The Official Clay Aiken Discussion Thread

Not sure about a Grammy appearance - as far as I know, nothing's been announced, although I do know he wasn't nominated. At all. For anything. In any category.

*taking a moment to compose myself*

Um, but that doesn't mean he won't show up as a presenter. We'll just have to keep an ear open for any news!! I do enjoy seeing Clay all dapper!! :groom:

(Mind you, the Claymates have been in full force constructing their "it's a conspiracy" theory and vowing to boycott the show entirely, and if they really did embark on a mail campaign, they may have gotten him uninvited!!)

As far as the "this is what Clay will look like in 30 years" comment...Barry is a true recycler. If people think a line is funny, he uses it over and over and OVER...sometimes he forgets that there are quite a few people who've heard it already. It makes him laugh, he keeps using it. *shrug*

Not to mention, people of course have mentioned the comparison in the last couple of years. It's hard to ignore when many, MANY of their mannerisms are quite similar (same vocal coach - go figure!) ;)

Oh for pitty's sake, I really hope they are not doing *that*! I love Clay & his music, but there are much more important things in life that *that*!

I think *that* is why radio stations refused to play his music when MOM came out.

People need to relax & "chill", Clay's doing just FINE! ::yes::

I wish I was exaggerating, but I'm really not - that's why I just shake my head at some of these people. And the scary part is that they're a pretty big ARMY of people - it's not just a couple of fans here and there.

Here's a thread (which I had no part of) to look at, if you're in the mood. I didn't read more than three posts on the topic because I know where I think it's going, but I'm pretty sure it proves the point.

And I agree with you - I don't think Clay really cares if he's the biggest pop star in the world, I don't really even think he cares how much money he makes or how many records he sells at the end of the day, as long as someone, somewhere still listens to him. And I'm not just talking music - as long as he has the opportunity to speak out about things he cares about, I don't really think he gives a flying hoot how many spins he gets.

Just my opinion though - I don't know the guy. He could be sitting in a penthouse suite somewhere, fanning out 100 dollar bills and stacking gold coins for all I know.

I know that this group latest focus is that Dr. Phil is looking for Claymates to have on his show. That started thread with about 24 pages and sending off emails blah blah blah.

Some of these women get really nasty when they post. Heaven help someone when they don't agree with what they say. Some teenage girl posted awhile back that she saw Clay in an airport going through customs and this group called her all sorts of names and that they would have know if Clay had been out of the country. Well, turns out that is when Clay had been in Ireland and yes her story was true. But that group of women think they know all of Clay's travel plans and where he is at all time and heaven help those that disagree.

The Clayboards are like my entertainment to see how crazy some people are.
However, I will say that you do know most of the time when something is happening before anyone else. Like his concerts, CD releases, TV appearance.

Baby its cold outside (9 degrees) and snowing. Wish I was in WDW I saw on the Weather Channel it is in the 70's.

 His book is #30 this week, for the 10th week on the NYTimes non-fiction bestsellers list.

Hope he's having a good rest & getting lots of wonderful ideas for his new CD.

Yeah, I give them credit for being up on the news, which is the only reason I scan those boards. Which reminds me - the latest "rumor" is that Clay will be appearing on an episode of Scrubs in February (supposedly the third Tuesday). Someone posted that she was at the live taping, which, naturally, many of the Claymates refused to believe. Whatever - I'll take it as a heads up to keep my eyes open.

In other heads up - he's done the PSAs for the Cartoon Network for tsunami relief...just something to think about as you're channel surfing, as they should be in rotation now! :)

CONFIRMED!!

"USA Today - front page of Life section:

Aiken dons 'Scrubs'
Americal Idol runner-up Clay Aiken will guest on a part-live audience taping of NBC comedy SCRUBS, usually a single-camera, closed-set show. The episode (Feb 15, 9pm ET) will poke fun at traditional sitcoms by portraying them as an unrealistic fantasy world with a laugh track."

:lovestruc Excellent excellent excellent...a belated Valentine from Clay!! :p

Is the new AI "sucking" up to Clay, or what?!? :rotfl2: Every show so far, they've made some sort of reference to Clay! Last night, a kid was asking Ryan for his autograph. When Ryan gave it back to the kid, the kid said "Ryan Secrest, I thought you were Clay Aiken"! (planned, I'm sure!)

Guess the AI folks FINALLY realised that Clay is the big *money maker* of all of them! :sunny:

I would be really suprised if Clay appeared on any of the shows. I'm pretty sure he said his contract with them was up and he is trying to distance himself from the show.

More info on his SCRUBS appearance. He's playing a part, not being "himself".

Entertainment News

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Small-Screen 'Idol'
Clay Aiken will guest-star on ''Scrubs.'' ''American Idol'' runner-up to appear on episode that makes fun of sitcoms by Michael Slezak

Apparently, Will & Grace isn't the only NBC sitcom relying on singing sensations to boost its ratings. American Idol's Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken will play a cafeteria worker named Kenny in the Feb. 15 episode of Scrubs, which is titled ''My Life in Four Cameras,'' and will reportedly ridicule such standard sitcom conventions as the laugh track, an NBC spokesperson confirmed.

While Scrubs is typically filmed on a closed set, Aiken's episode will be taped in part before a live audience. No word on whether the carrot-topped crooner will break into song during his Scrubs stint.

Thanks for the news! I will DEFINITELY be watching Scrubs that night! That blonde haired guy that auditioned definitely sounded quite a bit like Clay. Hope that he can keep it up. Time for another male winner!

FYI, Clay's book, week #11, was not on the NYTmes non-fiction list. They only publish to #35.

Congrat's to Clay for his great book sales!

I have not been watching AI, but my friend has told me that every week the judges make some mention of Clay. Have they mentioned any of the other winners? It is just so strange that this year they keep mentioning him and last year the judges responses to him was so lukewarm when he appeared.

I have 2/15 circled on my calendar. Thank heavens it is not against Amazing Race as this coming week is the last episode of AR. Otherwise, I would have to tape Scrubs as I am addicted to AR.

Yes, they do talk abt Clay quite a bit. Not a lot at a time, just a few words here & there. (hope that makes sense!) There was one "skit" with a little boy asking Ryan for his autograph. When Ryan gave it back, the boy said "Ryan Secrest, I though you were Clay Aiken.

JMHO, but I think the producers are finally realizing that Clay is the most financially successful of all the "idols" and are trying to capitalize. Like I said before, I doubt Clay will appear on AI this year. He's trying to break away and I believe his contract with them is up. (So they can't "force" him back.)

We'll see.....

Not sure if this has been mentioned or not but in the Limited Too Catazine there was an ad for Disney Mania 3 CD and it showed Clay as being one of the artists.

I agree with you, Kim. I think he's made it pretty clear that he really doesn't want to be "American Idol's" Clay Aiken anymore. And I think he's also made it pretty clear that he can get along just fine without them. ;)

And yep - Clay is singing Proud of Your Boy on the Disney Mania cd, which is great for anyone who wasn't able to download it!!

The rumor mill is a-running again, this time with news that Clay will be on Kimmel on Monday night. From what I can tell, this one is actually true. I checked several non-Clay sites for talk show schedules, and he is on there for 12:05. And Kimmel should be pretty funny, if his last visit is any indication. Although I hope they don't let that creepy woman talk about his shoes and nose again. *cringe* And don't forget Scrubs on Tuesday!!

*sigh*

I'm so glad he decided to show up on Valentine's Day.

;)

Thanks for the Clay update. I haven't been visiting the clayboards lately so didn't catch that. Is he singing or just talking? Will set the VCR for the Kimmel show.

Nancy

I'm not 100% positive, but I think it's an interview, not a performance. Los Lonely Boys are also scheduled to appear, so I would bet they're the only musical guest.

Which raises a wonderment for me....

...since he's been on a break from touring and may or may not be in the studio right now (let's go with not, just for conversation sake), do you think he still sings a lot? Like, maybe with the radio while he's doing the dinner dishes? Or at the top of his lungs on the freeway? Or - brace yourselves ladies - in the shower?? :faint:

Just wondering...;)
