAIRIE – There's no better place to be barefoot than when you're at home.
Burleson native Kelly Clarkson opted to stay shoeless during most of her concert Friday night at Nokia Live, at which fellow American Idol alum Clay Aiken was her co-headliner. While the barefoot thing is her trait on this tour, she seemed especially relaxed and happy to see familiar faces in the audience.
"My friends are in the crowd – everybody give it up for my friends," she said, pointing them out, then adding, "They're screaming for themselves. That's not cool."
Ms. Clarkson started with her single "Low," showing off her newly acquired guitar skills.
In contrast to Mr. Aiken's ballad-heavy performance, her show had an R&B feel, featuring more up-tempo songs heavy on bass. On "You Thought Wrong," a duet from her Thankful CD with fellow Idol contestant Tamyra Gray, the audience was treated to a surprise when Ms. Gray showed up to sing along. (At least one other contestant from their season was in attendance; Grand Prairie resident Nikki McKibbin was spotted before the show.)
But Ms. Clarkson sounded best in the slower songs that were all about her still-stunning voice. "Beautiful Disaster," accompanied only by piano, was a hit with the fans, who expressed their affection loudly.
Her biggest crowd pleaser was "Miss Independent," performed with a little extra oomph, as well as the closing number of the show, "Open Arms," a duet with Mr. Aiken.
While Ms. Clarkson had love from the audience, Mr. Aiken had downright adoration. Coming out from a side door singing Mr. Mister's "Kyrie," the crowd was on its feet from that point on as he sang songs from his triple-platinum Measure of a Man.
Remember that goofball version of Mr. Aiken from Idol – the one who sang "Grease" wearing a red-leather jacket while displaying an appalling lack of rhythm? He's gone, replaced by an ultra-confident, laid-back, rhythmically competent, bedroom-eyed hunk. It's official: Clay is sexy.
But he's still the same non-threatening boy inside; Mr. Aiken continued to win over the audience by chatting with the fans in the front row, at one point taking a cellphone from someone and talking to the woman on the other end.
Like Ms. Clarkson, he also impressed with his crystal-clear voice. When he sang "Invisible," he had the crowd jumping along with him on the beat (again, let it be known that he now has rhythm). They then swooned during his ballads, including his new single, "The Way."
After performing an acoustic medley of classics such as "Carolina in My Mind" and "Fields of Gold," Mr. Aiken tackled an ultra-slow version of Prince's "When Doves Cry," before bringing it up to normal tempo. It was a risky move, but he pulled it off.

just an fyi...in case you missed it the first time...

clay's appearance on the tonight show will be on thursday night and his SNL appearance is running this saturday night!

Hi everyone,

DH bought me tickets to the Kelly / Clay concert here in Chicago last night for Valentines Day. All I can say is WOW!!! THey were both excellent!!! They are both so down to earth and appreciative for everything they have. If anyone has any questions about the concert, please post or PM me.
Christine

Congrats, my friend and I went to the Charlotte and Winston Salem shows. We had a great time, Clay sure knows how to work the crowd.

Sales info for this week from Hits Daily Double:

MOAM sold 40,169 copies, double what sold last week putting MOAM at #20!!!!!!!!

I guess that American Idol appearance was good for something!!!

Way to go Clay with MOAM sales. I guess Wednesday we see how this new single CD did.

I do have to say that I can hardly watch AI this season. Tonight was a looooooong 2 hours. I will only watch the result show tomorrow to see Kimberly Locke sing. I have not heard her new single so will be anxious to hear her sing. Wonder if the judges will comment to her.

That's wonderful!! I think he was at around 57 last week, and 74 the week before!

I wonder how his single sales are? I bet we'll see him at #1 this week. I bought it, Solitaire is wonderful!!

Does anyone have his & Rub's total sales? Someone posted them several weeks ago. (I don't remember who.)

TIA!!

OK first Hits Daily Double was WAY off!!! Soundscan has now reported approx 24,000 sold. This puts Clay at #47. Still not bad!!

The Swingle hs reportedly sold 100,000 copies making it the #4 single this week!!! Very good considering it had very little advertising and was only sang once by Clay on AI3.

Billboard Hot 100: Top 20

2. "One Call Away," Chingy (feat. J. Weav). Disturbing tha Peace.
3. "Tipsy," J-Kwon. So So Def.
4. "Solitaire," Clay Aiken. RCA.

Shouldn't that be "The Way" Since it is the "A" track, and Solitaire the "B" Track?

Not necessarily. I think the charts are drivin by air play besides sales. Back in my "day", when we actually listened to 45's & taped our fav's off the radio, I do remember a few (by very big artists) that had both "A" & "B" hits on the charts.

Usually, the "A" side is the main song, with the "B" as sort of filler/bonus. In my "day", most people listened to the "A" side. Occasionally, the "B" side would become an equal hit or more of a hit thus taking the record making exec's by suprise.

*I* think in the case of Clay's latest single, it is a marketing move to drive more single CD sales (of which the market had dwindled considerably). They knew us "rabid" fans would want a song that wasn't on his CD and his borderline fans might invest a few $$$'s in a single rather than his long CD.

Clive Davis is a smart man. *I* think he's using Clay & other AI singers to help boost that declining single market.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

MoaM's Soundscan tally for this week is 24,222, for a total of 2,435,686 copies sold .

the exact Soundscan tally for the SWingle this week...Clay topped the Single Sales chart with 100,413 copies sold.

No one has been able to figure out why Solitaire is the main song listed on the charts. But we'll take it!!!

According to Billboards hot 100, Clay debuted at #4.

MOM climbed back up to #47 (I think).

Congrat's Clay!

*yawn* I tried sssoooooo hhhaaarrrdddd to stay up to see Clay on SNL. But I fell asleep again, about 15 minutes into the show...

Kim Locke was live on my radio station this am. She was coming on just as I pulled into my building. So disapointed to have been *thisclose* to have missed her.

What are ya'll doing back on page 5?!
*LOL*

I saw an interview with Randy Jackson on E last night. It was short, maybe 5 minutes. He said he had his fav's for this years comp., but wouldn't predict who he thought would/should win. He only said that he hopes Jennifer makes the top 5 (she was his wildcard pick).

He seemed kindof like a "proud papa" talking about Kelly, Clay, Rub & Kim L. He's just so thrilled for their success. He saw Rub's concert & is planning on seeing Kelly/Clay (when they hit LA, I think). He was so happy that Rub, Clay, & Kim were the top 3 last year as he thought they were the most talented.

All in all, very nice, genuine interview.

hey everyone...

no new clay news right now that i'm aware of.

i'm at home today...i had what amounted to a small seizure on the way to work this morning. thankfully, my hubby was driving! we're going to call my doctor soon...
